Legacy to New Travel Package Conversion (effective August 2018)
A Marriott supervisor can currently convert your legacy travel package into the new category mapping. If you hold a Category 6, 8, or Tier 1-3 legacy certificate, it's ideal to downgrade your certificate before converting so that points don't potentially get lost in the process.

When converting your legacy certificate to a new certificate your prior certificate is cancelled and your new certificate will (in most cases) have an expiration date that is 12 months from the date of issuance (today).

The codes for the New Category partial packages are:
5-night packages
  • OC5=530T/P530 is now NC4 QP53
  • OC6=570T/P570 is now NC4 QP53
  • OC7=610T/P610 is now NC5 QP61 (refund value: 45K)
  • OC8=650T/P650 is now NC5 QP?? (Refund value: 75k)
  • OC9=690T/P690 is now NC6 QP69
7-night packages
  • NC4 QP83 = OC5 830T/P830 (refund value: 45K)
  • NC4 QP87 = OC6 870T/P870 (refund value: 75K)
  • NC5 QP91 = OC7 910T/P910 (refund value: 105K)
  • NC5 QP95 = OC8 950T/P950 (refund value: 135K)
  • NC6 QP99 = OC9 990T/P990 (refund value: 165K)
  • NC6 QP99 = OC Tier 1-3 L830 (refund value: 195K)
  • NC7 QL87 = OC Tier 4-5 L870 (refund value: 315K)
Other 7-night packages
  • NC5 QP88 = OC7 P880 (refund value: 135K)
  • NC5 QP92 = OC8 P920 (refund value: 165K)
legend:
NCx = new certificate category
QPxx = post-merger converted partial package
OCx = old certificate category
QLxx = post-merger converted partial package (only QL known so far is QL87 for NC7)
xx0T = initial package;
Pxx0 = partial package;

For best practices on converting OC to NC, I’ve copied post # 1181 here. Thank you jameswes!

(Also, never use the word UPGRADE. You must say you want to CONVERT your certs.)

New data point for the new year.

I've read/followed the majority of this thread and now that I have a plan for how to use the travel certificates I made it happen

Last July, I purchased two OC1-5 travel packages. I have an upcoming trip that I wanted to use the certificates to book two rooms at an NC5 hotel.

1) Verified that I had an extra 120,000 MR points in my account (2x60,000 to upgrade from NC4 to NC5)
2) Call the UK Marriott # in the wiki (+44 20 7012 7312). In total, the call took about 25 minutes.
3) Explain that I have a booking I wanted to make, and I wanted to Cancel my two 830T certificates and convert them to two QP91 certificates. I did need to be clear with the rep that I was going to be using additional points from my account to upgrade the certificate.
Canceling two 830T (OC1-5) added 90,000 points (2x45000) to my account
Ordering two QP91 (NC5) subtracted 210,000 points (2x105K) from my account
4) The rep said that their "specialist" wasn't in the office, but she would leave detailed notes and have him do it the next day
5) True to form, the next day (today), I got an emails saying that my old certificates were canceled and new certificates were ordered.
Email clearly states that 830T certs were canceled
Second email clearly states that QP91 certs were ordered and 210K points were redeemed
Email (and account) state that the expiration is one year from today
As typical, App is up-to-date, website doesn't show the updated information yet.
IMPORTANT! Possible Points Advance Implications of March 5 category changes: There’s a (potential) issue with the category changes and Points Advance reservations. Marriott included the following information when they emailed some of us about the upcoming changes: “Points Advance — Members who wish to book a points advance redemption under the current Marriott Rewards and SPG award chart are encouraged to order redemption certificates before March 5 to lock in the rate. On March 5, redemption bookings are subject to the new unified program award chart.” We’ve reached out to Marriott to confirm the practical implications of this verbiage, as it sounds like Points Advance reservations will revert to the new pricing if they don’t have certificates attached prior to March 5. To be on the safe side, if your hotel is increasing in category be sure your TP certificate is attached to the reservation before March 5.

Concerning use of TP for peak or off-peak, see post 2179:

Although my recent reservations with attached travel certificates reflected a points value equal to it's liquidation value, I should remember to add a qualifier, like "should," "normally," or "might," when discussing any aspect of Marriott's Loyalty program. If attached, the rep should be able to confirm that the code for it is QP91.

