You would not earn points on the Cash portion of a Cash & Points stay however you'd earn points for any other qualifying spend in the T&Cs. You do earn Elite Qualifying Nights (EQNs) for the stay.

Cash+Points Question
 

I was recently planning a Cash+Points Stay. Before I reserved I checked everywhere I could think of (Bonvoy T&Cs, search on this Forum etc) to find out how my points (75% bonus as Titanium) would be allocated for the cash portion. I couldn't find the info anywhere so assumed I'd get my points as usual for the cash part. Now I see that I have 0 points for my stay. Just so I don't waste a phone call to Marriott I'm hoping someone might direct me to a place where Cash&Points details are spelled out. Am I missing something?

Members will not earn Points or Miles on the cash portion of Cash + Points Awards. This information can be found under sections "2.1.c. Non-Qualifying Charges" and "3.3.f. Cash + Points Awards" in the Marriott Bonvoy Terms and Conditions: https://www.marriott.com/loyalty/terms/default.mi

"Use Cash + Points" is different than "Cash + Points Award". "Use Cash + Points" desiginates whole days of the stay as either paid with cash or paid with points. "Cash+ Points Award" is every day of the stay is paid with a combination of points and cash. Those stays definitely don't earn points as already confirmed by the lurkers. I believe that is what clause 3.3.f of the terms and condtions applies to "Cash + Points" a.k.a. "Redemption with Cash Upgrade". For "Use Cash + Points" a workaroud is to book separate reservations for the cash day(s) vs. the points days. Then you would still earn points on the cash days. Not sure if that is necessary and cash days of a "Use Cash +Points" reservation may earn points anyway. I couldn't find "Use Cash + Points" in the T&C's. YMMV...

Yeah, unfortunately you get nothing. When you do Cash+Points, consider it as you are buying the points needed to do a points stay

There's no obvious logic. Some hotel chains award points for the cash portion - Hyatt and Hilton come to mind - and others treat the cash portion as "buying points" (i.e. IHG). Marriott has chosen not to award points.

Because they can. LOL IHG treats the cash portion as a points purchase. If you cancel the reservation, IHG refunds it as all points. Marriott's process is different, but the logic is probably the same. The cash is considered a form of a points purchase and not eligible to earn points. YMMV....

Pay with points and cash
 

I haven't found another thread on this, apologies if I missed one.

In the past I have used the option to pay with "points and cash" quite often, but have noticed recently that this option doesn't seem to exist much any more. It was quite handy in being able to balance points retention or use - I'd often use points for a couple of nights and pay cash for a couple of nights.

Does anyone know why this has all but disappeared now?
