"For platinum members, there's a weekly management cocktail on wednesdays, drinks (wine, beer, mojito, hard liquor) and some pretty good amuse bouche provided. It seems that only a few of the platinum members will receive the "invite", but if anyone is there on wednesday nights, try your luck at the club lounge to RSVP for the event."

I made it a point to ask one of the staff downstairs to let me up to the club, and they personally escorted me and carried my luggage all the way to the club lounge for check-in. Whiskey away immediately and skipped the mess downstairs.

Recommend doing that if you ever find yourself here (or another busy conference hotel with a club) again.

I just approach the Concierge desk on the ground floor and tell them that I'm there to check in. They key in my name into the computer and swiftly escort me to the Club lounge for check in.

For upgrade, I do my homework by proactively emailing the property ahead of time to make such a request because we usually encounter a rookie at the FD which I don't want to depend on for upgrade. With at least 50 nights under my belt at this property, my upgrade ratio is 100%. I do the same with all my hotel stays across all brands.

Lounge check-in is IMO one of the most overrated "perks" there is. I'd just rather check-in at the front desk and get to my room faster.

I had a lovely check-in experience when I visited MMQP. Front desk agent could not have been friendlier or more welcoming. That's why I suspect 3rdworldresident's check-in experience may have been aberrational. Otherwise I completely agree with his commentary on this property.

Hmm, not convinced, but to each his/her own! I can speak (as can my partner) both Thai and English, and I'm not blown away by SGS service...and no matter the perks, the hard product is just too old for my liking. I'd rather forgo the perks and have a nicer room to relax in. After the tour of the SGS, the other half made it clear we were not staying...a bit harsh, but I did get the feeling it is over-hyped. Once you are known to the St Regis, they really do treat you well, and as an Ambassador, I've had regular upgrades to the 24 and 25 series Caroline Astor suites from regular rooms, as well as my preferred 02 series grand deluxe. The service is genuinely warm, there is a sophisticated ambience, and it is a near perfect location for my needs. Maybe one day I'll try the SGS, but yet to be convinced, and it would need to be a really good rate.

I'm not trying to convince anyone of anything. They are different properties. I like the hard product at StR, as well as the views of the Sports Club. At SGS, I like the different restaurants (and better Thai food), the jazz club (Living Room), and the spa. And I find the staff considerably warmer at SGS. The trade-off is dated room decor.

I wasn't suggesting you'd be the person to convince me either way, but thanks for the insights.

- not good arrival experience - waited in line for about 5 mins (no other guest before me) before someone came to help. no recognition of elite status at all. no late check-out offered, need to ask for it. they just handed me a sheet of club lounge benefit and a pair of key cards and pointed me to the elevator bank of south tower. that’s it. maybe i should adjust my expectation to match hotel of this size (and also marriott’s way of treating elite customers).
- hotel ground looks nice. they did a good job on renovation.
- no suite upgrade, just a club room on 27th floor near club lounge. didn’t ask or push anything because it’s just me for a short staycation. while the room was nice, it is not as big as other 5-star hotels in Bangkok. it’s cramped actually, also low ceiling. very small bathroom and no bathtub.
- no turndown service provided. (Didn’t need it anyway, just noticed that it was advertised)
- club lounge and staffs were very nice. pretty impressive F&B offering in the evening, just okay for breakfast. a bit crowded in the evening, more relaxing in the morning (as expected). however, quality doesn’t match quantity, ex. cheap meat, cheap wine.
- spotted a LOT of working lady in the hotel, including in the club lounge.
- nothing memeorable with departure experience.

Overall, an OK stay in a good 4-star conference hotel. it’s quite cheap and you’ll get what you pay for. However it’s just not my preference.

Next staycation in Bangkok, i’ll stick with legacy SPG options like the athenee (same owner of this hotel but in a different league above) or SGS.
Your experience is rather unusual.
I am always recognised as an elite even when checking in at the front desk area. I sometimes do need to wait a while but that's because there r other people also checking in.
Always had gotten a suite upgrade here so far.

Similar experience to the above but I see that other elite members get vastly different treatment (i.e suite upgrade etc etc).

Wonder whether the hotel also looks at something other than elite status like perhaps the rate at which you had booked (pre-paid vs member rate?) in deciding whether to provide suite upgrades.

Maybe they were sold out of suites. Or you got the same FDA as thirdworldresident.

Maybe I am getting my facts mixed up, but I thought Le Meridien was the same owner as Athenee, not MM. Or is it same owner for all 3?
