Legacy to New Travel Package Conversion (effective August 2018)
A Marriott supervisor can currently convert your legacy travel package into the new category mapping. If you hold a Category 6, 8, or Tier 1-3 legacy certificate, it's ideal to downgrade your certificate before converting so that points don't potentially get lost in the process.

When converting your legacy certificate to a new certificate your prior certificate is cancelled and your new certificate will (in most cases) have an expiration date that is 12 months from the date of issuance (today).

The codes for the New Category partial packages are:
5-night packages
  • OC5=530T/P530 is now NC4 QP53
  • OC6=570T/P570 is now NC4 QP53
  • OC7=610T/P610 is now NC5 QP61 (refund value: 45K)
  • OC8=650T/P650 is now NC5 QP?? (Refund value: 75k)
  • OC9=690T/P690 is now NC6 QP69
7-night packages
  • NC4 QP83 = OC5 830T/P830 (refund value: 45K)
  • NC4 QP87 = OC6 870T/P870 (refund value: 75K)
  • NC5 QP91 = OC7 910T/P910 (refund value: 105K)
  • NC5 QP95 = OC8 950T/P950 (refund value: 135K)
  • NC6 QP99 = OC9 990T/P990 (refund value: 165K)
  • NC6 QP99 = OC Tier 1-3 L830 (refund value: 195K)
  • NC7 QL87 = OC Tier 4-5 L870 (refund value: 315K)
Other 7-night packages
  • NC5 QP88 = OC7 P880 (refund value: 135K)
  • NC5 QP92 = OC8 P920 (refund value: 165K)
legend:
NCx = new certificate category
QPxx = post-merger converted partial package
OCx = old certificate category
QLxx = post-merger converted partial package (only QL known so far is QL87 for NC7)
xx0T = initial package;
Pxx0 = partial package;

For best practices on converting OC to NC, Ive copied post # 1181 here. Thank you jameswes!

(Also, never use the word UPGRADE. You must say you want to CONVERT your certs.)

New data point for the new year.

I've read/followed the majority of this thread and now that I have a plan for how to use the travel certificates I made it happen

Last July, I purchased two OC1-5 travel packages. I have an upcoming trip that I wanted to use the certificates to book two rooms at an NC5 hotel.

1) Verified that I had an extra 120,000 MR points in my account (2x60,000 to upgrade from NC4 to NC5)
2) Call the UK Marriott # in the wiki (+44 20 7012 7312). In total, the call took about 25 minutes.
3) Explain that I have a booking I wanted to make, and I wanted to Cancel my two 830T certificates and convert them to two QP91 certificates. I did need to be clear with the rep that I was going to be using additional points from my account to upgrade the certificate.
Canceling two 830T (OC1-5) added 90,000 points (2x45000) to my account
Ordering two QP91 (NC5) subtracted 210,000 points (2x105K) from my account
4) The rep said that their "specialist" wasn't in the office, but she would leave detailed notes and have him do it the next day
5) True to form, the next day (today), I got an emails saying that my old certificates were canceled and new certificates were ordered.
Email clearly states that 830T certs were canceled
Second email clearly states that QP91 certs were ordered and 210K points were redeemed
Email (and account) state that the expiration is one year from today
As typical, App is up-to-date, website doesn't show the updated information yet.
IMPORTANT! Possible Points Advance Implications of March 5 category changes: Theres a (potential) issue with the category changes and Points Advance reservations. Marriott included the following information when they emailed some of us about the upcoming changes: Points Advance Members who wish to book a points advance redemption under the current Marriott Rewards and SPG award chart are encouraged to order redemption certificates before March 5 to lock in the rate. On March 5, redemption bookings are subject to the new unified program award chart. Weve reached out to Marriott to confirm the practical implications of this verbiage, as it sounds like Points Advance reservations will revert to the new pricing if they dont have certificates attached prior to March 5. To be on the safe side, if your hotel is increasing in category be sure your TP certificate is attached to the reservation before March 5.

Concerning use of TP for peak or off-peak, see post 2179:

I tried calling on the weekend and spoke to a very sympathetic European agent.
She said she would have tried to take points to upgrade me from an OC9 to an NC7 but she didn't think NC7s existed.

