It's entirely subjective. Some suite upgrades are more valuable than others. Also, not everyone would value the same upgrade equally. Further, the desirability of a suite upgrade at the same hotel will vary with the number of guests and their expectations. Lastly, the possibility of getting the upgrade anyway would affect the valuation.

The most valuable suite upgrades are those that can be confirmed at the time of booking, as Fairmont allowed. Since SNAs don't clear until a few days before your stay, they aren't as valuable as those that are confirmed earlier. Finally, there is always the possibility that the upgrade would have happened anyway, which may be more likely for higher tier and repeat customers.

For example: I might pay $200 for a suite upgrade at a particular hotel at the time of booking, $100 for one confirmed 5 days out if I didn't expect to get an upgrade on arrival, and less than $50 if I thought I had a good chance of getting upgraded anyway.

Marriott Choice Benefit - 5 Elite Credits

Question for those familiar with the Platinum choice benefits.

One of the options is 5 elite credits. If I select that as my benefit, to which year will the 5 elite credits post? My preference would be to have them apply to 2019, but I didn’t know if that was possible.

I have already hit platinum, and using them this year would only assist me in reaching a higher level of platinum. Does the choice have to be made before Dec 31, or can I wait until Jan 1 to select? Thanks in advance for the info.

From Marriott regarding Five Elite Night Credits:

Elite Nights that are awarded to an eligible Platinum Elite or Platinum Premier Elite Member as the Member’s Annual Choice Benefit will be awarded in the Eligible Status Year for which the Elite Nights were earned, regardless of when the Member selects the Five Elite Night Credits as his/her Annual Choice Benefit. For the avoidance of doubt, the Eligible Calendar Year in which the Annual Choice Benefit is earned is the Eligible Calendar Year for which the Elite Nights will be credited toward earning Elite membership status.

The five additional status nights will be considered to have been earned in 2018 regardless of when they are selected.

Means if you are certain you can't reach PP with this 5N gift in 2018 it's useless, right?

Does this answer make sense, though? There are many reports of people successfully choosing their Choice Benefit, so it clearly isn't down. If she said it is not working for some people then it makes more sense.

I'd imagine "working" == "up 100%" in this case; I don't know what's happening with the MR/SPG backends[1], but there's still people who can't things I was able to do two days after the IT merger.

[1] - sadly enough, as the days trickle on, I wonder if MR does either? I mean, I've had points and nights credit post-merger, yet no listing on "Past Stays". Seems to me it'd be easier to annotate a property listing on the webpage as "stayed" vs. collecting spend/nights/points from properties far and wide, and having those update, yet here we are ....

Gotcha, and thanks for the info. In my particular case I will reach PP (with or without the extra 5 credits) by December, but no chance of hitting 100 nights for 2018 (even with 5 more credits). Hence why I was curious if they could be applied to 2019.

But seeing as they can't, I will just pick another benefit. Again, thanks to all for the clarification.

Missing spg here : Marriott mention 2 weeks to get it in account. What an IT clown team they have. Confirmation email :

Your Annual Choice Benefit, one Free Night Award, is confirmed.

Your Free Night Award is given to you in the form of an e-certificate and will be deposited into your account within two weeks of making your selection. You can view your e-certificate(s) on the Activity page within your account.

Let's see if we can isolate this....

Did you merge your accounts already?
Did you reach 75 nights before or after the account merge?
Did you keep your Marriott account# or the new SPG account#?
Did you choose your 50-night benefit prior to account merge?

My answers on this are:

Accounts merged.
Reached 75 nights post-account merge.
I kept the new SPG#.

Prior to reaching 75 nights I had the link on the webpage to select the 50-night benefit, that link errored out.
After reaching 75 nights I had the link on the webpage to select the 75-night benefit, that link errors out.

I did choose my 50-night benefit from my SPG account prior to account merge.

Here :
- 50 nights with SPG in MAY > have chosen 10 upgrade voucher
- 100 nights with SPG in JUNE > ambassador
- Merge account 24 august > 160 nights total
- Choosen 1 free night last week > posted on my account with the previous certificate

I don't understand why I was able to choose another 75 benefit )))

Did you make a choice once you hit 50 nights with SPG? Legacy SPG only had the 10 nights after 50 regardless what you had at the time you made your choice. The new site had determined you made a choice at 50 and you are entitled to another choice at 75. This is different that what was previously described and only a first year issue so doubt they would try to undo it. Had you looked before you combined your accounts, you may have had an offer for a 50 night benefit in your MR account (presuming (160 - 100 = 60). Not sure if they would do anything retroactively.

Sorry if this has been answered - I'm at 50+ nights currently, and will soon hit 75. If I select my 50 night Choice Benefit now, and then my 75 in a couple weeks when I hit that, are those choices good for a calendar year from the date I select them? Or, since these just hit mid-year due to the merger, are these choices just for the remainder of 2018 and then I'll get to make another in 2019?

Not sure I understand how these work and when they expire.
