Best Sheraton in the world -- what are your favorites?
 

Looks like I started somewhat of a trend with the W thread, but I'm curious to hear what the best of each brand is, even as we get into the lower-end ones.

This one is tough too… Sheraton is a giant sea of mediocrity too. A few that stood out for having at least one positive trait:

- Sheraton Tribeca - wonderful views, and lovely rooftop patio for the club lounge. But otherwise, dreadful hard product. Amazing location.
- Sheraton Palace Gangnam - bad service, meh lounge, horrible horrible base room, but after a lot of fighting I got an absolutely wonderful club-level suite that was beautiful and massive and upgraded in every way.
- Sheraton Zurich - love the modern decor. Upgrades have been pretty spotty. Club lounge is… alright. Location is convenient enough.

A sea of mediocrity:
- Sheraton Tokyo - bad, overpriced, lousy service, horrible location, and way too big.
- Sheraton Westpark Munich - mehhhhhhh
- Sheraton Hanoi - good breakfast, I guess

Some are total dumps and should get an award for how bad they are:
- Sheraton Universal City - horrible everything
- Sheraton Great Wall Beijing - horrible service

Ugh ..... Sheraton....... let me think and get back to you next year.......

Sheraton Grand Rio. By far!

IMHO: location beats Fasano and the Copacabana Palace. Of course the latter are far better and nicer hotels. But their location is inferior. Only the Sheraton boasts a semi-private beach.

Btw. Plat amenities are extremely nice at this Sheraton!

Sheraton Guangzhou - If you dropped me in there and told me it was a Westin, I probably would have ranked it as the nicest Westin I’d been to. Nice location, huge suite upgrade, amazing lounge on top floor with outdoor space, and top notch service.

Honorable Mention:
Sheraton Wild Horse - Nice for a US Sheraton resort. Beautiful setting.

Sheraton Tokyo Bay - This place seems all over the map in the reviews, but our two stays were in nicely renovated rooms and the breakfast buffet in the lobby on our last stay was excellent. Have heard that Plats no longer get that, which might knock it down a notch or two.

I almost always only stay at Sheraton hotels for work, either because rates at my preferred nicer hotels are too crazy or because there is no other nicer option in smaller towns/markets. I also rarely use or care about the infamous lounge; I care far more about how good room service or the hotel restaurant may be.

Pleasantly surprised Sheratons:

Sheraton Hartford South--a shockingly good bar and restaurant, always clean and comfortable rooms, and a staff always trying to please. I don't mind staying here ever, which is surprising for me. Nothing nearby, but it's so good I don't mind.

Sheraton Boston--a surprisingly attentive and well run massive conference hotel. It's huge, and yet I've almost always had nice service, good rooms and upgrades, and reasonable rates. Location is also excellent.

Sheraton Wild Horse Pass--a newly renovated, clean and up to date property and absolutely beautiful location, with good reliable service. Feels like a resort.

Sheraton Grand Los Cabos--never stayed, but visited friends and had surprinsgly good food, drinks, and service, and our friends' rooms were spacious, well appointed, and had nice views. Surprised me.

Sheraton Grand Sacramento--always have nice stays, food food and beverage, nice spacious rooms/suites, and good service.

Sheraton Kona--suprisingly good service for a stay many years ago, good rates, good food, subpar grounds, solid air con...but I enjoyed the stay.


Solid and pleasant Sheratons:

Sheraton University City Philadelphia--was under second reno in spring, curious to see if improved. Good service usually but not always. I've used this lounge, and it's not bad. Love the noodle restaurant. They always upgrade me to suite, even when I'd rather they didn't. :)

Sheraton Tel Aviv--could use refresh but conveniently located and not had service. Ocean views even. Nice location.

Sheraton Fisherman's Wharf San Francisco--solid service, convenient location for trips out of the city in either direction, reasonable rates usually, decent clean rooms, decent food/beverage, like their lobby lounge.


Not good Sheratons, places I avoid if possible:

Sheraton Downtown Philadelphia--had all the bells and whistles but I hated my room

Sheraton New York Times Square--small rooms, lines at front desk, massive factory hotel, phone bureaucracy nightmares, elevstor nightmares, service suffers by default. Great doormen though.


Horrible Sheratons, you couldn't pay me enough:

Sheraton Universal City Los Angeles--it's just atrocious.

I'm glad I'm not the only one hating the abomination that is the Sheraton Universal City LA.

Also stayed at the Sheraton Waikiki, which was alright. And the Sheraton Steamboat which I remember quite liking as a ski resort destination.

We have had some incredible Sheraton stays - Krabi and Pattaya are two that come to mind but unfortunately both have left Starwood in recent years.

Sheraton Wetlands Hangzhou is beautiful and highly recommended.

Sheraton Grand in Beijing is beautiful and has excellent Chinese food.

Though I think both of these are grands... so not sure if they qualify as Sheratons.

Sheraton Hua Hin is one of the best values in the Starwood system. Been there 4-5 times even though the beach is terrible the pool, service and club lounge wonderful.

I don't particularly like the Sheraton brand concept or design, so when in that price range I usually manage to replace a Sheraton with something like a Westin or Grand Hyatt. Nowadays I would say that I'd even often prefer a Four Points or Tribute.

Thinking to good Sheraton experiences, they've really all been at Sheraton Grand properties which keep some of the brand standards but appear to do their own thing for the rest.

The Sheraton Grand Park Lane and the Sheraton Grand Dubai are both fine business hotels which combine quality service with product. At their price point I can usually find something with a bit more character though.

TriBeCa is terrible.

I don't think it's too bad, personally. You get what you pay for, and I've had nights there for $130 which given the location is pretty extraordinary.

I got a "good deal" on a BRG there recently at 285, down from like $400… def not worth that kind of dough. NYC is stupid expensive.

That said, it's a crappy hotel, but the location is everything, and I love the NYC views.

Sheraton Kona? Seriously - one of the best in the world? You are talking Hawaii, correct. Definitely one of the worst - well maybe not the worst but nowhere near one of the best...............in the world:eek:

Well, he did say "pleasantly surprised" not "best in the world."

I think it's almost impossible to put "best in the world" and "Sheraton" in the same sentence…

This was a decade ago, as I noted it was a while ago.

It's an older property, yep. But they upgraded me to their best suite. They made sure the air con worked in advance, and brought fans to help ensure my comfort--without being asked. They also opened up room service 30 min early for us almost every morning of our stay so we could get breakfast--since we had to depart so early for diving. That level of service isn't so common. They also helped us clean our gear, and were extremely accommodating in hosting our friends and family with/for a nearby event. Food and beverage were pretty good, too. Location was perfect for our event nearby, too.

Compared to most Sheratons, that was extremely good service. Compared to St Regis, nope...but compared to Sheratons? Yes, that was exemplary.

Sheraton on the Park, Sydney (great location and best club lounge food I've had)

Sheraton Frankfurt Airport (both for convenience and great club lounge)