She told me that the maximum that anybody will currently have is an NC6 as the NC7s don't exist in the system yet...
I was told the same this morning; NC7's do not exist yet.

Unfortunately this may very well the case.

Came across this DP posted on Flyertea site, the Chinese equivalent of FT. Despite the garbled link, you can still open it to read the original. Hopefully Google Translate would help.

去年换的Cat1-5的7天房券马上到期了,想着就赶紧换了吧。
于是昨天先打电话给万豪客服说要拿房券定7天的威斯汀,然后万豪客服没问我是不是7天房券,就告诉我威斯汀 要去SPG那边定,然后打给SPG那边,SPG客服一听要用万豪7天券又告诉我找万豪才行;
然后又打电话给万豪,这次的客服说9.18号前定不了SPG系的,也不保证9.18号后可以定,但是延期肯定不给延期,所以建议我先定Cat1-4的万豪系,然后能退3W积分,昨晚有事就没定;

YES, we get more than what MR would normally give, but not without our doing some works ourselves. (We means the circle of friends who share information).
Yes, it requires effort and time. MR would not hand it to you without you contacting them and reasoning with them why you deserve that.
Yes, it takes a few tries.
Yes, it works, and yes again, getting more than everyone else.

Many have contributed their successful DPs so we now have a working table to refer to in the Wiki.

MasterGreek has given a simple to follow 3 steps instruction.

Multiple posters have followed the methodology and have successfully got their upgrades or whatever they needed to accomplish for their needs.

What have you contributed to the thread, other than picking others posts to make your comments that do not help anybody to achieve anything?

Your information cannot be more wrong.

The code of a cert has to be loaded into the conversion table before the rep can do anything.

Reps can only go over the various tables to find the closest match code. They can not create one. However they can exercise their authorities based on how much they have, to only charge you the old cost to upgrade / to deposit additional points in your account to facilitate an upgrade.
That is how the system works.

Perhaps you should ask the agent how they would convert your legacy Tier 4-5 cert into a usable NC7 cert? Once they can answer that question you will know the code to order an NC7 cert. If they can't answer that question you are wasting your time, HUCA. Someone at Marriott knows the answer.
Marriott ANNOUNCED the New Package Structure, does not mean they are ACTUALLY selling those just yet.

Just like Marriott has told us on August 19 that we no longer need to wait after the lock down month to use our TPs - it isn't the case - else we would have have this ongoing thread that does not seem would be end any time soon!

Besides, nobody has purchased the new TP and reported back what the code is. Nor anyone has been able to convert to NC7, even though their reps can convert the certs to the NCs which codes are loaded in the table already.

Based on experiences talking to Marriott CS in North America / UK / Asia - I would say that UK and Asia reps are far far more up to date on their knowledge, and far far more competent in doing their jobs.

vivrant is told the same thing by the UK rep as Jermyn being told by the North America rep, that NC 7 does not exist just yet. Because the UK reps really know their stuff and far far more willing to help if UK rep also could not find the NC7 in the table, then this may be true that the NC7 has not been created yet.

Quite the contrary. I am very happy to essentially receiving enough for a Cat 5 hotel night and then some.

I just dont see why some people do not want to see positive data points posted so others can be benefited if they so decide to follow suit.

If I am not willing to put in the effort and time while others do, I would just stay quiet and not commenting on others who tried... or even worse, put down those who try... Strange "blame the victim" mentality.

Me too. My only remaining real interest in reading this thread is to see if anyone can use the cert on SPG properties.

So far nobody has succeeded, either here or elsewhere on the net.

Thanks a lot for posting yet another DP that things can be done, and it is far easier to go thru international numbers.

As a reminder, international call centers do not work 24/7. So you would need to call within their business hours, preferrable not at 30 min before they close shops!

Good Luck to everyone still needs to work on their certs to better suit their travel needs. Need to take initiatives.

THIS DP IS FOR THOSE WHO HOLD 5 NIGHTS PACKAGES BUT NOT REALLY ELIGIBLE TO DO SO.

Just came across this DP posted yesterday 09.11.18, on the Flyertea (Mainland Chinese site equivalent to FT), on how the hotels in China AUDIT the eligibility of the 5 nights certs owners at check in... The outcome is not pleasant if you are not eligible...

