JW Marriott Chengdu China [Master Thread]

Hotel website:

http://www.marriott.com/hotels/trave...hotel-chengdu/

Category 3. Website says it has exec lounge but doesn't say if it's open daily. Since it's China my assumption is that it is open. But here's something you don't normally see on the exec lounge description, especially in Asia: "expanded a la carte menu (for purchase)". Do we think that makes the lounge a M Lounge?

Hotel description:

"The symbol of Chengdu, Tianfu Square, is now home to a symbol of luxury. The JW Marriott Hotel Chengdu brings refined style, culturally inspired cuisine and holistic wellbeing to southwest China’s largest city square. Guest rooms and suites are approachably elegant with warm, modern decor and spacious bathrooms. Dining celebrates local flavors, offering an elevated take on the traditional food found along Chunxi Road, Chengdu’s busiest street.

Eight meeting rooms include the 10,398-square-foot Grand Ballroom, featuring its own pre-function foyer, roof garden and space for up to 800 guests. Wellness takes a mind-body approach with a state-of-the-art fitness center, indoor swimming pool and Spa by JW.

While the hotel is firmly planted in the present, opportunities to explore the past abound at the nearby Wuhou Temple, Kuan (Wide) and Zhai (Narrow) alleys, Wenshu Yuan Monastery, Jinli Street, Chengdu Museum and Sichuan Provincial Library."

Interesting. Although not sure I understand the logic of opening a very high-end looking JWM at almost exactly the same price point a few minutes away from the nearly new RC (and also St. Regis post-merger). Chengdu is seeing an absolute explosion of high-end chains lately, a WA is also opening in a few months it seems.

Stayed there in June. Excellent location. The service was top notch. Breakfast at the restaurant was excellent. I got upgraded to a top floor room as a Gold. I heard Plt member will be upgraded to a suite.

Just finished a five-night stay on points here are my initial impressions

Adding links for some pictures of hotel and suite

Check-in

We arranged for a Hotel car. This was overkill but we had been traveling for 36 hours and having someone meet us outside of the customs hall was worth the price. I think that Taxis were around 60 RMB.

The Hotel lobby was on the 8th floor and check-in was Excellent and quick. We had an early arrival from SFO and requested and received early check-in.

I have attached the welcome letter which outlines the Plat benefits

Room

We had a nice upgrade. Low floor but having the extra size was worth it.

Lounge

A very large and well-appointed lounge.

Breakfast had a made to order egg/Omelet or Noodle station. Wide selection of fruit. For the hot items about 75% were geared to the Chinese guest. The Lounge staff was exceptional very eager to please and knew our names after the first visit. Some language issues but nothing that couldn’t be overcome

Happy hour. A decent selection along with the noodle station. Hard liquor was a bit limited but the wine and beer were decent.

Restaurants

We were also given the option of eating breakfast at the Hotel restaurant the Table. We did this a couple of times but found the lounge much quieter.

We also had a Dim Sum lunch at Man Ho was surprisingly crowded and the very good. They had a window to the kitchen and there must have been half a dozen chefs knocking out made to order Dim Sum. Price was reasonable by hotel standards. Unlimited Dim Sum for $20

Check out

Probably the fastest I had in China. I had a bunch of extra RMB and applied that to my bill. Even with that wrinkle the checkout process took a max of 10 minutes.

Also, a note on ATM there is a Bank of China ATM in the 1st floor entrance which I had no problem pulling RMB.

I stayed last week and had the same experience. I was impressed by the location, room, and most of all the staff was amazing. The girls in the Lounge really provided top notch personal service. One of the best Marriott experiences I have had.
