Renaissance New York City Midtown [Master Thread]
What's not to like about "a hidden DJ booth"?
"The 348 individual guest rooms (including seven Executive Suites and one Celebrity Suite) will feature signature Wanderlust design accents, including floor-to-ceiling windows and the juxtaposition of concrete to wood in the decor, [...] A gradient frosted-glass shower wall will separate the all-white Italian marble en-suite bathroom from the sleeping area."
[...]
"[T]he Club Lounge, a special haven reserved for Elite Marriot Rewards members and preferred guests. The design will combine contemporary furniture, modern high-tech amenities and feature wall art that transforms functional components of the fashion trade such as push pins and high heels into complex masterpieces."

Renaissance New York City Midtown
Cat 8. Opens March 2016. Lobby & exec lounge is on the 6th floor.
Press release reads like one of Ian Schrager's people wrote it LOL.
The outdoor terrace sounds pretty cool though.
Outdoor Space:
The Renaissance New York Midtown Hotel will offer the largest outdoor space in all of Manhattan. At 8,000 square-feet, the fifth floor terrace will boast a retractable roof, private cabanas, comfortable seating and two fully-stocked bars. The hotel will also offer a number of terrace suites with abundant outdoor space. Guests and New Yorkers alike will have a new place to see and be seen.
Alas, it's got the frosted glass wall btwn bathroom & bedroom (and odds are no desk).

Renaissance New York Midtown Hotel is opening March 2016, according to Marriott.com:
http://www.marriott.com/hotels/trave...midtown-hotel/
Marriott Rewards category is 8.
Address is 218 West 35th Street New York New York 10001 USA.
It looks promising, but being the "first digitally enhanced hotel" seems like a gimmick.

We were probably posting at the same time. I just started a thread on this as well, with information re: Cat, lobby & lounge location, etc. Looks like Bruce has merge the 2 threads already! More details from the Marriott press release & the hotel website in my post a couple of posts above.
Cheers.

Wow - exclamations on a yawn w/ no explanation for the yawn. Is it because it's another property, the location, the new digital aspect of it including some things that haven't been done before, the 8,000 sq ft outdoor terrace w/ private cabanas? What specifically is the yawn supposed to be about?
Cheers.

MOD: It would probably be worthwhile to change the name of this thread to "Renaissance New York Midtown Hotel" (the actual hotel name) instead of "A New Renaissance Flagship For Midtown NYC" (a point-in-time news item). It's likely there will be a fair amount of discussion about this hotel once it opens.

That's a super convenient location with great transit access.
Looks like a nice addition to the Marriott portfolio.

The lower midtown area (mid-upper 30's) seems to be a hotbed of lodging activity in the last couple of years. It may not be the best location if you are going to NYC to see a show but it gets you away from the swarming hoards of people in the Times Square area.

It's great for access to Penn Station for airport transit. Not to mention an easy walk to Flatiron district or Second Ave. Deli

I walked by the hotel over the weekend. While the overall location is great, that block of 35th street is a dump. No redeeming value whatsoever. But I guess once you walk one block in either direction, you're fine.
