Legacy to New Travel Package Conversion (effective August 2018)
A Marriott supervisor can currently convert your legacy travel package into the new category mapping. If you hold a Category 6, 8, or Tier 1-3 legacy certificate, it's ideal to downgrade your certificate before converting so that points don't potentially get lost in the process.
When converting your legacy certificate to a new certificate your prior certificate is cancelled and your new certificate will (in most cases) have an expiration date that is 12 months from the date of issuance (today).
The codes for the New Category partial packages are:
5-night packages
NCx = new certificate category
QPxx = post-merger converted partial package
OCx = old certificate category
QLxx = post-merger converted partial package (only QL known so far is QL87 for NC7)
xx0T = initial package;
Pxx0 = partial package;

IMPORTANT! Possible Points Advance Implications of March 5 category changes: There’s a (potential) issue with the category changes and Points Advance reservations. Marriott included the following information when they emailed some of us about the upcoming changes: “Points Advance — Members who wish to book a points advance redemption under the current Marriott Rewards and SPG award chart are encouraged to order redemption certificates before March 5 to lock in the rate. On March 5, redemption bookings are subject to the new unified program award chart.” We’ve reached out to Marriott to confirm the practical implications of this verbiage, as it sounds like Points Advance reservations will revert to the new pricing if they don’t have certificates attached prior to March 5. To be on the safe side, if your hotel is increasing in category be sure your TP certificate is attached to the reservation before March 5.
Concerning use of TP for peak or off-peak, see post 2179:

Last July, I purchased two OC1-5 travel packages. I have an upcoming trip that I wanted to use the certificates to book two rooms at an NC5 hotel.
1) Verified that I had an extra 120,000 MR points in my account (2x60,000 to upgrade from NC4 to NC5)
2) Call the UK Marriott # in the wiki (+44 20 7012 7312). In total, the call took about 25 minutes.
3) Explain that I have a booking I wanted to make, and I wanted to Cancel my two 830T certificates and convert them to two QP91 certificates. I did need to be clear with the rep that I was going to be using additional points from my account to upgrade the certificate.
Canceling two 830T (OC1-5) added 90,000 points (2x45000) to my account
Ordering two QP91 (NC5) subtracted 210,000 points (2x105K) from my account
4) The rep said that their "specialist" wasn't in the office, but she would leave detailed notes and have him do it the next day
5) True to form, the next day (today), I got an emails saying that my old certificates were canceled and new certificates were ordered.
Email clearly states that 830T certs were canceled
Second email clearly states that QP91 certs were ordered and 210K points were redeemed
Email (and account) state that the expiration is one year from today
As typical, App is up-to-date, website doesn't show the updated information yet.

The new award redemption chart will not impact Travel Packages. After these changes go into effect, you'll be able to book a hotel within the category assigned to your Travel Package, regardless of whether the dates at the hotel are in off-peak, standard or peak rates.

After take a look, and it not has been attached. I have to call 3 cs agents and they all don’t know how to do that. The 4th I have to tell home what he should do, convert the OC to the NC before attacking, and it work out well. Now my reservation look like this and still don’t know if it right or not

Is there a way to check the website and see if a cert is attached to your reservation? I've been told my cert is attached but have never seen a way to check on the website.

I have a new category 4-7 days cert. travel packages which I converted last year from an OC 5. It will expire in 2 months is any way to extend it for another year either by calling in or attach it to a booking and cancelling?
If neither would be successful will Marriott refund 45000 points automatically after expiration date?

i don’t think what you want to do is going to happen because they can’t attach a “lower level” certificate to an increased category (points advance or otherwise) reservation.
I havent seen any reports of this happening (not to say it won’t happen). Please report back if you get it to work.

marriott appears to be honoring if you are booking with points since they can make an adjustment to your account. I guess point advance doesn’t include certificate advance which I can understand.

If i have reservation with old certificate, can i change the date beyond the cert expiration date? The hotel go up to higher level in new certificate scheme.

Ugh... what a headache. I don't suppose there are any data points of someone doing this? I mean... the hotel was a category 5 when I booked it. Do I have ANY alternatives at this point?

If you have a reservation with an old certificate attached, and change the date, the old certficate would be converted to a new certificate (with a new expiration date one year from the date you converted it) and the reservation would be repriced at the current rate. If the current rate is higher, you *may* be able to convert to a new certificate at the higher level by paying the difference in points, or you can use the new certificate on a reservation at the converted level. At least, that's my understanding.

*may* means getting a very generous rep to do it by paying the residual difference. This thread probably has 25% of the posts describing which call center to call to do the swap.

the only data point i've seen is if you get a very generous rep to order you a new upgraded certificate at the residual value where they cancel and refund your old certificate and charge you the difference for the upgraded certificate (based on old value).
other than this, i'm not sure if there have been reports of what you want to do (not that it won't happen).

Thanks so much for your words of encouragement. Since it went from a cat 5 (35k) to a cat 6 (50k). Does this mean that I *may* get a generous rep that would allow me to cancel the NC5, and pay 90k (15k * 6) for an NC6? It seems a shame that I booked the hotel in March before the increase and followed their rules but getting penalized. (>_<)

I have a few of the TP 7 day certs, some are expiring soon. Can I book a room for my brother with one of these?...I can't find anything that says whether they are transferrable or not...If not, do you think adding him to a reservation in my name and letting him check in first might work?...I hate to waste a 7 night cert or trade it in for paltry points...so does anyone know?
