Coming in from the balcony in the corner we noticed this-
.

Which led to this-
.
And another balcony with a slightly different view.
..
We had been upgraded to one of the 2 Ocean suites. As they can sleep 5 there was 5 of everything.
..

Although no lounge there were free drinks for plats for an hour in the Sunset bar.
Now there is a lounge in the South Tower but it is not a CL and no complimentary alcohol there. Those staying in the South tower with JTB status come over to the Sunset bar for happy hour.
The free lunch buffet is instead of the breakfast buffet not additional.Only available to those who have booked a breakfast included rate.As a plat complimentary breakfast buffet.
They do treat you well.Plats also get a Free Resort Pass for watersports and indoor pool, beach towels and lounges but you must show your room key.

The bathroom was the best we have seen. The shower next to the bath in typical Japanese style. This had a rainshower and hand held shower.
.

With a seat and shelving making it easy for us oldies.
.

And the simplest of operation.Dial up the temperature you want then just push a button for which type of shower or to fill the bath.Press again to finish.

Complimentary brekkie in the restaurant. A reasonable selection of hot dishes.
.

..

And reasonable fruit. The melon in Japan is so much better than we get at home.really sweet.
.

The top dish was Bircher muesli but not as we know it Jim.

Some unusual things.
.

But mainly all the usual stuff.
.
We ate in.On the day of arrival we just had a pizza through In Room Dining.
There are now 2 restaurants open. You have to walk through the buffet restaurant,Senses, to get to the Grill a little more upmarket. We went there for the second night as they have Okinawan mud crabon the menu.Identical to our Queensland muddies.
.

One each. The staff didn't think we could finish them. Well.
.

.
One funny incident.Mud crabs have really tough shells. At one point I managed to break the cracker with empty shell taking off much to the amusement of the group sitting near us.However a tiny bit of shell pierced my thumb.must have hit a little blood vessel as it sure bled.Staff concerned and asked me if I wanted to be taken to hospital. No way just bring a band aid and I will finish off this crab. The price was reasonable.8000 yen for each crab but a 20% discount fot plats.

The last night we had the buffet. It is not great and is normally 4000 yen.But over 65s get it for 2800 yen and then the 20% taken off so that made it reasonable.
We really enjoyed our stay though the weather wasn't great with Typhoon Trami approaching.

How does this compare with the Marriott Resort further north?

I am here now, very impressed, normally renovated old resorts don't go well but this is good solid 4 start Japan, geijin friendly . Good location for exploring the more interesting north of the island,

The Marriott looks dismal in comparison, not even on the beach, why go to Okinawa if not on the beach !!

I recommend this place, not spectacular but they do a good solid job and no communication issues, and response to request were incredibly fast , I used the app to request a different pillow and I think it took 5 mins max !

Only complaint is that the Japanese bath water temp is too cool

Got back from a 5 night stay on 220,000 points. Still high season in Japan, and paid rates (for four) were around ¥60,000 for regular rooms in the Main Tower and ¥150,000 for South Tower.

Check-in was a bit slow and they handed me a bilingual list of Bonvoy Elite benefits but didn't explain much. They then said I would be charged ¥24,000 a night for two extra beds. I said the beds weren't necessary and they got confused and told me they were already in the room. In the end they left them there the first night, then took the sheets away for nights 3 and 4 (beds actually stayed in room-one was a trundle, one a sofa). We were "upgraded" to a high floor deluxe which had a nice view but wasn't all that big (32sqm, like 80% of the rooms in the main building), so a bit disappointing.

There was no "thank you Mr Titanium, what gift would you like?" question. I automatically got 1,000 points plus two small boxes of beniimo snacks (in room already).

On the second day I checked the app and then requested an upgrade to the South Tower. They said it would be possible for nights 4&5. Those rooms were fitted for 4 without extra charge, and the minibar comes stocked with about 8 drinks (no restocking). Also free soft drinks in entranceway lounge. South Tower rooms are practically new (2020), huge and really nice. There are also a lot of USB ports, unlike the older main tower. One weird thing was the room door was very hard to open at times due to wind/air pressure. On the plus side the room was very quiet.

Happy hour at the Sunset bar was a madhouse the first few days as hotel was at full capacity. Cheap wine and spirits, draft beer and soft drinks. No food. The last couple days it was fairly relaxing.
The JCB lounge looked like what I normally experience at a Sheraton/Marriott/Westin.

The two big benefits of Plat+ status are free breakfast for all guests in room, and resort passes. The breakfast was quite good, though the first two days were had to leave due to a diving course and only had time for a coffee and bagging some bread to go. There is free parking for elites, and ambassadors get special reserved parking closer to the entrance.

The resort pass means you get beach umbrellas/towels/chairs/indoor&outdoor pool/paddle boats and kayaks, all for free. Odd rules about beach usage mean you can use goggles to look at fish, but if you have a snorkel you must have a life vest (¥500/day). There are a fair number of nice fish there. Restrictions on kayaks mean you can't go very far.

Pools were madhouses most of the time. So many little kids. Water was quite warm, over 30C I think. Zipline was also busy all day long. The gym is small but decent and has a great view of the beach. There is also a very popular large public bath and sauna. Segregated by sex, though don't be surprised if you see a few girls (up to age 6) with their fathers and brothers.

We chose the eco plan and got ¥2,000/day for three days of no service. We wanted to book The Grill, but it was full every day so we could only do Senses buffet.

It is really a family-friendly hotel, and the target age for kids is probably 6-12. There is free table tennis and a pool table, and paid activities like painting.

A fortune can be spent on extras like banana boats/water skis/ziplines etc. We had a car and made roadtrips all over the middle and northern part of the island.

I am basically happy with the stay, but I am not sure if I would stay again unless it was off-season and fewer total points and a guaranteed South Tower room.

Thank you Marriott Bonvoy Lurker II

Just back from a 3 night stay here which was booked on points. Nothing specific to complain about, but being shoulder season, it wasn't very hot, so kind of limited what could be done in the hotel with a 1 year old (although of course, this isn't the hotel's fault).

If anyone has any questions, please do reach out.
