This thread refers to the various Marriott brands within a specific geographic area. Marriott Bonvoy hotels in XX usually have posts asking which property is better, etc. Trip reports are usually better suited in the property specific threads.
Can someone who knows list the names of the hotels here in this long thread? Here are the names, addresses, email contact, commonly used abbreviations and some basic info about each hotel. (Location information, CL and breakfast information, UG experiences reported within the thread, typical room layout and frequently mentioned basic advice for different properties.) Keep in mind most posts indicate these are all great hotels. Hope this helps. CJK

- JW Marriott Hotel Bangkok (JW) 4 Sukhumvit Road, Soi 2, Bangkok 10110, Thailand between the Phloen Chit and Nana BTS Stations. There is a pretty large CL. Elites mostly report having complimentary breakfast offered only at the CL and not in a restaurant. Some are bothered by the hotel's proximity to the Nana district and think the hotel may get some associated business while others (myself) have not really noticed this unless looking hard to see it. The hotel was recently renovated and there are a few posts showing pictures. UGs are usually to the club level regular room where the bathrooms are interior (no outside glass wall) and feature rather small showers but great soaking tubs. Unlike the other hotels listed here, the toilets are not in enclosures.
- Renaissance Bangkok Ratchaprasong Hotel (Ren) 518/8 Ploenchit Road Khwaeng Lumphini, Khet Pathum Wan, Bangkok almost attached to the Chit Lom BTS Station and the SkyWalk. One can reach the platform without having to walk on public sidewalks and by using escalators/elevators in the building next door, so most feel this is the property with the fastest and easiest access to BTS. The CL is smaller than the JW's and sometimes gets full. Some elites report having a choice of the complimentary breakfast in the restaurant (which is quite good and huge) while others report having that request denied. Latest reports indicate the restaurant breakfast is offered as of April 2018. The hotel does not have many suites so UGs are usually to corner rooms which often have seating and/or dressing areas as well as larger bathrooms with full glass walls. IMO this is the best/most convenient hotel for a first timer looking to do typical touristy things in Bangkok.
- Courtyard by Marriott Bangkok (CY) 155/1 Soi Mahadlekluang 1 Ratchadamri Road Bangkok is about a five minute walk to either the Ratchadamri or Chit Lom BTS Stations. The hotel operates tuk-tuks to/from the BTS Station. The hotel has a CL and consistently offers elites a choice of breakfast there or in the restaurant. The CL is on the top floor of the hotel and has outdoor seating. Having stayed at the hotel several times as a P, PP and LTP I have never been given an UG, so if there are others who can chime in on that please do. The regular room has a small interior only bathroom with a window overlooking the room and no tub, only a walk-in shower. IMO the price can makes this a great choice, as it is convenient to many places a visitor will go. Sometimes it can be half the price of other Marriott options and they often run double points promotions. (Call the hotel to ask, it cannot hurt.)
- Bangkok Marriott Marquis Queen’s Park (Sukhumvit Soi 22) 199 ถนน สุขุมวิท ซอย 22 Khwaeng Khlong Tan, Khet Khlong Toei, กรุงเทพมหานคร 10110, Thailand is about an eight minute walk to the Emporium Mall and Phrom Phong BTS Station either down the Soi sidewalk or through Queen's Park. The hotel operates a regular shuttle to the BTS Station although some have reported trouble catching it back to the hotel. The CL is large, with an outdoor deck, and most people report not being given a choice for the complimentary breakfast in the restaurant. Most Plats report getting UG to a suite, with the M Suite seeming to be most common. It has a living room, bedroom and single large interior bathroom with separate walk-in showers and tubs. This is the largest hotel in Bangkok.
- Bangkok Marriott Hotel Sukhumvit (Sukhumvit Soi 57) 2 ถนน สุขุมวิท 57 Phra Khanong, Khlong Toei, กรุงเทพมหานคร 10110, Thailand ([email protected]) is a two minute walk to the Thong Lo BTS Station. Getting to the station involves crossing Thong Lo intersection which can be daunting. The hotel is about a ten minute BTS ride to the central malls, the Ren, etc. The area is a little quieter and more "Thai" than the more touristy/business area where the JW, Ren and CY are located. Some people report being able to have complimentary breakfast in the restaurant while others report lounge only. The CL is about the same size as the Ren's and can get crowded in the early evening. The hotel is on the higher floors of a 40+ story building and the CL is located on one of the top floors, offering stunning views of Bangkok. There is a rooftop bar on the top of the building with great views, too. Elites are often given a coupon for a free drink on the roof. Plats report mostly getting UGs to a two room suite with an extra half bath. The main bath includes an enclosed toilet, a single large walk-in shower and a large soaking tub that can easily seat two. (While the tub is large, the JW, Marquis and Ren tubs are more comfortable for a single person looking to lean back and relax.) IMO this is the quietest of the hotels listed here.
- Bangkok Marriott Hotel The Surawongse 262 Thanon Surawong, Khwaeng Si Phraya, Khet Bang Rak, Krung Thep Maha Nakhon 10500, Thailand is the newest hotel. As of April 2018 there are not many posts from users who have stayed, nor is there an abbreviation being commonly used on this forum. The hotel is not attached/close to a BTS or MRT station but is near the Silom business area and some more popular adult entertainment establishments.

