Elite night/3k spend on OLD Marriott VISA card

I was keeping the old Chase Visa to get elite nights to qualify for LTP. I typically get 2 nights a month but this doesn't appear to be working post merger.

I guess this feature goes away next year because of the maximum nights allowed by credit card is 15 per year.

I would wait until the end of next week before jumping to that conclusion. It usually doesn't post until around the 10th of the month or so no matter when your closing date is. It is based on monthly calendar spend, not monthly billing cycle spend.

That's not how I interpreted it but maybe I need to look closer.

It's still there. I'm likely going to be 4 nights short of platinum and was planning to do a mattress run but remembered just yesterday of this benefit. I "sock-drawered" this card and wanted to verify that the requirement so I sent a secure message to chase last night and received the following response:

Hello XXXX,

I'm pleased to address your inquiry about the benefits on
your Marriott Rewards® Credit Card account.

XXXXX, let me share that you can earn one Night Credit
towards Elite status for every $3,000 spend. No purchases
were made in the year 2018 so far.

your account, overdraft advances, interest, unauthorized
or fraudulent charges, or fees of any kind, including an

If you have any questions about the Elite Night Credits
you've earned or Elite Status, please sign in to your

Thanks for the verification. I have only seen where the business card extra days were going away with spend but not the personal card. This is actually the only reason I haven't upgraded or cancelled my personal card.

Chase will have to give notice before taking this benefit away.

It's the only reason to keep the legacy Chase MR card IMO. I have a very high limit on that card, which I'm thinking of shifting elsewhere, as there is otherwise no reason to put spend on the card.

My CC statement closes on the 8th, and I still have not received my credit for August. When I contacted Chase they said "Thank you for your patience. Please allow 6-8 weeks for the elite night credits."

How confident are we that this benefit will continue into next year?

This is exactly the reason for me to keep this card. I have got a few Chase emails enticing me with 20K points to upgrade. With this card next year I can reach PP with 45 BIB nights + 15N + 5 Elite gift nights + 10N (30k Spending). Just hope Chase won't discontinue this benefit.

There is so much talk about this benefit going away, they should really address it. Agreed, they would have to send us a letter with changes in conditions so I must assume this is still operational. Haven't spent much on the Marriott Visa card recently and I am thinking about dropping it in lieu of the new Amex card ... now that I am LTP I am no longer really in need for extra Elite night credit :)

GrandOldTurkey Sep 8, 18 9:21 am

My Chase credit card nights for last month (closing date of the first) just posted.

^

I wish they would show how far away you are from the next $3k.

I interpret the maximum 15 credits to address folks who have two active cards, so have been receiving a 30 credits per year; the 3K per elite night seems a separate issue.

I think people should assume the benefit remains the same until we hear differently. You can't expect Marriott or Chase to make announcements for everything that isn't changing, regardless of how many people stir up fear on a travel forum. Even if this rumor is more prevalent than most, I wouldn't want to set the precedent of confirming "nothing changes" if I were running the company.
