Question about room upgrades in design hotels
So I’m a platinum elite and last year I hit up quite a few Design hotels and I luckily got ikgrades each time
howver i I looked at the SPG benefits chart and it doesn’t mention room upgrades as a benefit
Was the room upgrade benefit recently changed for design hotels or was i just lucky before?

Upgrades have been available for many months now:

There is also a whole existing FT thread on this very issue.
There are many useful things on the internet by using the search function.

I'm at a design hotel in Berlin- the Berlin Zoo- and even tho there are upgrades available they don't honor it. They offered to let me pay for the upgrade tho.
There was no welcome gift or breakfast either- nor even the customary - "thanks for being a loyal PP member etc." I've def gotten status at other design hotels- I guess it is complete hit or miss.

Fake news.

AFAIK it's still the case that not all Design Hotels participate in SPG at all.
My experience has been that some Design Hotels are thrilled to be part of Starwood and very eager to go above and beyond for upgrades and late checkouts. OTOH their own rates have some plans with breakfast or they sell it as a fairly inexpensive add-on, so they're not willing to give it for free (and I don't think there's a mechanism for enable Plats to pick breakfast in lieu of our 500 point welcome amenity).
