Legacy to New Travel Package Conversion (effective August 2018)
A Marriott supervisor can currently convert your legacy travel package into the new category mapping. If you hold a Category 6, 8, or Tier 1-3 legacy certificate, it's ideal to downgrade your certificate before converting so that points don't potentially get lost in the process.
When converting your legacy certificate to a new certificate your prior certificate is cancelled and your new certificate will (in most cases) have an expiration date that is 12 months from the date of issuance (today).
The codes for the New Category partial packages are:
5-night packages
NCx = new certificate category
QPxx = post-merger converted partial package
OCx = old certificate category
QLxx = post-merger converted partial package (only QL known so far is QL87 for NC7)
xx0T = initial package;
Pxx0 = partial package;

(Also, never use the word UPGRADE. You must say you want to CONVERT your certs.)
IMPORTANT! Possible Points Advance Implications of March 5 category changes: There’s a (potential) issue with the category changes and Points Advance reservations. Marriott included the following information when they emailed some of us about the upcoming changes: “Points Advance — Members who wish to book a points advance redemption under the current Marriott Rewards and SPG award chart are encouraged to order redemption certificates before March 5 to lock in the rate. On March 5, redemption bookings are subject to the new unified program award chart.” We’ve reached out to Marriott to confirm the practical implications of this verbiage, as it sounds like Points Advance reservations will revert to the new pricing if they don’t have certificates attached prior to March 5. To be on the safe side, if your hotel is increasing in category be sure your TP certificate is attached to the reservation before March 5.
Concerning use of TP for peak or off-peak, see post 2179:

New data point for the new year.
I've read/followed the majority of this thread and now that I have a plan for how to use the travel certificates I made it happen
Last July, I purchased two OC1-5 travel packages. I have an upcoming trip that I wanted to use the certificates to book two rooms at an NC5 hotel.
1) Verified that I had an extra 120,000 MR points in my account (2x60,000 to upgrade from NC4 to NC5)
2) Call the UK Marriott # in the wiki (+44 20 7012 7312). In total, the call took about 25 minutes.
3) Explain that I have a booking I wanted to make, and I wanted to Cancel my two 830T certificates and convert them to two QP91 certificates. I did need to be clear with the rep that I was going to be using additional points from my account to upgrade the certificate.
Canceling two 830T (OC1-5) added 90,000 points (2x45000) to my account
Ordering two QP91 (NC5) subtracted 210,000 points (2x105K) from my account
4) The rep said that their "specialist" wasn't in the office, but she would leave detailed notes and have him do it the next day
5) True to form, the next day (today), I got an emails saying that my old certificates were canceled and new certificates were ordered.
Email clearly states that 830T certs were canceled
Second email clearly states that QP91 certs were ordered and 210K points were redeemed
Email (and account) state that the expiration is one year from today
As typical, App is up-to-date, website doesn't show the updated information yet.

Concerning use of TP for peak or off-peak, see post 2179:
The new award redemption chart will not impact Travel Packages. After these changes go into effect, you'll be able to book a hotel within the category assigned to your Travel Package, regardless of whether the dates at the hotel are in off-peak, standard or peak rates.

Likewise. I didn't get debited the 45k points, and the voucher was successfully added to a 6-night stay.

DP: I was just able to upgrade a 5n cat-5 to cat-6.
The new terms don't allow for this, but the system does. I called many times until I found an agent able to do it. It now shows on my account as a Partial cat-6 5n certificate valued 135k points. It was cat-5 45k points before.

Unless I am mistaken, the prohibition against category changes was only communicated through social media. IMO, things that are not mentioned in a company's terms and conditions, on its website or communicated directly to customers are open to negotiation.

Trying to redeem a week certificate and getting this error when looking up rates for a specific hotel:
"We’re sorry. This property is not taking redemption bookings at this time. You can either book a cash reservation or search for another property."
Has anyone else had this happen?
EDIT: It's for an Autograph Collection property, so I don't think anything in the Wiki will apply.

It doesn't matter if it's an AC or not. I'm leaving for an AC that I applied a week certificate to. But I first booked it as an award week, then called in to attach the certificate.

That message means there is no award space available for your dates. Award space is capacity-controlled. Even if there are regular cash rooms available at a property, that does not mean there are award spaces available.

Long time reader, first time on the boards. Thank you all for your insights and help...could not have been able to see the world the way I have the past few years without the tips on this site!
I have a NC5 cert and am wanting to use it for a 7 night stay at the Le Méridien Phuket over New Years. I have the stay reserved currently with points to hold a room. Any word on the status of being able to use these certs on SPG properties, specifically Le Méridien's?
Thanks!

If the timeline in the wiki is correct, LM should be added to Marriott platform at the end of Nov.

What is the best way to test this? I read somewhere in this chain to use the SPG mobile app and do a dummy booking and see if it routes you to the Marriott site or not, but I did not fully follow that logic. Could you step me through how to check if the LM or other property has been added to the platform or not?

Is anybody familiar with reward code '7PC5'? After 6 agents tonight and 1.5 hours on the phone, I finally got an agent that knew what a certificate was and seemed to know how to cancel legacy certs and reissue into new post-merger certs. The weird thing is, she cancelled the P910 7 Night Category 7 certificate and reissued a new certificate that reads "PARTIAL PACKAGE - 7 NIGHTS CATEGORY 5" but the reward code indicated in the email confirmation was '7PC5' and 'Points redeemed: 5,000'. Indeed, I see 100K more points in my account than before so I think they refunded 105K then used 5K to issue the certificate. Did I just hit the jackpot here or is my certificate useless and I'll have to call in to get this fixed?
Regardless of whether or not I hit the jackpot... assuming I had a normal certificate, how would I attach it to a stay? Is that a 'self-serve' function or do I have to call in to do that? I tried to search for availability for a Marriott property, then clicked on View Rates, then picked Redemption. It only gives me two options for payment:
(1) 150,000 points for 7 night(s)
(2) Points Advance: wait until you earn the points you need
I do not see where I am able to attach the certificate. Now, I have never used one in the past so may be it is just user error on my part but the Marriott agent said that this is the part of the booking process where I should be able to opt to apply the certificate. Was she right? If not, can you please point me in the right direction? Thanks in advance.

Just a data point. The agent that reissued my cert tonight also specified November 27th as the date SPG properties were gonna be bookable with the cert online.
