I'm not sure how (or if) this affects the W Las Vegas, but the SLS Las Vegas has been sold, pending regulatory approval.

One night stay for work. I typically do not like W hotels, but for one night it was a little cheaper than the Westin and I'm trying to get stay credits. My $89/night stay ended up around $150 with the obscene $35 resort fee, but, welcome to Vegas.

Got a nice upgrade as a gold. The room was, to my taste, tacky, but the tv was excellent, as was the bed, and the internet was great. Other than briefly worrying whether the mirror above the bed was adequately secured, it was a nonissue. Shower and fixtures were very nice. Didn't eat at the hotel, and wasn't there to swim, so can't comment on those things.

When I'm in Vegas for work, I prefer the non-resort hotels and though this is connected to the SLS, it feels separate if you want it to be. Very easy drive up (though uber drivers are confused it's back there), right to the front desk and the elevators right there. The room numbering is bizarre (my room on the 24th floor started with a "22," or maybe it was the other way around), but I figured it out eventually. I asked for change at the front desk in the morning for a $100 and they acted surprised that anyone actually uses paper money any more, so I had to walk over to the SLS casino cage. But they were nice about it.

All in all, it was a fine stay, and it's good to have another SPG option in Vegas I guess.

Stayed here recently for work. It's a bit hidden down the strip. Tough to find. When you do get there it's a nice oasis. Feels more intimate than most vegas hotels. Beautiful lobby. Nice pool. But all on a smaller scale.

The rooms are crazy and interesting. Almost bizarre. But I enjoyed that. As a Platinum I was upgraded to a huge suite. Very nice gesture.

They also brought up a bottle of wine. Great treatment. And friendly staff.

Stayed here over the weekend. It's not a bad property and for the time I was there it was 1/2 the cost of the Cosmopolitan and 1/3rd of the cost of the Encore (non-Marriott). Those are better options for someone wanting to do the strip, but at the price points I faced I was happy with the W.

I liaised with the hotel's Insider to sort me out with an in-room haircut after a late arrival. Romeo was the first ever W insider who I ever found useful and he also arranged for my first ever US suite upgrade to a Mega Suite, despite my SNAs not clearing. Good job. Room was large and perfectly suitable, though definitely not aiming at the same bling levels of W's in Barcelona, London and South Beach.

It is very much a "hotel within a hotel" and I can't see how it could operate without the SLS. It will be interesting to see if they keep it open when the SLS goes, but I wouldn't be surprised if this has a limited lifespan. The SLS facilities are used extensively by the W, although beware that it appears that SLS spend might not count as "hotel spend" as I guess technically it's not - I'm querying that at the moment.

It was nice having a private chill out pool as an option in addition to the SLS Foxtail pool club, and the SLS had a selection of restaurants and bars, though it felt like a hotel that hadn't really been successful with its ambition. Would return again if better options were priced high.

What's this about - is the SLS closing/leaving Marriott? It's no secret that it's been struggling since it reopened and it got sold in May, but are there other updates about that?

I remember someone here mentioning that it was closing, but all I can find online now is that it's been sold to a new owner.

July 20th has come and gone and the W is still listed on the master directory as a W property. The notice of it leaving the brand have been removed from the hotel's webpage, and the only mention of any changes I've found online are an article from earlier this month about the whole resort being planned to undergo a total rebranding from the SLS/W to the Grand Sahara, in a similar vein to owner Alex Meruelo's Grand Sierra in Reno.

SLS/W still confuses me -- it's a mediocre to good hotel (old, but recently refurbished) in a bad location (except during conventions) and a tiny casino but with amazing F&B.

You'll pay for it, but I think the go-forward solution for ex-SPGers is the Cosmopolitan...loved my experience there last year

Yeah, I'll probably keep staying at Caesar's since I have (founderscard) Diamond. Otherwise, Element and Four Points because they're firearms-friendly, which is my biggest problem with LV Strip now (as I go for firearms classes.)
