To view your cumulative years of status at each level, log into your Marriott or SPG account and then visit https://www.marriott.com/rewards/myA...ightDetails.mi

Until you merge accounts, the summary will show only the stats for whichever legacy program account youre logged into (and not your combined totals in the new program).

Why does my Marriott lifetime elite total show several years of Plat status? I was Gold in the past, but never earned Plat.
Confusingly, Marriott has changed the terminology for elite levels in the new program. In the past, Gold meant you had 50+ nights in one year; going forward, Gold is the 25-night level & members who stay 50+ nights are Plat.

As a result, all prior years at the old, harder-to-earn Gold level are treated as Plat in the new program. Heres how Starwood Lurker explained things in the wiki (FAQ B4) at https://www.flyertalk.com/forum/star...tml#lifeheader:
Past years at applicable Marriott Rewards and Ritz-Carlton Rewards Elite Night levels will be counted in the following way:
Previous Member Level -> New Member Tenure Level
Years at Silver Elite (10 nights) Years count as Silver Elite
Years at Gold Elite (50 nights) Years count as Platinum Elite
Years at Platinum Elite (75 nights) Years count as Platinum Elite
Years at Platinum Premier Elite (unpublished) Years count as Platinum Elite
Past years in SPG Elite levels will be counted in the following way:
Previous Member Level -> New Member Tenure Level
Years at Gold Preferred (25 nights) Years count as Gold Elite
Years at Platinum Preferred (50/75/100 nights) Years count as Platinum Elite
The years that members achieved Elite status due to credit cards will count towards Lifetime status.

referring to hotel credit cards earning via spend
not via amex platinum etc, at least my amex plat starwood gold didnt count
wonder if amex centurion starwood plat counted.. (1999 > 2007 = 9)

amex has had nights for 4 years, so 20 nights, more for those who just renewed

I have had the same experience -- hit both 50 and 75 nights this year after combining accounts and at neither time did my years of status counter change. Multiple SPG/Marriott contact points have told me it won't change until the end of the year, but we'll see what happens.

There have been some scattered reports of changes during the year, some of which seem to be attributed to various behind-the-scenes changes and corrections like Marriott changing course on whether challenge years of status count; possible that any mid-year changes are still due to things like that.

Nope, combined last week. 9 SPG Platinum years (last one qualified in 2018) and 79 nights on my Marriott account. Still at 9 years. I should get a 10th year at some point, but I'm not assuming this will happen without intervention.

I'm not going to make lifetime, but I combined over the weekend and my Plat years counter now includes 2 for 2018. Previously my Marriott-legacy account refused to show the Platinum year despite being on 50 nights for months...

Did that happen automatically or did it take 72 hours? I combined over the weekend as well, but still shows as 9 years.

Are there any ETA on the update on the year counter being updated with respect to account activity recorded in 2018?

There's a whole thread of people trying to figure all that stuff out:

https://www.flyertalk.com/forum/marr...happening.html

One person was told "before March" (upon calling Marriott) per a recent post in that thread, perhaps to a slightly different question that yours, but since year counters only relate to lifetime status, it seems that anything having to do with lifetime status might be delayed into next month.

And the answer might be different depending on the specific activity. For example, evaluating who gets an extra year because of 25+ stays in 2018 on the Starwood side might take longer than figuring out who gets an extra year because of 50+ nights in 2018 on the Marriott side. Marriott is more used to counting Marriott metrics than Starwood metrics. (But then, Marriott is not that used to counting years!)

Lets hope they do execute relevant test cases before pushing any code into production this time ...otherwise it will be a rerun of amateur hour ...

William,

Could you by any chance confirm if were getting two years towards lifetime if we did 50+ nights in 2018 separately on the two accounts before merging?

No. And, one reason why is that we discussed that this is what would happen as far back as last April. Still, there are questions about it. So, now we all get to wait and see if it happens or not.

Another reason is that I'm not confirming anything that I can't personally make happen. You'll have to trust me that this is a little out of my area.

Thank you for the answer - I didnt mean to demand a confirmation, but was hopong if youve got an update about it. It feels like you lurkers are the only way to get any useful information these days.

No worries, but I don't get updates on things like this. That being said, we're all going to know for sure in the coming weeks.
