Legacy to New Travel Package Conversion (effective August 2018)
A Marriott supervisor can currently convert your legacy travel package into the new category mapping. If you hold a Category 6, 8, or Tier 1-3 legacy certificate, it's ideal to downgrade your certificate before converting so that points don't potentially get lost in the process.

When converting your legacy certificate to a new certificate your prior certificate is cancelled and your new certificate will (in most cases) have an expiration date that is 12 months from the date of issuance (today).

The codes for the New Category partial packages are:
5-night packages
  • OC5=530T/P530 is now NC4 QP53
  • OC6=570T/P570 is now NC4 QP53
  • OC7=610T/P610 is now NC5 QP61 (refund value: 45K)
  • OC8=650T/P650 is now NC5 QP?? (Refund value: 75k)
  • OC9=690T/P690 is now NC6 QP69
7-night packages
  • NC4 QP83 = OC5 830T/P830 (refund value: 45K)
  • NC4 QP87 = OC6 870T/P870 (refund value: 75K)
  • NC5 QP91 = OC7 910T/P910 (refund value: 105K)
  • NC5 QP95 = OC8 950T/P950 (refund value: 135K)
  • NC6 QP99 = OC9 990T/P990 (refund value: 165K)
  • NC6 QP99 = OC Tier 1-3 L830 (refund value: 195K)
  • NC7 QL87 = OC Tier 4-5 L870 (refund value: 315K)
Other 7-night packages
  • NC5 QP88 = OC7 P880 (refund value: 135K)
  • NC5 QP92 = OC8 P920 (refund value: 165K)
legend:
NCx = new certificate category
QPxx = post-merger converted partial package
OCx = old certificate category
QLxx = post-merger converted partial package (only QL known so far is QL87 for NC7)
xx0T = initial package;
Pxx0 = partial package;

For best practices on converting OC to NC, I’ve copied post # 1181 here. Thank you jameswes!

(Also, never use the word UPGRADE. You must say you want to CONVERT your certs.)

New data point for the new year.

I've read/followed the majority of this thread and now that I have a plan for how to use the travel certificates I made it happen

Last July, I purchased two OC1-5 travel packages. I have an upcoming trip that I wanted to use the certificates to book two rooms at an NC5 hotel.

1) Verified that I had an extra 120,000 MR points in my account (2x60,000 to upgrade from NC4 to NC5)
2) Call the UK Marriott # in the wiki (+44 20 7012 7312). In total, the call took about 25 minutes.
3) Explain that I have a booking I wanted to make, and I wanted to Cancel my two 830T certificates and convert them to two QP91 certificates. I did need to be clear with the rep that I was going to be using additional points from my account to upgrade the certificate.
Canceling two 830T (OC1-5) added 90,000 points (2x45000) to my account
Ordering two QP91 (NC5) subtracted 210,000 points (2x105K) from my account
4) The rep said that their "specialist" wasn't in the office, but she would leave detailed notes and have him do it the next day
5) True to form, the next day (today), I got an emails saying that my old certificates were canceled and new certificates were ordered.
Email clearly states that 830T certs were canceled
Second email clearly states that QP91 certs were ordered and 210K points were redeemed
Email (and account) state that the expiration is one year from today
As typical, App is up-to-date, website doesn't show the updated information yet.
IMPORTANT! Possible Points Advance Implications of March 5 category changes: There’s a (potential) issue with the category changes and Points Advance reservations. Marriott included the following information when they emailed some of us about the upcoming changes: “Points Advance — Members who wish to book a points advance redemption under the current Marriott Rewards and SPG award chart are encouraged to order redemption certificates before March 5 to lock in the rate. On March 5, redemption bookings are subject to the new unified program award chart.” We’ve reached out to Marriott to confirm the practical implications of this verbiage, as it sounds like Points Advance reservations will revert to the new pricing if they don’t have certificates attached prior to March 5. To be on the safe side, if your hotel is increasing in category be sure your TP certificate is attached to the reservation before March 5.

Concerning use of TP for peak or off-peak, see post 2179:

anyone managed to apply/upgrade certs to new cat 7? Looking to apply to RC Tokyo cat 7. Used to be no problem with a Tier5 cert, but with the new changes not sure how would that work?

Look in the wiki at the top of the thread. There are NC codes for new 5 night packages. You should be able to use these codes to upgrade if you are able to find an agent willing to process the upgrade. I seem to recall some have done it. Some must have or we would not have the information in the wiki. Try the forum thread search function to find the posts or skim back some more.

