Rewarding Events Online Booking

Rewards

2 points per $1 USD or 1 mile per $1 USD spent per qualifying event (base members can earn up to 60,000 points; while Platinum Premier Elite members can earn up to 105,000 points per qualifying event).

Get 10 Elite Qualifying Nights for the first meeting ó and achieve Silver Elite status automatically.

Earn one Elite Qualifying Night for every additional 20 room nights booked ó up to 20 Elite Qualifying Nights per contract.

Note: Money spent on events reportedly does not count towards the $20,000 spend needed for Ambassador status.

Changes from Old Program

10 elite nights are earned only for the first meeting every year. Previously, it was 10 elite nights per meeting.

FAQ

Do I have to show up? - Maybe. Some people have no-showed at events and still had them post. Others have had no-shows that did not post.

What is a good rate? - Around $100 is considered a good rate for a meeting that lasts an hour or two.

What should I ask for if book a meeting just for the 10 elite nights? - It is recommended to ask for a meeting room for 2 people for 30 minutes or an hour. You can say it is for an interview. No audio/visual or catering is needed, and the meeting time is flexible.

Which hotels have the lowest rates for meetings? - Typically, the lower priced brands like Fairfield, Courtyard, etc., have small meeting rooms that can be less expensive. But it depends on the location.

The rules changed post 8/18 to say that you can only earn 10 nights once per calendar year, and they're looking at the whole calendar year now to see if you earned 10 nights before. So, unfortunately, because you earned 10 nights (once or more) before 8/18, you can't earn 10 more elite nights again after 8/18 this year.

In fact, AFAIK, no one who had a meeting (which wasn't the first of the year) before 8/18 but which posted after 8/18 even get 10 more elite nights.

Is that per calendar year in writing yet? Because last I remember seeing in thread and on the Marriott was that it was 10 nights for the first event with no clarification if that was per calendar year or per lifetime. If it hasn't been clarified, we'll have to wait until January and see if additional meetings post with night credits.

No it has not shown up in print anywhere. And from what others have posted is subject to change based upon statements by MPG officials. I would hope they will come to their senses and correct this mistake and apply the change retroactively. But then I have been known to be a dreamer.

So following up on a ticket for my event on August 13. I got points and no nights. Spoke with the GM at the hotel who says he canít repost the event with elite nights and Marriott canít award any elite nights so he apologized for me being caught in the middle of the merger. I called MR back and supposedly a specialist will review my ticket for no elite nights...we will see.

Yikes! Keep us posted on the outcome.
i was able to book a meeting at a Courtyard in Hamilton, Ontario. This is my first ever meeting. I am 12 nights away from Platinum status. Will book a 2 night getaway for the extra nights needed.
I inquired via the online link on the hotels website. The events co-ordinator responded within a day and after providing more details, she offered the hour meeting for $150 plus HST. She suggested that an early morning or late meeting time would work best for the hotel. I graciously offered to have a 7pm meeting but asked if she would consider a $100 fee in return for my flexibility. She accepted. The meeting is in a month from now. The contract she sent does ask for the Marriott Rewards member number so I’m hoping there will be no issues with getting the nights. I am prepared to chase them down if need be.
I said that I was conducting an interview and that I would not require any AV, food, just a table and some chairs. I do plan on showing up with a business looking bag, buy a coffee in their bistro with my SO in tow.
We plan on staying at some Marriotts in Europe in 2019 so having Platinum status is well worth the $100.

Marriott flat out refusing to honor their old terms and told me to call Office of Consumer Affairs. They don't give a s**t that my contracts say 10 qualifying nights per event

Not sure if I want to take this further, given that they were cheap 1hr meetings; and a lot were on the same day. OTOH this WAS over $2000 USD still. (even if I used points on my card to cover it), and they did promise verbally and in writing (so they clearly were willing to lie and take $$)

Your contract specified the 10 nights would be awarded?
I just signed off on a contract, my rewards number was on it but nothing specific about the elite nights.

Yes my contracts specifically state 10 nights per meeting/event. All of these were before August 18

well spoke with the GM at the hotel. He called MR and basically stated the terms of the program changed and there is nothing the hotel can do to award the elite nights. That is on the MR side. He did apologize and offer some bonus points, but said he was out of options from a property level. They did open a high priority ticket with MR but nothing back on that so far. Frustrated!

Does a property get to opt out if it feels like it?

I am in the process of booking a meeting at a Courtyard that I have, in previous years, booked meetings at that earned 10 EQM. I have asked to make sure that the 10 EQN would be a problem and they ran around answering that question on a number of emails. Eventually they said they don't participate and I was wondering if it is a property to property benefit. I assumed that all Courtyards would be a part of a program that is advertised as being brand-wide (except for 3 specific brands).
Any thoughts on this?

Was that reposted, or hadn't posted in the first place? Are the EQNs due to having booked a block of rooms (since I assume this is not your first meeting of the year)?

Held my meeting at a Courtyard yesterday, booked the day before. Was told the turnaround was too quick for a contract but the event specialist confirmed I would get 10 elite nights even though she wasn't familiar with it at first. The person who quoted me from Rewarding Events didn't seem familiar with it either - so I'm in a holding pattern until points post I guess. Sweating this one out as it's my first Rewarding Events but I need those 10 nights before I go on a 10 night mattress run that is booked (nonrefundable).