Any luck using an OC6 certificate + 30k points to book a NC5 hotel (SPG, in case it matters)?

I just spent an hour trying to do so, at the end of which they said that OC6 certificates can only be converted to NC1-4 certificates + 30k points, and that upgrades are absolutely not allowed. Is this truly the case, or should I call back and try again?

BTW, this was for a Le Meridien hotel, which per the wiki should have already been converted to the Marriott system, but per the Marriott rep won't be until Tuesday 12/11/2018.

The RULE is NO UPGRADE. However it is not hard-coded. So you decide how much efforts you want to put in this.

Upgrade has to be done at the Cert level. HUCA and use UK number which is posted again just yesterday!
Read back you can find a post just recently on how many call centers the poster tried and eventually found one to handle the upgrade.

You will get much more insight to read back the recent posts in the past several weeks - there are many people ahead of you that have gone thru the process and showed the right approaches to get things done. It does need some skills and the right approach, so it depends on whether you want to spend some time and effort to read back the past posts to learn how to go about it for high success rate.

The wiki is only per the information gathered at the time - it is NOT from Marriott. So it can only serve as a guide, not something set in stone.

As mentioned numerous time, you can tell when the brand / property is bookable with cert - when you make a booking on Marriott platform, if the site no longer directs you to the SPG platform to book, then this property is bookable on Marriott platform, therefore can be booked with certs. It is as simple as that. Pretty intuitive. No need to call to find out, or call and then find out it is not bookable yet.

Need codes to use for suites at Sheraton in Myrtle Beach, SC

I will be traveling to the Myrtle Beach Convention Center in February if anyone knows of codes that can be used for their suites, I have a code that is only good for a couple of their regular rooms but this will not work for me. Thanks in advance!

I mean quoting the QP code for the package you are wanting to upgrade to (they're listed in the wiki at the top of the page), rather than emphasising the 'upgrade' element, instead just say to the rep you are wanting to switch the package - see @Chris Han's post a few above mine - https://www.flyertalk.com/forum/30504491-post879.html

I would call Marriott to book instead of your SPG elite numbers simply because SPG reps do NOT know how to deal with this type of award because SPG never has such thing.
Totally agree this is key - also once the property is on the Marriott platform it should be available for points advance, so perhaps easiest just to make the booking yourself as points advance (that way you know the property and dates are all correct) then just phone and ask them to attach the TP to the existing booking??

I called again and found an agent who told me it wasn't attached and attached it for me. Thanks for the help! I now see "Your reward certificates will be sent to your hotel." and the points reflects the irregular amount. Good looking out!

I wanna thank everyone who helped me on converting the old cat 5 cert into the new 5 one!

I called US reps 5 times and got no lucks. Even when I gave out the codes and whatnot, all I got was they can't convert it into anything other than the new cat 4 cert when I said cancel my old OC5 830T and convert it to QP91.

I read some of the comments above and tried to call the UK reps. It was a European woman (can't tell where the accent is from) answered my phone. She sounded a bit nervous and not completely sure what I wanted, but at least she put me on hold and called the manager. After three different holds and kept me waiting for over 40 mins, she finally canceled my old cert and added a new one into my account. I received the notification emails instantly. I did not see any points taken away from my account after that so I asked and then she put me on hold again... to confirm that.

In the end, she told me yes 60k should have been taking away from my account, but she will try to talk to the highest level of manager and see if she can waive it for me because she put me on hold for long and will call me on next Tuesday to confirm that... I mean, yes the 45 mins hold is long BUT I WILL ONLY START CALLING UK reps from now on! One time is all it takes to get it done!

How do you actually apply one of the travel certificates?

For instance, I want to book a cat 6, 7-night stay at Ritz Carlton in which the certificate will work. Online I can't seem to figure out how to apply it, is the only option to call or can you email or something?

Calling is by far the fastest. You can do it via Contact Us but there's no guarantee at this point that they'll get back to you by the end of the year.

Has anyone been able to upgrade a 5 night cert? I've skimmed back a few pages, but didn't see anyone specifically talking about the 5 night certs.

any recent data points on adding other guests as primary guests? I'd like to use a 7-night cert for my parents but I do NOT want to travel with them. I don't want to put them as second guests since it'll be at an international property.
