You misread what I posted. I said avoid doing it when the cruise ships are in town. It gets very crowded. Otherwise, I was suggesting it for the same reasons you cite.

Cheers,

Oops. Sorry about that. I thought you were saying it was not worth doing. Sorry about that.

It has been probably 10 years since we stayed here. If they still do it, the clay facial at the Hibiscus Spa at the hotel is not to be missed. I can highly recommend it to both men an women after the first day in the sun.

Has anyone experienced the bar at the Ritz as well as the Westin? I'm meeting folks for drinks (business contacts) while on vacation in a few weeks and thought one of the two might be a good spot.

Any reports of what they offer platinums in lieu of charging the resort fee for internet?

Just got back from a 5 day award stay there a couple weeks ago. We really enjoy it there.
Just called SPG about an award reservation over the holidays. I was told there were no points options for the period we were interested in...this despite the SPG website showing rooms available for cash for the same dates.

Which exact period would your holidays be?

Hi broadwayblue,

Thank you for the information.

I have reviewed hotel inventory. The standard room categories are fully sold out on 26th December, 2014 and there is a minimum length of stay applied for all rooms during this period.

Thanks for looking into it. But it was odd to be told that points awards were not available for that period (when I called over the weekend) when they did have rooms available for $799/night. Perhaps those $799 rooms are not considered standard? I was told about the 7 night stay requirement. Not the end of the world, I can find another option for that week.

Our apologies for the hassle you have gone through. Allow us to inform that the standard rooms at this property are the island view ones.

Westin - Grand Cayman

Staying here now - as an SPG Platinum we got upgraded to room 108 which is a great room steps away from the water. I did ask at the front desk about the alternative Platinum amenity and the person at the front didn't know what I was talking about.. she talked to a supervisor who also said they have never heard of an alternative amenity. I mentioned the resort fee being waived and the extra points but no dice... Wonder why they offer that to some but not others? A uniform policy would be much better.

Starwood Lurker(s),

Can you comment on what the policy would be at this hotel? I will be staying here in about 2 weeks as a Platinum member, and am curious what the policy should be.

Thanks!
