It's a silly way for Marriott to do it, and they should state more clearly on the selection page that the nights will apply to the current year, not the next year.

That said, one of the benefits of FT is being able to check these things out before taking the plunge.

Isn't it clear? https://www.flyertalk.com/forum/30721819-post729.html

What the OP is complaining about is selecting the choice the year after it was earned, so it applies to previous year and not current year in this case.

That sucks. I feel for the OP. You would think a customer service operation would want to make the customer happy and not get over on the customer.

Some need more hand holding than others. I know that is true for me sometimes, but I do read this clearly.

The vast majority will not need the five qualifying nights and can choose SNAs, a cheaper bed or a charity donation (though given the number of sour comments in this forum I suspect that charity would be the last thing selected).

There really isn't anything worthy of creating a new thread about given that it's discussed endlessly already in the Choice Benefits thread and the situation the OP found themself in, while unfortunate, was a result of not reading or understanding the very clear T&Cs correctly.

If the 5 elite nights credit can only apply for one year, to me it makes perfect sense that this should be the previous year since few people know early in the year where they will be at the end of the year in terms of elite status.

Some would argue that CS should consistently apply the same rules to everyone.

I agree. That's why I always hesitate to choose "Lower Requalification Level" which discounts 5,000 AQM in the future year as Air Canada Optional Elite Privilege

I made my selection last Tuesday, and opted for the bed discount.

IIRC the selection page indicated that the code would be sent in 2 days. 8 days later, I'm still waiting.

Did anyone else choose the bed? Have you gotten your code? How long did it take?

I made the bed discount selection late December 2018. I received an email promptly, with a link to get the code. Just tried this week, and the link is a dead end on Marriott .com....
I will ping my ambassador at some point to get it straightened out...

I am almost 100% sure that you could gift Platinum status when reaching 75 nights. Now it says Gold. Is my memory wrong?

Edit: seems my memory is wrong..
