Seclusion Day Information: March 21, 2015 and March 9, 2016

Nyepi, known as the Day of Silence, marks the celebration of the Balinese New Year in the Hindu Lunar calendar. A spectacular procedure of ceremonies, parades of great bamboo monsters, and fireworks occur on the Eve of Nyepi, followed by a day of total silence and seclusion. The community strongly believes that if the island is silent and dark, the bad spirits will leave and the new year will start in peace. During Nyepi, from 6am until 6am the next day, the island stops. Nobody is allowed in the streets, use of electricity is restricted, and the international airport is closed.

In 2015, Nyepi will fall on Saturday, March 21 and Wednesday, March 9 in 2016. Please note that check-in and check-out will not be possible on Nyepi Day, and Ngurah Rai International Airport (DPS) will be closed. Some of the resort facilities will operate as usual; however, there will be no transportation services to and from the resort, and televisions will not be available. Lights will be dimmed inside and there will be no outdoor lighting. Our pools and garden areas will still be accessible except for the beach. Only indoor seating will be available at Arwana Restaurant. Cascade Bar and Sapphire bar will close at 6pm. Kul Kul Bar will remain closed.

We kindly invite you to respect this sacred day and observe these restrictions. Normal activity in Bali will resume at 6am on Sunday, March 22, 2015 and Thursday, March 10 in 2016.

Compulsory New Year's Eve Dinner: December 31, 2015

On December 31, 2015, there is a compulsory New Years Eve dinner for all guests staying over this date. Rate starts from 250 USD per adult and 85 USD per child (6 to 12 years of age). Checkouts on December 31, 2015 are not permitted.

Guests are required to pay the additional charges directly to the hotel upon arrival. The hotel will contact guests prior to arrival regarding the mandatory charges and to provide additional information.

Just finished a 2 night stay at this former Sheraton property reflagged as a Luxury Collection property 2 years ago. The same owners who own the St. Regis also own this property, but this is one of the major similarities between the two properties. The other is that one can charge dinner at the St. Regis to the room at the Laguna.
Unlike the 5 year old St. Regis, this is a 22 year old property that was superior public areas but the rooms are not comfortable. My wife has trouble in the past few weeks going up and down stairs, but despite my request, we were assigned to a room that had a bathroom and the entrance that was 3 steps up from the living quarters. When we were shown the room, it became obvious that we could not manage the stairs or the 4 feet into the bathtub for a shower. We then were moved to another totally flat room when I suggested that perhaps we should go elsewhere that had a tiny dark bathroom (perhaps this is one of the rooms that someone described the bathroom as a cave). Dinner in the best restaurant was awful, as our gnoki were like bread that was soaked in water overnight, but breakfast was OK, but not outstanding. Yes, we were identified as a Life Platinum and a manager on duty came to visit us, and we were offered a voucher for two free spa treatments, and the small fruit plate described by a few guests arrived. We avoided eating at the hotel on the second night by returning to the St. Regis and eating at their ocean side restaurant, perhaps the finest restaurant in all of Indonesia.
Overall the public areas are wonderful, but in contrast, the rooms and hall ways needed to be to torn down and completely rebuilt.
My wife and I reviewed the pluses and minuses of the property and decided that we would not return to this property unless the guest rooms were replaced by more spacious, bright, better designed, and modern rooms.

IIRC this property has been a LC for more than two years. Some of the decor reflects the fairly simple Balinese style which might not impress everyone.

I can see how the setup of most rooms with the steps wouldn't be suitable for everyone; perhaps the website should warn people to request one of the few flat rooms if necessary.

My impression is that most or all of the Starwoods on Bali are owned/operated by the same entity. When I stayed at the Laguna, I overheard a conversation (at breakfast?) regarding plans for one of the hotels being built then.

Stayed here for 4 nights at the end of October. Our 3rd stay here this year. The new road to Nusa Dua makes it a breeze to get here from the airport but the new airport terminal remains slow at peak times.

Booked a Studio room (around USD190++) and used upgrade vouchers. The Laguna has not given us a free suite upgrade before or indeed a room upgrade from regular room to studio. We find the studio rooms a lot better than the regular rooms and can sometimes be cheaper. In the event our upgrade vouchers got us the suite.

We always ask for the top floor (4th floor) as the lower floors can be noisy and are more prone to damp issue.

Plat benefits remain free breakfast instead of the 500 points. You also get a one-time 20% discount at the spa...which meant my wife went once to a very quiet spa. She reckons it's a good spa, though. I think SPG members get 20% off food (possibly drinks as well, can't remember). Lifetime Gold members get a free one-hour massage on their first visit.

They've got a good gym with new equipment and friendly staff running it. Unlike a recent poster we had a very good meal (steak) at their seaside restaurant. Breakfasts in the main restaurant are also pretty good. The Melia hotel just down the sea walk (to the right) has a nice restaurant overlooking the beach with mediocre food but lovely setting. Buy one, get one free beers up to 7pm :-). The Bali Collection gathering of shops, spas and restaurants is quite a bit cheaper and the food quality seems to improve each year. Easy walk from the hotel.

Overall, the hotel continues to provide very good value IMHO.

Thyetus, very interesting promos you posted!

Does this mean these properties will be on Hot Escapes also next week or should we check for "SPG Hot Escape" rates on the website eventhough properties aren't listed on www.spghotescapes.com? I'm asking because normally these rates are only bookable for the next 6 weeks, and your offer is valid until end of Jan 2015.

Hi remymartin,

The offer is available to book on the hotel's website. Regarding the www.spghotescapes.com site, we are currently investigating the issue if the listing of participating hotels.

For the time being, I would recommend to go ahead and book the offer through the hotel's website to secure it. Click here to reserve your room.

If you have any further questions, feel free to PM.

Hi aussielori,

The executive suite is the standard suite for this hotel, thus it is part of the room upgrade for platinum members. However, do note that platinum upgrade to the best available room/standard suite is subject to availability upon check in.

No more HotEscapes?

Hotel seems to have been pulled from the SPG Hotescapes round this time. Yesterday price was a little bit over 120USD. Today it's back up to over 160 for all dates - I checked.
Sad...

Is it just me, or is the Laguna short on chairs near the pool? The Westin had more than enough, so there was never a wait for a chair. The Laguna seemed to always be packed. Anyone else notice this?
