Earlier this year I booked a stay for Memorial Weekend at the W on points. After reading some reviews here I decided to cancel in March and switch to the Ritz.
Get back from the trip and I have a charge for $161.52 from the W. We never set foot in there and my bank says it was a remote/online charge. It appears I was charged a no-show fee despite canceling well in advance.
Called the hotel and they confirmed thats why I was charged and that they could see I had canceled so it shouldnt have happened. Guy on the phone was very nice but said since it had been "closed out" he would need to have the hotel accounting department handle it.
I'm hoping this is an easy fix, but when the accounting department is involved it never seems to be.

Hurrah and glad the accounting team got that fixed for you. This sounds like the issue last year where folks would reserve and cancel in advance but the reservation never properly went canceled in Marriott's system leading to many erroneous 1 night charges.
