Seclusion Day Information: March 21, 2015 and March 9, 2016

Nyepi, known as the Day of Silence, marks the celebration of the Balinese New Year in the Hindu Lunar calendar. A spectacular procedure of ceremonies, parades of great bamboo monsters, and fireworks occur on the Eve of Nyepi, followed by a day of total silence and seclusion. The community strongly believes that if the island is silent and dark, the bad spirits will leave and the new year will start in peace. During Nyepi, from 6am until 6am the next day, the island stops. Nobody is allowed in the streets, use of electricity is restricted, and the international airport is closed.

In 2015, Nyepi will fall on Saturday, March 21 and Wednesday, March 9 in 2016. Please note that check-in and check-out will not be possible on Nyepi Day, and Ngurah Rai International Airport (DPS) will be closed. Some of the resort facilities will operate as usual; however, there will be no transportation services to and from the resort, and televisions will not be available. Lights will be dimmed inside and there will be no outdoor lighting. Our pools and garden areas will still be accessible except for the beach. Only indoor seating will be available at Arwana Restaurant. Cascade Bar and Sapphire bar will close at 6pm. Kul Kul Bar will remain closed.

We kindly invite you to respect this sacred day and observe these restrictions. Normal activity in Bali will resume at 6am on Sunday, March 22, 2015 and Thursday, March 10 in 2016.

In the four times I have been there I was never given complimentary airport transfer - however they often have deals that include airport transfers (whether or not you are plat) which sometimes are great deals so be sure to watch out for those when you book!

Thanks. I think I saw a deal awhile back that included transfers however using points on this award so I'll just book through the concierge.

It's expensive by Bali standards but if champagne or good wine is included, that could justify the cost. Wine seems incredibly expensive on Bali. Even local Indonesian wine isn't at all cheap.

NOTE: The Laguna Nusa Dua only has 13 executive suites on the property and over 200 rooms overall. The executive suite level is the only one that qualifies for a Platinum upgrade. Not the ocean view suites or anything above that.

In my half dozen stays here, I've only ever been upgraded once.

If you need a suite, you're much better off staying in the Westin next door.

FYI.

I'm here now, plat with Starwood and got an "upgrade" to 4th floor Spg Floor, no ocean or pool view. There is a Sunday beach BBQ that costs 480,000 IDR, including beer, soft drinks, tea. That seems a bit steep but there is all the lobster, crab, shrimp, etc., that you can eat. I asked about airport transfer and it seems that it is $25 USD + fees?? when booked through hotel. If the taxi is already here or if you call the taxi yourself, it is about half the hotel cost. Will know more about that tomorrow. We also got 15% off food which they forgot on the bill but had it corrected at the desk I believe that is available for all SPG members

Good info, thanks! I will be curious what the taxi back to the airport costs you.

Was breakfast included, or did you have to select that as your welcome amenity?

5 nights in November excellent slow due to volcano ash events. All top management made it a point to greet us and remained very helpful throughout our stay. Suites Reward, lovely suite, pool view, few rooms have ocean front. Beach nice at high tide. Food was great, and reasonably priced. Nice spa and fitness room. SPG 15% discount on both. Excellent management. Hindi temple on grounds with a celebration while there.
