The SLS Las Vegas, a Tribute Portfolio Resort will be leaving Marriott on August 17, 2018. Reservations for dates on or after August 17, 2018, will not be eligible for Starwood Preferred Guest membership benefits, award redemption or accrual.

Not really. Why would you use points on any slow night in Las Vegas when the rates are low? Las Vegas rates vary by a very large margin and it only makes sense to use points at practically any Las Vegas hotel only when the rates are high.

I suppose it will be able to keep a higher category when everything gets converted to Marriott but will eventually fall in categories.

Agreed. $59 is lower than you'll find any other SPG property in the area including the Four Points (Cat 1). Even factoring in the $29 SLS resort fee, it's the lowest priced SPG property on many days.

Sorry but we do not have information about the alternative Platinum amenity.
If you have not been offered an alternative Platinum amenity to complimentary HSIA included in their resort charge, please let us know and we will follow up with the relevant team.

I just made a reservation here for a one-night stay in March before moving to a different hotel. Just wanted to see what the changes were from the Sahara and have dinner at Bazaar Meats, shake the gambling gods up a bit.
They are offering Triple SPG points right now and decent introductory rates.
One "benefit" of the resort fee is free shuttle to/from the airport...be aware it only runs once an hour, and ONLY from Terminal 1. We use the new Terminal 3 (Alaska, United, Jet Blue, International) so no use to us at all, but might be for someone else.

1) If you only have carry-on bags, take the automated people mover to T1. If you land at the E gates, you'll need to ride it to the D gates and then get on a different one to T1. If you arrive at the D gates, you will have a choice to take a people mover to either T1 or T3; you'll want to take the one that goes to T1. Coming down the escalator from the D gates, the left side people movers go to T1.
2) If you've got checked luggage, you'll need to go to the T3 baggage claim. You can catch a free bus outside that goes between T1 and T3.
I assume that since you live in EUG, you'll likely fly Alaska airlines - that should put you in the E gates (terminal 3) so you'd either take two people movers or the interterminal bus.
Got a trip report?

Glad to see this hotel now online with SPG but I've noticed that the hotel website mentions all 1600 rooms and three towers as part of the SLS rather than the initial announcement of 1200+ rooms as part of the SLS and LUX Tower rebranding under the W banner. There was also a press release yesterday announcing the hotel as part of SPG and there was no mention of the forthcoming W.
Is it still moving forward or delayed/put off?

Anybody done a successful Best Rate Guarantee here yet? I assume that Tribute hotels have to abide by the same rules as every other SPG hotel.
I have easily found lower rates for a night or two in January, but the so-called "flexible" rate on spg.com involves pre-payment. I'm not really in the mood to have my card charged and then have to fight for a refund either if the claim is approved (lower rate) or if it is denied and I stay elsewhere...

iflyjetz, you would really do all that for a shuttle you might just miss and have to wait 55 minutes for? I'd rather walk outside my own terminal (which for AS is 3, never heard of E at McCarron) and take a taxi.
Oh, I see, you were referring to the E Gates/Concourse within Terminal 3.

It is not as complicated as it sounds. The people mover takes a couple minutes. The shuttle departs the airport on the half hour. If my flight is on time that will work out fine for me.
That said, you can use the promo code 72MMA using your SPG AMEX (or any other AMEX) on SuperShuttle to give you $3 off bringing the fare down to $8 each way. Lyft and Uber also both serve the airport now.

Glad it works for you, we're renting a car anyway since we are changing hotels and we need to go some other places, I was just providing the shuttle information for those who didn't know about it.

From E gates, go down escalator to people mover to D gates.
Ride people mover.
After getting off people mover, go toward the information booth in front of the escalators.
Turn right 90 degrees to get on other people mover that will take you to terminal 1.
Total time spent from E gates to terminal 1: less than 10 minutes.
Better solution: just take SuperShuttle/Lyft/Uber now that there's competition to the Vegas taxi mafia. I haven't tried SuperShuttle/Lyft/Uber because I always get a car, but the Vegas taxis have been notorious for fleecing tourists.
Edit: I also fixed the E gates/terminal 3 issue in my original post. Sorry about that Eujeanie.
