I just went there and I did not honestly, I did not mind the fee as I got value from in. I think it included a $10 voucher, along with an hour of paddle boarding and yoga every day.
It was steep but but I used points for the room and it was a great hotel.

Why not have a resort fee of $400 and only charge $1 for the room? That way they don't have to give out too many points and those of us who don't to paddle board or yoga can feel even more annoyed. (In case you don't recognize sarcasm this is it)
IMO - the whole resort fee scam has gotten way out of hand and I've voted with my feet (err dollars).

I’m about to cancel an award stay for 3/9-14. Not sure if these go back as award inventory, but if they do and you want to time it, PM me in the next day or so.

Just got back yesterday from this property. Second time there. First time resort fee was $45. Last year was raised to $60 and now its up to $65. Parking is about the only real benefit to it. The rest is just that should be included anyway.

I recently stayed there under an award reservation, and the property, restaurants and service were absolutely wonderful.
My only beef was that after researching for a number of weeks I was unable to book 5 consecutive nights, as most Thu/Fri/Sat nights appear to be held back for cash sales. After I went ahead and booked a Sunday-Thursday 4 night weekday stay and began the trip, I was able to book a 5th night as they opened up unsold rooms to awards within a couple days of the weekend.
Several attempts (via Starwood and the hotel property) to exercise the "5th night free" benefit were unsuccessful, because the "inventory has to be available for all 5 nights simultaneously". It seems like a little bit of a bait-and-switch, but that's just how that property structures their award availability. Oh well.
It was worth 12,000 SPG points + US$65 a night, as the hotel was charging a whopping $750-850 a night (rate + taxes + fees) during my stay, but the upcoming increase to 20,000 SPG points + US$65 a night (as well as the current cash price) seems excessive for that property.

So I am thinking of doing a 4 night stay here in April, wanted to take advantage of my SPG points and I transferred a good chunk of my Marriott points over to SPG to be able to book a 4 night stay here before the price jumps. Mainly thinking for a couple days of scuba diving since i see there is an outfit right at the resort. I am going to start reading thru this thread but have read the last couple pages. It seems like this is a good deal at 12k points, the nights I am looking at are $700 a piece (yikes!!) Are there other deals on the island that might be better. Hadn't even considered traveling to GC until the whole points program merging and this came out as one of the hotels to book before the rise in points. advise, thoughts, etc.... just wanted to get an opinion from people who might have been there. Worth it?

Also, agree with other poster - do a 5 night stay to get the free night and make it an even better redemption.

I've been twice, both pre-renovation. The resort fee is a bit outrageous, but it's still a great value at 12k points if you are looking for a place with an amazing beach, crystal clear water, decent food with both casual and upscale options on the resort, and the ability to walk to restaurants, walk along 7 mile beach and find an awesome tiki bar. Pre renovation, the pools were great, the service was typical "Island time service" and the spa was decent. I thoroughly enjoyed both of my stays there. Platinum breakfast had a free continental or the buffet for an upcharge - breakfast was enjoyable there

Can't believe it but yes thank you, I didn't think of that right off the bat but I'm ever MORE excited now, that made it out to be 9,600 points per night and we get an extra day. We r looking to just arrive late and leave early so really it's an extra day but that is one more day of diving.
Uppereastsider: That's exactly what I'm looking for .we don't usually do beach vacations since we live on one but I wanted to do the nice resort, well locatef with diving office onsite kinda thing so I think this I great and I agree about the fee but in my head I'm looking at it like I'm paying 65 bucks a night only so it's all good plus I'm thinking we will use our CC for the $300 travel credit so it will basically cost us 25 bucks for 5 nights.
So excited about this. Flights weren't too bad either but will probably leave those for after the new year.

Dude.... BOOK IT AND DONT LOOK BACK! I was there in December and loved it. I just booked another 5 nights on points for November and may book another 5 for April for the hell of it.
Yea the resort fee is steep but there is some value there with free yoga and paddle boarding in the AM. The plat breakfast is awesome too. I think for $7 you can buy up to the full buffet, which is incredible.
One word if advice... at all restaurants, they include gratuity on the bill. It took me 3 nights to realize I was tipping like 40% on my meals. Hahah
