Maybe it is just a bit of a perspective trick due to the photo, but if that coffee table is anywhere near as close to the bed as it looks, I would literally die in the middle of the night.

Actually, the designers of that Buffalo property know exactly who uses that hotel...it's in an entertainment district, with the hockey arena (to which it is attached), the baseball field, the waterfront, the casino etc. I would estimate business travelers to be a small fraction of the guests. Even more so of guests selecting a two-bed room as the OP did.

that’s most unfortunate. I prefer to hide my suitcases and dirty laundry in the closet and drawers. I guess they are banking on one night stays.

Oxford City Centre Courtyard UK: the air conditioning control has a green light on that you could read by. It lights the room up. We have covered it with plasters before ! It’s right near the beds. Why not put it in the entrance ?

HA! the table is nowhere near the bed. further i was taking the pic from the bathroom door so you had to walk towards the window and turn to go to the bathroom...nowhere near the small coffee table

Just stayed at a brand new (1 month old) Courtyard. The idiots are still employed at Marriott Development it seems:
1) The ice maker's spout is so short you can't fit the room's ice bucket in there, not even at an angle. You can try to fill the bag with it, but it gets caught in the bottom grate as it fills with ice.
2) The half-glass partition for the stall shower is back and the showerhead sprays beyond it; expect to get the bathroom floor soaked.
3) Hotel is located in the middle of a swamp, directly on a river, only a few miles from the Atlantic Ocean...and was absolutely humid throughout. No dehumidifiers here.
4) Exercise room has the weight rack directly against a frosted glass wall. I wonder how long that will last.
5) They had some "patio" rooms on the first floor. Looked awesome for rooms facing the river. However, they also had "patio" rooms which were directly in the parking lot. Just what I want, to enjoy my morning coffee sitting 2' away from the bumper of a car.
6) Brand new hotel...no plugs at the desk!
7) Room AC is directly adjacent to the desk, with the vent aimed directly at the desk.

.
I guess they expect you to do the usual Florida thing and set the AC down to 64F for a while to try to control the humidity.

Recently stayed at the AC Hotel Bologna, and it was a greatest hits of terrible bathroom design. Glass door with a 5cm gap around all sides, so no sound proofing at all. Half shower door that let lots of water onto the floor. And the best (i.e. worst) was the see-through plastic counter/sink combo. Wish I took a picture but you can see it here - https://www.marriott.com/en-us/hotel...ologna/photos/. The water pressure is high and the sink is not deep, so if you turn the water on quickly it hits the far side of the sink and shoots back up towards you (and onto the floor if you're lucky enough to jump out of the way). Once you get used to turning the water on very gently to avoid soaking yourself, the sink is still tiny so water splashes all over the counter every time you use it, and it just looks dirty all the time because the counter is clear so it shows all the water and soap spots (they provide bar soap but no soap dish, another pet peeve).

The kicker is that the same hotel has the keycard master light switch by the door. In the meantime, cranking the AC down to get humidity to a reasonable level easily guzzles far more power than worrying about a few LED lights running when the guest is away.

If I'm traveling by car in Florida, I carry this little guy:
Amazon Amazon
It's about the size of my laptop bag and works wonders. If traveling by air, I pack a small space heater (AC + heat simultaneously = poor man's dehumidifier).

Perfect energy efficient solutions for the hotel operator.

Add one more to the list: Shower stalls with hidden drains. The Marriott ones have a rectangular metal panel...which happens to be right underneath the showerhead. If you have a dripping showerhead, that metal panel acts like a bell, ringing with every single drip, calling attention to it in the middle of the night. Sure, I can toss a towel over it to dull the sound, but it further shows that this wasn't thought through.

Re-heat in HVAC is quite common in larger facilities. It's actually far more efficient than trying to make people comfortable by just lowering the thermostat. Humidity is far more critical to human comfort indoors than temperature.

Rant from the past few stays -- Showers which don't contain the water. I've had multiple hotels now where taking a shower soaks the bathroom no matter what you try to do. The most recent one was a stall shower with glass wall and glass door by the showerhead, but the glass door had about a 1/4" gap between it and the threshold, so any water which hit the door went straight to the bathroom floor. Another property had a shower curtain which was too short to reach the tub.

My peeve to add to this thread is hotels in 2023 with no place to plug a phone charger in on either side of the bed. Really should be both sides. Springhill Woodbridge reminded me of this a couple of nights ago…

I stayed at a redesigned SHS this weekend, this was the bathroom set up:

So if you're someone who likes to use the bathroom first thing in the morning then shower this means you go into the tiny closet bathroom on the left then walk to the shower. If you're perhaps sharing a room with your daughter as I was it's a little awkward. It also meant for again an absolutely tiny little toilet closet and a small shower room too.
