New spg.com accepts a max password of 20 characters while legacy website accepted 24 characters.
If your legacy SPG password exceeds 20 characters, you will not be able to login as the 21st character and beyond is truncated. Reset password functionality may also fail. If you see following after attempting to reset password, call SPG to obtain your new SPG# and then return to spg.com to perform a password reset.

In reference to coltonatx’s problem, can not a zero-point, seven-night stay just manually be posted to the new account? Point here being that maybe there are solutions that don’t involve merging in multiple MR accounts.

Not from my vantage point. Adding a stay with any number of nights requires inputting information from an actual completed stay, not a dummy or made up one.

Thank for your responses. My best bet will be to wait and request to have my accounts uncombined down the road if they add this feature.

If Marriott's inability to solve this causes me to not reach 50 nights by the end of the year, I will leave the brand. This should be fixable; I do not think it's an unreasonable request.

I think you should try now using what I posted above. But, your call.

So Monday is the day they said everything would be all working again. Odds that is going to happen?

I have given up for now and spending my money at Hilton. I have spent over 20 hours on the phone with Marriott with various issues. over the past 30 days. Still NOTHING solved. once I waited 45 minutes only to get "hung up on" by the system. At some point Marriott needs to remember what got them here. HOSPITALITY!

When there is NOBODY in the entire company that can make changes like adding nights, points, crediting stays etc for their best clients they clearly just don't care. Somewhere Mr. Marriott is turning over his his grave.

I'm disappointed once again, as Marriott claims that the merger is complete, yet things remain unresolved. I've been patient, but that's just downright annoying.

At least I got this today, but it confirms that everything is not complete as they stated in the closed thread.

I finally got points back that disappeared in an errored out award booking two weeks ago. CSR was openly angry at her system during the hour+ phone call. And this wasn’t the first call. It is ridiculous that anyone should have to spend this amount of time correcting Marriott’s error.

Marriott should give you some courtesy points as an apology. I am serious.

Lightbulb Should you merge you SPG account into MR

Hi all,

Recently saw my SPG account has been equated into MR currency. Should you now merge? Noticed redemption is now a little higher in the new currency.

Thoughts?

Are both accounts correct in terms of points, stays, nights, lifetime nights, lifetime years of elite status, and current status? Can you correctly see all pending reservations? Will you get a higher status or any other benefits upon combining your accounts?

My annual nights, total points, SNA balance, and upcoming reservations are correct. However my lifetime status is gone. Does it take 72 hours for that to return/show properly?

Also I went to collect my Annual Choice (as post combination I am now over 50 but below 75) however it said:

We’re sorry

You're not yet eligible to choose an Annual Choice Benefit. Once you stay at least 50 eligible nights in a qualifying period, you'll get to choose one of these Annual Choice Benefits:
  • Five Suite Night Awards™
  • The gift of Silver Elite status for a friend or family member
  • Five Elite Night Credits
  • $100 (USD) donation to UNICEF
  • 40% off your favorite hotel bed
Continue to stay and reach 75 eligible nights, and you'll get to make an additional selection with the added options of a Free Night Award or the opportunity to gift Gold Elite status.

BOOK NOW
View past choices
*Qualified members will be able to select their annual choice gift within 48 hours of night threshold achievement.

Does this also take 48-72 hours before I can collect it?
UPDATE: Slightly less than 48 hours after combining my accounts, the Annual Choice benefit appeared and my Lifetime status is correct on both Starwood & Marriott.

It's only one data point but if your accounts are correct now - I'd say it's safe to combine them. If they are NOT correct separately I'd wait until both are correct before combining. But once correct the combining process works as it should (at least in my case).

I am also affected by a post-merger reduction of lifetime nights stayed, in my case from 580 (as it showed on the website after I merged accounts) to 566 this week. I called Marriott, spoke to an agent who said she would "investigate", and after ~35min on hold, the call disconnected.

I have other things to do in my life but I'm really upset as the missing nights can make the difference between Lifetime Plat this year or not.

It seems safe to combine them, but there are a few points noone addressed. It’s clear that if you’ve achieved PLT in both programs in the same year, you get 2 years forward lifetime status. It’s also clear that for 2018 if you achived status in both programs before the merger, the same applies. What about people reaching plat in either or both programs now? My guess if you combine before next year, you’llnget a single year towards lifetime, as it will be “a single account in a single program” at the end of year.

“Linked” is the key word here. If the two accounts were linked, it would seem that you would have claim to all nights in both, and you should be getting the higher status of the two.
