Oops
The Sheraton should be renovated by now. Wonder how much that place is? I would still stick with the Hilton if pricing is better.
|
Hilton cheapest at $110 vs Westin at 180. No brainer, go with Hilton ?
|
Things aren't peachy at the Hilton(actually the description of the Westin sounds suspiciously like the Hilton in Guam, don't stay at the Hilton you will be sad that you did).......perhaps you should just connect to Palau :D !

Also, what are the Royal Beach Club rooms and lounge like at the Westin? |
Neg the Westin, stay at the Sheraton ...
We booked a 10 night stay at the Westin for Golden Week, but we left after one night and checked into the Sheraton Laguna Guam.
The Westin is old and tired and a terrible representation of the brand. The staff seemed nice enough, but the hotel itself is in desperate need of work. IMHO -- it should not carry the Westin name which I associate with premium 4 and 5 star experiences. This is definately not up to scratch. With the newly renovated Sheraton down the beach -- there is zero reason for Starwood fans and SPG-files to stay there. |
Any recent experiences with the lounge? The rates at the Westin are usually higher, sometimes much higher, than the Sheraton. :(
Thanks. |

Thanks. As noted, the staffs at the lounge are careless; they don't even acknowledge you when you walk in. The Royal Beach Club lounge is on 21st floor and open from 6am-10pm. The breakfast hrs are 7-10am and evening cocktail hrs are 5-7pm. Lastly the top floor, 21st floor, is Royal Beach Club floor with access to the club lounge. At least for the club privilege, it's not worth the extra $. Here are some pictures of the property - https://picasaweb.google.com/dshahn96/WestinGuam# Lastly, the internet charge is not removed automatically so you have to ask to remove it during the check-out. |
Good pics. Thanks!
I was there in Oct. I liked the Sheraton much more than the Westin. :) |

Thanks for the tips. I'll stay at the Sheraton.

I've had a couple recent stays at the Westin (and at the Hilton: year end stay accumulation at work). I'm SPG Plat and HH Diamond. I don't understand the disdain for the Westin.
The short-side facing the beach problem is a near-universal hotel stupid trick. It's true of the Marriott Guam - visible from both the Hilton and the Westin, btw. I accept it but don't admire it. Otherwise, the Westin is generally comparable to the Sheraton Maui and Royal Hawaiian, but for scale: it's much smaller, and I take that as a good thing. Furniture quality, nature of finishes, room size: it's appropriate for a Westin. A few staff could use retraining but the majority were service-oriented and enthusiastic. I got room upgrades - the xx16 rooms are closest to the water and have good views as Premier Oceanfront or something like that. Balcony. Separate shower and tub. 40 or 42" Philips LCD and 30 or more channels. Effective and quiet A/C. Royal Beach Club 21st-floor lounge access. Decent breakfast selections. Internet charges removed from room bills without mentioning it. Pools and beachside areas had plenty of seating capacity even at peak times on sold-out dates. Separately, in-room internet is cable. Lobby had wifi and was predictably the iPad and Skype-calling ghetto. The rate comparison between Westin and Hilton upthread is old but as I sit at the Hilton (a tired property, bordering on dingy even in some public areas, and rooms even in the newer Premiere Tower could pass for a feeble U.S. Four Points) I would happily pay $60 more a night for the Westin. |
any recent experiences, esp. Plat. ?
Is their snorkeling available from the beach? |

Great Platinum recognition. Always given a suite. As Platinum, picked me up and dropped me off at the airport and on time. Friendly check-in. Lounge food could be improved. Also, disappointed that pastries were not served from 8 pm - 10 p.m. as expected. Friendly staff. Lovely suite. Unfortunately no Wi-Fi in room. Look forward to going back.

Bump. Any updates?
