Legacy to New Travel Package Conversion (effective August 2018)
A Marriott supervisor can currently convert your legacy travel package into the new category mapping. If you hold a Category 6, 8, or Tier 1-3 legacy certificate, it's ideal to downgrade your certificate before converting so that points don't potentially get lost in the process.
When converting your legacy certificate to a new certificate your prior certificate is cancelled and your new certificate will (in most cases) have an expiration date that is 12 months from the date of issuance (today).
The codes for the New Category partial packages are:
5-night packages
NCx = new certificate category
QPxx = post-merger converted partial package
OCx = old certificate category
QLxx = post-merger converted partial package (only QL known so far is QL87 for NC7)
xx0T = initial package;
Pxx0 = partial package;

IMPORTANT! Possible Points Advance Implications of March 5 category changes: There’s a (potential) issue with the category changes and Points Advance reservations. Marriott included the following information when they emailed some of us about the upcoming changes: “Points Advance — Members who wish to book a points advance redemption under the current Marriott Rewards and SPG award chart are encouraged to order redemption certificates before March 5 to lock in the rate. On March 5, redemption bookings are subject to the new unified program award chart.” We’ve reached out to Marriott to confirm the practical implications of this verbiage, as it sounds like Points Advance reservations will revert to the new pricing if they don’t have certificates attached prior to March 5. To be on the safe side, if your hotel is increasing in category be sure your TP certificate is attached to the reservation before March 5.
Concerning use of TP for peak or off-peak, see post 2179:

Last July, I purchased two OC1-5 travel packages. I have an upcoming trip that I wanted to use the certificates to book two rooms at an NC5 hotel.
1) Verified that I had an extra 120,000 MR points in my account (2x60,000 to upgrade from NC4 to NC5)
2) Call the UK Marriott # in the wiki (+44 20 7012 7312). In total, the call took about 25 minutes.
3) Explain that I have a booking I wanted to make, and I wanted to Cancel my two 830T certificates and convert them to two QP91 certificates. I did need to be clear with the rep that I was going to be using additional points from my account to upgrade the certificate.

Ordering two QP91 (NC5) subtracted 210,000 points (2x105K) from my account
4) The rep said that their "specialist" wasn't in the office, but she would leave detailed notes and have him do it the next day
5) True to form, the next day (today), I got an emails saying that my old certificates were canceled and new certificates were ordered.
Email clearly states that 830T certs were canceled
Second email clearly states that QP91 certs were ordered and 210K points were redeemed
Email (and account) state that the expiration is one year from today
As typical, App is up-to-date, website doesn't show the updated information yet.

The new award redemption chart will not impact Travel Packages. After these changes go into effect, you'll be able to book a hotel within the category assigned to your Travel Package, regardless of whether the dates at the hotel are in off-peak, standard or peak rates.

A bit off topic, I'm guessing nothing has to be exchanged for the single night certificates when booking Sheraton or legacy SPG? Seems to be bookable online.

Hi folks. Do you guys have success to book SPG property using the new Cat 1-4 7 nights certificate? I called SPG reservation line, they can see the certificate in my account but they can't book it citing the system integration issues. They ask me to call back later but can't tell me when. Any people succeed? Any suggestions? Thanks.

Confirmed I was able to book a Sheraton property and attach a 7 night certificate. No issues at all.

Converted 2x certs from the old category to new mapping. Attached one cert to a reservation. Total savings ~$2,000. Took roughly 30min, I was quite surprised how smooth it was.

Basic question, as I haven't had much time to devote to keeping up with all the merger fallout.
I had a reservation using old-style 7 night cert. (Cat1-5). I had to cancel due to changing work commitments.
Phone agent said I would get the cert back, but in checking account, looks like it deposited 45,000 points into my account instead.
Should I be able to get the cert back? Not sure what the expectations are now...

I finally got a chance to call. Took some pushing, as they originally said it was just the 45,000 point option, but they finally put me on hold and switched out the 45,000 points for a new Cat 1-4 cert.

Family stay in NC4 or NC5
Hello everyone,
I have tried searching but can't find any related threads (if there are, apologies, I would be very grateful for pointers).
I have a travel package that I can (hopefully) use in a NC4 or NC5 hotel, and am looking for suggestions that will be suitable for a family with two children (will be 2 and 4) - so most likely hotels with 2x double beds in a "standard room". We will be travelling from the UK but very happy to be flexible on location! Most likely looking at next Spring/early summer - but again, this can be flexible.

Orlando is a pretty good option for mid-range hotels good for the whole family.
Europe is tough for 2 queens.
But ultimately you're better off thinking about where you'd like to take the family, then look to see if a suitable Marriott option exists.

I never thought I'd be able to use my certificate if they didn't keep extending it until it happened to work out. But I recently converted it from the old 1-5 to a new 1-4 plus upgraded it to a 5 at the same time. It took several phone calls and they overcharged me 30000 points, but just credited them back because it was easier than trying to fix the mistake. I just used it for a week at Barcelona Renaissance, which worked out well. In the end the week really didn't cost me anything thanks to the old package pricing. But I'm glad to have one less thing to worry about.
The problem in my case is I would have to cancel my 5-night stay (using points) to free up the 60K points for the TP upgrade that I could then apply to a 7-night stay. So many things could potentially go wrong, especially since it is a Sheraton that just moved onto the Marriott platform...

Thank you... yes I appreciate it's a slightly backwards way of thinking, but I have the certificate and we're moving house within the next month so looking to limit cash spending. We haven't travelled much in recent years and there are lots of places we'd like to go - so thinking that it makes sense to start narrowing places down by the free accommodation!

I think this was a tongue in cheek comment due to your heading of stay IN NC4 rather than stay WITH NC4 - but I could be wrong