It has been reported among people in a hotel loyalty WeChat group based in US - some members of the WeChat group have experienced the Audit from the hotels they booked with the 5 nights cert.

Basically the GMs check the eligibility of the guests using the 5 night certs. They contact the guests when it is already in the 48 hours non cancellable window to inform you that you must be the VC owner, else you have 2 options - either 15% off BAR or as a no show and get 5K refund.

Again, this is practicing at properties presumably in China. But not sure if it is also elsewhere as well because the poster mentioned the DPs were from a WeChat group based in US.

Google Translate is your friend. The garbled link still pulls up the post. It is garbled probably FT could not handle the URL of Chinese sites.

After reading through this and previous thread I just want to make sure I have my options down before I call back for the 5th time. Last call resulting in them hanging up on me when it became apparent to rep that they had no knowledge of how program works.

I hold a Tier 1-3/P830. My options are to call and downgrade to a QP83/Cat 6 and get 45k refund? Or call and attempt an upgrade, anyone know point difference there? Lastly I take it there are no confirmed reports of someone successfully using the old cert post merger for it original value?

I wound up on the phone a couple days back with Marriott trying to make something happen with my tier 1-3. Ive followed this thread and the pre-merger thead all along and collaged together my own script. While I went through hell and back (was even hung up on by a supervisor) over a few days, I finally had my best result with a RC phone rep who cleaned up the mess and delivered me a points result I could settle with. I dont want to set fire to this by saying much more other than working with Ritz for travel package stuff is far better than anyone at Marriott. Granted, this really only holds true probably for tier 1-3 people and tier 4-5 people but this thread is lacking that info so it may be good for those folks.

Called in today to the UK line today around 5pm EST so I suspect this may have bounced to another call center further East.

Asked if I could move a 7 day old category 5 travel package certificate which was attached to a reservation. Wanted to move it to a new reservation at a category 4 property. Agent said it wouldn't be a problem. However clearly something happened as they put me on hold several times and said something about making sure they didn't want to lose the certificate. Eventually the agent came back on the line and said not to worry that my account balance is now showing a negative balance that the manager when he comes in tomorrow would fix this and attach my certificate to the new reservation.

I'm glad I emptied out my balance like someone suggested earlier on in the thread before calling in as it's clearly obvious now there was a mistake made. The balance went down 45,000 points after whatever they did. I'll see what happens tomorrow and if the manager fixes it but have a feeling I will have to call back in to sort out this mess. I really hope the certificate wasn't lost in the process when it was detached! I asked for the certificate number but the agent didn't seem to know what I was talking about.

I suspect one of two things happened.

1) They cancelled your old cert and ordered you a new cert for a higher points cost.
2) They ordered you a new NC4 cert for 45k points and left your existing cert somewhere, either attached to the reservation or in your account.

Check your email for confirmations of what they did and check your account to see what certs show unattached and attached. Keep monitoring and if they do not fix the issue call back.

Tier 1-3 is NOT a P830. P830 is an OC5/NC4. If you have a Tier1-3 cert (we do not have the code for that so if you could check your email confirmation and provide it that would be helpful) which I think should have a 195k points value and can be convert to an NC6 category you could exchange to a QP99/NC6 cert for 165k and get a 30k points refund - Marriott has stated that this is allowed. Or, you could try to upgrade to a NC7 which should cost 30k points but no one knows the code for that cert so it might not be possible. You could also try to exchange for a lower cat cert for a bigger points refund although this is not officially allowed it should be possible with the right agent. Or, you could cancel and refund the certs 195k points value.

7-night packages
  • OC5 830T/P830 = NC4 QP83 (refund value: 45K)
  • OC6 870T/P870 = NC4 QP87 (refund value: 75K)
  • OC7 910T/P910 = NC5 QP91 (refund value: 105K)
  • OC8 950T/P950 = NC5 QP95 (refund value: 135K)
  • OC9 990T/P990 = NC6 QP99 (refund value: 165K)

I wouldn't think this upgrade could be done for 30k. Tier 1-3 to Tier 4-5 upgrade was 120,000 under the old packages.
