FYI - there is also a taxi window with fixed prices downstairs (handy if you have luggage) - if you walk past the escalator toward the local city bus stops. I believe the prices are exactly the same as upstairs (not sure if it is open 24 hours)

Has anyone stayed at this property recently? Is it still a top hotel in KL in terms of service, location and price?

Thumbs up

I have stayed at this property and was impressed. It wasn't perfect, but the platinum upgrade to a suite with an incredible view from the bathtub made me forget about the few service hiccups.

Platinum room upgrades to suites are unlikely at this hotel, even though the last writer reports a suite upgrade success. Upgrades to the Residence Tower (apartments) is off limits though the hotel often will ask if you are willing to pay for the upgrade ~$US50 to a one bedroom apartment.

Apart from that Platinum's have access to the Executive Lounge where you can see parts of the Twin Towers, with most of it now obstructed by the Pavillion Residences (which is on top of the Pavillion Department Shopping Centre). Food choices in the lounge are above average with cocktail hour and breakfast, however Platinum's can also choose to enjoy the buffet breakfast downstairs which is also complimentary.

Location can't be beaten, two upscale department stores literally metres away from the hotel's entrance. Restaurants, bars and everything else you want in the heart of Kuala Lumpur is at your doorstep.

Service levels? Passed in my books but then again I'm not fussy at all.

I was at the Westin in July for a few nights and was upgraded to a very large suite. They gave me the option of waiting for a non smoking suite to be cleaned or a smoking room suite immediately. Even though a non smoker, took the smoking suite as we had too much luggage that we wanted to immediately unload in the room (tail end of a three week holiday).

I liked the hotel, especially the location for a first or second time visitor to KL. Did not use the lounge at all (aside from the check in), and the buffet breakfast was quite good.

I have been there 3 times, last about a year ago. Location is great. Each time as a plat, I was upgraded to a large suite.

I would return.

I beg to differ .
I have received complimentary upgrades to both hotel suites and 1 bedroom residence tower suites on several occasions at this hotel .

That's fine. (I know its not much but) my experiences is different as I have never been upgraded to a suite in my last 6 stays. I enjoy the location so I will be back in a few weeks time so hopefully I will get a suite or an apartment that you speak of

Question: Airport Transfer

What's the best way to go to the hotel from the KUL airport, vice versa.

I am arriving into KUL at 10 PM and leaving from KUL at 6:30 PM. Should I expect traffic jam at those hours? Thank you!

At 6.30pm? Absolutely. You'll need to make your way out of downtown KL by 5pm to be safe.
