The Tasman, Luxury Collection - Hobart, Tasmania [Master Thread]
I did a search but didn't see anything re: this. Marriott press release today.
http://news.marriott.com/2017/11/lux...otel-tasmania/ "The Luxury Collection Hotels & Resorts today announced it will debut the brand’s first-ever hotel in Tasmania in late 2018, following a full-scale renovation. Owned by Trawalla Group Parliament Square Hotel Operator Pty Ltd., The Tasman, a Luxury Collection Hotel, Hobart will reside in repurposed heritage buildings in Parliament Square, a new design-led, urban development that is set to revitalize the neighborhood, uniting the city’s unique past with its contemporary culture." Cheers. |
Interesting. The hotel has been already listed on spg.com but was removed some time ago.
Looks like it's back now: http://www.starwoodhotels.com/luxury...au/detail.html |
This would be great if ends up opening -- just love Tasmania. Now we just need more Starwood presence in NZ
|
Thanks for posting this, Sharon. Tasmania has long been on our bucket list. Good to know there will be a nice Starwood/Marriott property there.

Tasmania desperately needs 5 star hotel investment, especially from global chains. Good to see SPG following Hyatt into this market.

I posted this back on the Australian 'sister site':

Now opening Dec '19.

By Dec 2, 19 would be good for me. Does anyone know what is the issue? First 2018, then June, and now December. That is pretty severe.

I guess its pretty common for new hotel to push back their opening times |
This is a complicated project: a heritage site and structure dating to 1847, but with some pretty charmless deco facade add-on. I’m sure the finished building will be great; but it’s never simple dealing with planning issues in that precinct. This is one of 3 major additions for Hobart. Crowne Plaza and Hyatt will also open this year ( they too experienced delays). They will join the Henry Jones Art Hotel and the Islington at the top of the market. |
This article says 2020. https://insights.ehotelier.com/peopl...-hotel-hobart/
Hmmm..... Edited: Now the hotel web page says September 2020. |
Do we have any further information beyond “Opening in Nov 2020” (per https://www.marriott.com/hotels/trav...otel-hobart/)?

Some parts of the project will rely on interstate firms and with the closure of the state border could delay fit out further. |
