Bottom line is that if you received welcome amenity points, or $10 credit, that's it: they are not required to cover a restaurant breakfast in full.
That's only if it's a resort. The T&C specifically say:

In the United States and Canada: When a Participating Property's Lounge is closed, or property does not have a Lounge or approved alternative, the property will offer a daily breakfast in the restaurant for the Member plus one (1) guest, or Member can choose 750 Points per day. In Europe: Participating Properties without a Lounge or approved alternative offer daily breakfast in restaurant for Member plus one (1) guest, or Member can choose 750 Points per day. This benefit applies to the following brands: JW Marriott, Marriott Hotels, Delta Hotels, Autograph Collection, and Renaissance Hotels.

● The Algonquin Hotel Times Square, Autograph Collection
● Boston Marriott Copley Place
● Boston Marriott Long Wharf
● Chicago Marriott Downtown Magnificent Mile
● JW Marriott Essex House New York City
● JW Marriott New Orleans
● JW Marriott San Francisco Union Square
● JW Marriott Washington, DC
● The Lexington Hotel, Autograph Collection
● Monterey Marriott
● New York Marriott Marquis®
● Philadelphia Marriott Downtown
● Renaissance Boston Waterfront Hotel
● Renaissance Chicago Downtown Hotel
● Renaissance Los Angeles Airport Hotel
● Renaissance New York Hotel 57
● Renaissance New York Midtown Hotel
● Renaissance New York Times Square Hotel
● Renaissance Washington, DC Downtown Hotel
● Marriott Marquis San Diego Marina

For hotels of Autograph Collection brand in United States, the Elite Welcome Gift for Platinum Elite members and above will be 1,000 Points per Stay or U.S. $10 food and beverage ("F&B") credit per Stay. For resorts of this brand in United States, the Elite Welcome Gift will be 1,000 Points per Stay or breakfast in restaurant per day of Stay for Member +1.

As The Draftsman, Autograph Collection is not a resort, it does not offer breakfast as an option of Elite Welcome Gift.

We are not sure what the 750 Points are about. If you could provide more details to us via private mail here or by email below, we are happy to look into this.

You're mistaking what is being complained about. Marriott's policy re: breakfast for Autograph Collections (as found in the T&Cs)

" Breakfast for Platinum/Titanium/Ambassador + 1 in the lounge. If the hotel does not have a lounge or the lounge is closed, member can choose 750 points OR breakfast for member + 1. Any of these benefits are in addition to the Platinum Elite welcome gift.

— Autograph Collection (excluding resorts)"

This hotel is not a resort. Therefore, it needs to provide either breakfast for elite+1 or 750 points. The hotel is not in compliance. Please run this up the chain of command & inform the property they don't get to go rogue & not provide a breakfast option.

For anyone staying at the property, invoke the $100 guarantee since they're not providing breakfast. It needs to be done before check out.

Cheers.

Just to be clear, at check-in the agent acknowledged my status and told me that I would receive the 1,000 point welcome gift plus 750 points for no lounge/breakfast. I did not ask about any of this, so it seems to me that it's the hotel's policy to offer this.

Sorry for the above, I think I understand now. The problem here seems to be that the hotel is arbitrarily giving 750 points in preemptively shutting off the possibility of a free breakfast choice?

That's what the hotel is doing, but it's violating MAR policy. It's breakfast (can be a simple cont'l, although some give full) OR 750 points. But it's not just 750 w/o the option of offering breakfast.

MAR has a $100 penalty when properties don't comply w/ breakfast policy. . Offering just 750 points w/o offering breakfast option is a violation of policy. I would encourage those staying at the property to invoke the breakfast penalty. Print out the T&Cs to prove the policy.

Cheers.

Just an update so the loyalty performance team I guess talked to the hotel and they told them that they offered me the option of breakfast or 750 points.

I'll just never return to this property again and I'm starting to questioned my continued loyalty to Marriott as a whole. This mickey mouse crap they make their members deal with is for the birds. When I used to stay with hiltons I never had to complain to hilton about a hotel not giving me the benefits the T&C called for. Ever.

I'd encourage others to avoid this hotel too until they decide to come into compliance.

I would encourage others to stay at the property (if it's decent) & invoke the $100 guarantee every time it's not in compliance. Enough people do that the property will probably get in compliance. Also, if you (generic you) get a survey, score them lower due to the non-compliance issue. Also ding them on TA for not being in compliance.

Hotel: Since we don't have a lounge, we offer 750 points.
Guest: I'll take the breakfast
Hotel: We only offer 750 points.
Guest. When Autograph Collection properties (other than resorts) don't have a lounge, Marriott T&Cs say 750 points or breakfast. I'll take the breakfast.
Hotel: We only offer 750 points at our property.
Guest: Well, I'll take the $100 breakfast guarantee penalty for not being in compliance w/ MAR policy. Here are the T&Cs.

Cheers.

as an aside I stayed here before the merge with spg and elite breakfast so I did take the f&b benefit. Nice hotel, enjoyed the rooms, liked the farm house doors. Grilled cheese was fantastic downstairs

biggest dislike is total lack of parking as valet added an expense I would have preferred not to pay

My guess would be that they were willing to lie this time, claiming that they offered breakfast as an alternative, to cover themselves against the amenity liability payment. From now on, I think the franchise owners, or management, will likely instruct the staff to offer both.

Just curious...so how does one actually invoke this? A property that isn't going to give you a $2 COGS breakfast is going to fork over $100 because you hold a piece of paper in front of them? Marriott, which doesn't even know that I've been at a property to credit my points half the time, is going to fly their general counsel into CHO to drop the hammer? I mean, I'm just genuinely wondering, what are the actual mechanics involved here? This seems like something that is easy for MR to write on a piece of paper and then never act on.

if the hotel refuses escalate to Corp. call, email or tweet Marriott. I had a recent stay at another property that didn’t live up to the elite gaurantee and I had the matter resolved via Twitter

Stayed at The Draftsman recently. Nice hotel. Breakfast vouchers given without problem. Voucher is limited to 2 persons per night.

As far as I know, there is no buffet (didn't see any, and it is not listed on the menu). If I remember correctly, the voucher doesn't have any language on what is covered.

Voucher was good for anything on the menu, the breakfast attendant didn't seem to care.
