Legacy to New Travel Package Conversion (effective August 2018)
A Marriott supervisor can currently convert your legacy travel package into the new category mapping. If you hold a Category 6, 8, or Tier 1-3 legacy certificate, it's ideal to downgrade your certificate before converting so that points don't potentially get lost in the process.
When converting your legacy certificate to a new certificate your prior certificate is cancelled and your new certificate will (in most cases) have an expiration date that is 12 months from the date of issuance (today).
The codes for the New Category partial packages are:
5-night packages
NCx = new certificate category
QPxx = post-merger converted partial package
OCx = old certificate category
QLxx = post-merger converted partial package (only QL known so far is QL87 for NC7)
xx0T = initial package;
Pxx0 = partial package;

IMPORTANT! Possible Points Advance Implications of March 5 category changes: There’s a (potential) issue with the category changes and Points Advance reservations. Marriott included the following information when they emailed some of us about the upcoming changes: “Points Advance — Members who wish to book a points advance redemption under the current Marriott Rewards and SPG award chart are encouraged to order redemption certificates before March 5 to lock in the rate. On March 5, redemption bookings are subject to the new unified program award chart.” We’ve reached out to Marriott to confirm the practical implications of this verbiage, as it sounds like Points Advance reservations will revert to the new pricing if they don’t have certificates attached prior to March 5. To be on the safe side, if your hotel is increasing in category be sure your TP certificate is attached to the reservation before March 5.

I've read/followed the majority of this thread and now that I have a plan for how to use the travel certificates I made it happen
Last July, I purchased two OC1-5 travel packages. I have an upcoming trip that I wanted to use the certificates to book two rooms at an NC5 hotel.
1) Verified that I had an extra 120,000 MR points in my account (2x60,000 to upgrade from NC4 to NC5)
2) Call the UK Marriott # in the wiki (+44 20 7012 7312). In total, the call took about 25 minutes.
3) Explain that I have a booking I wanted to make, and I wanted to Cancel my two 830T certificates and convert them to two QP91 certificates. I did need to be clear with the rep that I was going to be using additional points from my account to upgrade the certificate.
Canceling two 830T (OC1-5) added 90,000 points (2x45000) to my account
Ordering two QP91 (NC5) subtracted 210,000 points (2x105K) from my account
4) The rep said that their "specialist" wasn't in the office, but she would leave detailed notes and have him do it the next day
5) True to form, the next day (today), I got an emails saying that my old certificates were canceled and new certificates were ordered.
Email clearly states that 830T certs were canceled
Second email clearly states that QP91 certs were ordered and 210K points were redeemed
Email (and account) state that the expiration is one year from today
As typical, App is up-to-date, website doesn't show the updated information yet.

The new award redemption chart will not impact Travel Packages. After these changes go into effect, you'll be able to book a hotel within the category assigned to your Travel Package, regardless of whether the dates at the hotel are in off-peak, standard or peak rates.

I have a 7 nights certificate expiring this week.
What happens if I let the certificate expires? Will I receive 45000 Marriott points without doing nothing?
Maybe it's better phone to the customer care and ask them to cancel the certificate in order to receive 45000 Marriott points?
Any suggestions?

I just successfully converted a OC8 to a NC6. Thanks to this thread, it was quick and painless. I've been lurking for a few months now, and wanted to both contribute the DP and also thank Happy, margarita girl, jameswes and everyone else who collectively spent countless hours contributing to this thread.
DP details:
- I called the number in the Wiki on a weekday (~3pm in London) hoping I'd get someone a bit more experienced.
- Call 1 was a HUCA.
- Call 2 was successful. I stated that I'd like to convert to a NC6, and that I knew it'd cost me an additional 30k points. The agent looked up my OC8 and let me know that he saw the NC5 available and that I'd get 30k points refunded. I mentioned that I didn't really want a NC5 because the hotel I was hoping to use the certificate at was NC6. I asked if there was any possibility of converting to a NC6. He looked again and mentioned that he did see the NC6 at a cost of 165k points (which made me feel confident that we were on the right path, as I'd recalled the various 105k/135k/165k partial values). After a brief hold, he returned and then confirmed that I had the necessary 30k points in my balance. The call lasted 12 minutes total.
- My Marriott app was immediately up to date showing the new 'Partial Package - 7 nights category 6' with an expiration date of 1 year from today, and my points balance is now 30k points lighter.
- Within 15 minutes, I received both the cancelled award and new award email confirmations.
Thanks again - there is little chance that I would've been able to accomplish this without the information in this thread.

I successfully converted my old Cat 8 to Cat 5 certificate last November, but I couldn't really able to figure when I can use it. I tried to use search feature on extend certification expiration date, but it lead to nowhere.
Am I able to extend another year on my Cat 5 certificate's Nov 2019 expiration date if I call sometime this Fall or I could make booking for Summer 2020 sometime before expiration date?

Can you share a 7 night stay certificate ?
A friend of mine has a 7 night certificate which he wants to use at a hotel where he intends to stay only for 5 nights.
Can his brother or parents stay for the remainder of the 2 nights after he checks out?
He asked me thinking I would know and I have never faced this before and so thought of asking the Experts here as to what is their experience with such a scenario? Has anyone done something similar? Did you face any hiccups?
Worse case scenario, he will just stay the 5 nights and let the 2 nights go, but ideally he would like to gift it to his sibling or parents.

Does the room allow up to 3 people? If so, he can add his parents as guests on reservation. Typically a room allows two guests so adding his brother shouldn’t be an issue. On the day he leaves, just go and don’t check out. When his guests are ready to check out, just leave the keys in the room and go. I do that all the time as I don’t want to deal with the lines at front desk just to return the keys on the day I check out.

It might help to know some details such as the location (country) of then hotel as some hotels are required to see the passports of all registered guests.
If the room is turned over to the parents, OP should be aware that officially if one of them is locked out, for example, only the one who is registered in the room should be able to get a new key card from the front desk.
OP should also be aware that he/she is responsible for the behavior of other guests including any room charges and damages as well as noise etc. complaints.

Your friend can register himself as one guest, and one of his parents as the second guest. As someone had said, when your friend leaves, don't check out.

Just called Marriott US and Marriott UK, trying to attach new 7-night cat 5 certificate to the 5 night stay. Was told by both agents that IT MUST BE 7 NIGHTS. I know that in the past you were able to attach the certificate to fewer nights. Has that changed?
