SPG to Korean SkyPass transfer taking 10+ days

First time trying to transfer from SPG to Korean Air, and it has been ~12 days with nada in my SkyPass account. Email said should take 7-10 days. First time transferring SPG --> SkyPass.

Has this happened to anyone before? Any issues that might be causing this? Will contact SPG next to see what the situation is.

Welcome.

Based on information in this thread it shouldn't take that long, but each case is different.

FAQ: How long for SPG points to transfer TO an airline; and between SPG accounts ?

My apologies for any delay. I posted this yesterday.

Same here. 13 + days. Third time transferring to Korean Air (but first time with issues). Two prior transfers took ~ 48 hours. Something fishy!

Update: The starpoints were eventually returned to my SPG account.

I had the same problem recently. It was because of a name mismatch between my SPG and korean air account.

SPG was Firstname MiddleInitial LastName
Korean was Firstname Middlename LastName

Did you match the names and re-transfer? If so was it successful?

Update: Removed middle name from SPG profile, and re-initiated transfer. Transfer completed and successfully received in 1 day. :D

Thanks everyone for the advice! The points were returned to my SPG account eventually. I updated my name on my SPG account and hopefully the transfer will go through now!

Issue with Transfer to KE (Korean Air)

I initiated an SPG point transfer on 2/28 to KE. Transfer time was noted to be 7-10 business days, and the points still have not shown up in SkyPass. After tweeting with SPG, they suggested that the name may be a problem.

While KE has FIRST NAME MIDDLE NAME LAST NAME in my profile, SPG's system only supports MIDDLE INITIAL in their system.

Frustration with SPG aside, has anyone else experienced an issue like this? Are my points somewhere in SkyPass' system just unable to credit to my account?

Has anyone had a similar experience and if so, how did you resolve it?

Probably anyone who has added their middle name to their Korean Air Skypass account has run into this issue.

While SPG doesn't have a middle name field, but has a space for a middle initial, we've learned that a Korean Air Skypass account has neither. If you want to add a middle name, you have to add it to the first name field, thusly:

First name: William Robert Last name: Sanders

If your SPG account is set up this same way, with the middle name in the first name field and no initial in the initial field, then you probably won't have an issue.

However, if your SPG account is set up as:

First name: William Middle Initial: R. Last name: Sanders, then Korean Air is going to deny the transfer because the names don't match exactly.

My best advice would be to remove the middle names and/or initials from both accounts so they match exactly:

First name: William Last name: Sanders

I hope this helps.

Thanks, William. I've been working with your Twitter team to try and resolve this.

In the mean time, is there anything I can do? My points have been deducted on your end (on 2/28) and they're not in KE. Surely, I'm not going to lose them... right?

No, you won't lose them, but it takes us requesting an airline transfer follow up so the denial can be properly documented. I'm assuming that the Twitter team - the same team that I am on, by the way - has begun that process for you. Once that is done, Program Services will cancel the award and return the Starpoints. It can take 5 - 7 business days with international carriers to wrap it up entirely.

But, before you try again, I recommend having that name match exactly on both accounts. ;)

I had a similar issue.

I have my korean air account with my full name (first middle lady and suffix). To match with SPG they made my first name and middle name as one. Left the middle initial blank.

Once I made this change it all worked. Just in time for a flight.

My my first request was rejected and it took about 3 weeks for the whole rejection and return of the miles to the account.

There re needs to be a bettter way that is seamless and faster. Chase ultimate rewards transfers are instant.
