Wonder if the pool is outdoors or indoors...
Even if the pool at McMurdo is outdoors it will still probably be warmer than the one at JWM South Beach Singapore.

So just to be a smart aleck, I found the ONE day where the Empower McMurdo had availability and booked it for $569/night Marriott Rewards member rate. I was warned on the rate page that it was for training only and that the property is not bookable and my reservation would not be honored.

I ignored the prompt... and got a reservation! Idle curiosity more than anything. Funny enough, portions of the Empower McMurdo retain the description of a Sheraton in Ethiopia.

To not try to be a total smart aleck I tried to cancel my own reservation only to get a blank prompt on the Marriott.com website! Luckily, I was able to cancel through the Marriott android app.

(If anyone is curious, the only date showing availability is February 23rd, 2019 check-in with check-out the next day.)

It would have been even better if the only date showing availability was February 29, 2019.

I'm currently watching the PBS.com series Hillary (Sir Edmond Hillary) so the McMurdo Station reference is very timely.

Hopefully they don't walk you, because there aren't many other options nearby and sleeping in your car would be highly inadvisable.

I dunno ... there's no way MR would charge you a "no show" for a property that doesn't exist, you'd think? Someone's pulled that day (either that, or we've booked all the rooms ) so I can't try it (and I don't have time to use the "Flexible Dates" right now).

I think the next question I have is whether or not the McMurdo lounge serves anything hot besides scrambled eggs for breakfast

Sheraton Mcmurdo Sound

On Bonvoy tonight, offered this booking

Relax in luxury and comfort with a spacious Villa.

Clicking through brought up room rates in the middle $150's, and a phone number in Maryland (HQ).

Be sure to choose a rate with breakfasts. They charge a fortune for breakfasts and don't honor elite breakfast benefit.