I don't think anyone has a NC7 cert yet. Great unicorn is missing

It looks like LCs are now integrated.. When you search 7 nights , the points amount per night now show the same as other properties already integrated. E.g 25,000 a night instead of 21,427 per night

Either way I will call soon to try and use a 7N on an LC hotel. Will update then

Update: was able to phone in and book a LC hotel using a NC4 cert. Everything is good and received the confirmation email too. Booking also shows e-cert is attached.

There are codes but you need to be a MVCI owner to get these. If you are not, you are only eligible for the 7 night certs.

I called US reps 5 times and got no lucks. Even when I gave out the codes and whatnot, all I got was they can't convert it into anything other than the new cat 4 cert when I said cancel my old OC5 830T and convert it to QP91.

I read some of the comments above and tried to call the UK reps. It was a European woman (can't tell where the accent is from) answered my phone. She sounded a bit nervous and not completely sure what I wanted, but at least she put me on hold and called the manager. After three different holds and kept me waiting for over 40 mins, she finally canceled my old cert and added a new one into my account. I received the notification emails instantly. I did not see any points taken away from my account after that so I asked and then she put me on hold again... to confirm that.

In the end, she told me yes 60k should have been taking away from my account, but she will try to talk to the highest level of manager and see if she can waive it for me because she put me on hold for long and will call me on next Tuesday to confirm that... I mean, yes the 45 mins hold is long BUT I WILL ONLY START CALLING UK reps from now on! One time is all it takes to get it done!
Just want to add a few updates,

I called UK reps another few times in the past few days for redeeming the newly converted certificate for FIVE nights and so far it's not going so well. At first, they completely ignored what I said and redeem points plus my one night certificate to redeem the 5 nights... which doesn't make sense at all because you get the one night free when you book the four nights.

Called again this morning to correct this, I got my points and one night certificate back but the reps said they are having system issue attaching the 7 night cert to it. We will see how it goes.
At this point, the previous reps did not call me back to inform me if i will get the 60k points... I am guessing it's a no or she forgot.

I guess it's really about luck. but converting certificate seems to be much easier calling UK reps.

Why wouldn't you just redeem for 7 nights and get the credit for 7 nights instead of 5 (assuming there is availability for 7 nights)? This will be especially useful if you need early check in or late check out.

Sorry if this has been mentioned, but this thread is long...

I have hopefully a simple request. I want to attach my OC5 7-night certificate to a booking I've already made (hotel is NC4).

How should my conversation with the rep go, in order to minimize any confusion/trouble (this is a cert in my wife's account, and she'll be calling...):
  • Confirm with rep that they see a P830 certificate in the account.
  • Ask to convert that to a QP83 certificate
  • Attach the new QP83 certificate to booking reference XXXXXX

Would what I have written above be sufficient to perform this task?

Meaning Tier5 certs have been redundant since Sept?

Book it as a points advance reservation and then call them to attach the certificate

Agree this seems to be the best way to do it now they've loaded on most ex-SPG properties.

The NC7 partial TP does not exist. But the NC7 is still being used and booked.

I am married to a unicorn and I have a NC7 cert. To be clear, both those statements are true - the code I can see on my confirmation for a 7-night NC7 Partial Package is QL87 ('cost' 315,000). Apologies, while I have been reading most of the posts I get a bit lost on the "refund value" (can I cancel the cert and get back 315,000 points?) hence I have put 'cost', which is the number of points indicated on the partial package confirmation (i.e. this was originally a TP I purchased pre-August 18th).

My experience has been very similar to other posts in that it is luck of the draw. The cert took me the best part of 2-3 hours on the telephone to secure with a number of HUCAs and low expectations from the start. As far as I can tell if you want to get a NC7 cert conversion and/or upgrade you need pretty much all of the following: 1) patience; and 2) an agent who has at least a basic understanding about TPs (and then the willingness to be shown/explained the bits they don't know, which may involve some of 1)); and eventually 3) a knowledgeable and understanding and willing supervisor; and even then, 4) luck.

I wish you all the best (of luck) and thank you for all the tips/DPs, which no doubt helped get my result.

Unless I am lost on the basics, I definitely have a NC7 Partial TP as that is what is written on the confirmation I received - see my other post for the code and points value.
