Ambassador - For 2018, if we hit 100 SPG Nights, do we get Ambasaador for 2019?

hi - I have searched through many threads regarding this but can’t find an answer. Sorry if this is a repeated question.

Seeing that the “merger” took place mid year, If someone hits 100 SPG Nights in 2018 (with no $20k spend), do they qualify for Ambassador for 2019?

After having ambassador service for the past several years, I missed it by 10 nights last year. I should easily hit 100 this year.

Yes you do. But the stays have to be done at Starwood Legacy hotels.

Skeptical

I am moving more stays away from the new program. Based on current IT, I have no faith in legacy 100 nights. I hope to be proven wrong. Waiting for LTPP as well.

Yes, however you should be aware that you might be disappointed in Ambassador service is that it apparently, at least temporarily, isn't nearly as good as it once was, before the merger. So I don't think it's wise to go out of your way or pay more to get those 100+ SPG only nights this year.

My ambassador is out of the office, so I e-mailed the general ambassador line and they told me that I need 100 SPG nights and that the 5 Amex nights do not count. I thought I remembered a Lurker saying just the opposite here, that the 5 Amex nights count so we need 95 nights. Who is right?

Is your spend with 95 actual nights under 20K?

Obviously nobody knows - it's only the middle road where Ambassadors will lose their usefulness though. One could have even less faith in Marriott though and say that if the IT systems keep malfunctioning and hotels keep refusing core programme benefits then having an Ambassador is even more useful than it was in the past. Or everything is fixed with the launch of the new programme branding sometime in Q2 and the Ambassadors are empowered again. I suspect having an Ambassador in 2019 is going to be very useful, one way or another.

And ... if Ambassador becomes what we all agree is a distinct status level in 2019, then at least some hotels will prioritize treatment of those at that level and make it more valuable than it is today. From the Bonvoy leak ... which seems to have gone quiet, there are hints that this will be the case.

Hi escape4,

Credit card Elite qualifying nights do count towards the 100 nights needed for Ambassador status under legacy SPG criteria.

Thanks, that's what I thought otherwise the 5 Amex nights would seem to serve no purpose.

Correct. Which is why I need those 5 credit card nights to push me over 100 SPG nights.

My ambassador is now back in the office, and she stated the same thing as the other ambassador who answered me during her absence: the 5 Amex nights do NOT count towards the 100 nights. The one new piece of information I received today from her is that the 5 nights count for Silver, Gold and Plat, but do not count for AMB100. That makes no sense to me, but this is what she said.

Not only I find it disturbing to be informed of this on December 28, but also that now I have two different ambassadors directly contradicting the Lurkers.

Bottom line if someone can confirm that I am renewing Plat+AMB for 2019 then it's a non-issue, but if not then I will have a serious beef with this.

In addition my account has been showing online in the last several months "congrats, well done. you've reached our highest level of benefits. enjoy our highest level of benefits until January 2020". This led me to believe that I did not have to worry about 2019 qualification. I hope this was not misleading.

I do not think that is right. The 15 nights from the cards counts as does spend nights, so unclear why this would be in any way different.

The 15 nights are from the Marriott credit card. I am not sure if there is different treatment or not for the Marriott Visa than the SPG Amex. But to reach AMB we need 100 SPG nights, and the Amex card was 5 nights.

Now my ambassador is telling me that the 5 Amex nights not counting for the 100 is a new rule they found out just 2 weeks ago so it might be that the Lurkers have not been informed?

What a mess.
