Large pending charge at checkin
 
So I booked 5 nights at a resort using points with $200/night upgrade fee. When I checked in, I see pending credit card charge for $700+/night for total of $3500+. Is this normal for Marriott resorts?

Sounds like they ran an authorization based on a paid rate by mistake. Wouldn't be surprised if this is another Marriott IT fail. You may want to confirm the hotel sees this as an award reservation.

Didn’t know that was a thing. That would make sense. I’ll make sure this is cleared up when I settle the final invocie. Thank you!

It's within the range of normal for some type of room rate and/or percentage of regular paid room rate (for the room assigned) to be used for "the hold" to be calculated and multiplied by the number of days booked. But it's far from common for Marriott resorts holding such a large amount when doing an award stay. The most common seems to be a fixed amount multiplied by the number of days booked for the stay, an amount well less than the nightly room rate.