What? There's no chillis in your yam pla duk fu' sauce? Sacrilege.
Agreed that around ROS is a very interesting area (Talad Noi) all the way up to Chinatown. Great food, including not commonly seen items like 'guay tiao kua gai', in side street setups.
I'm not as big on the hotel itself as I find the suites spartan and old, the bathrooms small and the lounge food poor quality. I've also had poor results with the 'bartender' during lounge cocktails and been refused service by an egg cook downstairs (that was a doozy) however the price and location to explore and eat is very good. There are also some great bars in the southeastern area of Chinatown (just west of Hualampong). A gin bar called Teens of Thailand (ToT,I've no idea of the bar's name and no, there are no children there nor is any way involved in the sex trade) was the most recent place I hit up for some well made drinks from an extensive gin list.

For a family I recommend staying in the Ratchaprasong area. Easy access to BRT, fairly easy walking via Skywalk, close to the park, much easier access to the airport and everything else. Staying on the river could work, but then again you can waste a lot of time waiting on a boat to go anywhere.

ROS food is nothing to write home about, and, hence, the addiction to street food. But the ROS' beats the lounge offerings at most North American or European Sheraton properties by a huge margin. And, at least they have a lounge (for water, milk, and other beverages) unlike the aloft or the 4P. WGS has a very tiny lounge.

I never had any problem getting to the airport from any part of Bangkok. Also, why would he need to use the BTS? To go where? And waiting is no big deal, boats are plentiful at most river piers. According to the map blow, the closest MRT subway station to the major sightseeing is 10 KM away Kamphaeng Phet station. And, with Bangkok attrocious traffic, this can take up to an hour of your valuable in traffic, pollution, noise, etc. Similarly, the closest BTS station to the temples/palaces is also around 10 KM at Saphan Taksin. There, you still have to take the boat to head to the sightseeing area. Being at the ROS, the piers are just steps away from your room!
I prefer the Marriott Marques Queens Park because I have been to the main attractions many times and when exploring newly discovered spots, I usually use the river if feasible.

If the idea with a family is to do some moderate sightseeing, along with a pool, and a place for the kids to run around, perhaps the Queen's Park Marriott would work? There's a huge family friendly park right outside the back door,. At night, it can be a long walk to the BTS, but that may not be an issue with younger children anyway at the time the park closes.
I'll caveat this with the fact that I'm not very familiar with the legacy-SPG hotels, just the Marriotts, so there may be other options in these areas.

I agree with Barracuda that the riverside tourist stuff can be banged out in one day. It's better to stay someplace else and take the Skytrain down to catch the tourist boat for a day than to stay by the river and doing the opposite run.
Keep in mind that there are several SPG properties in Ratchaprasong area, as well as the Marriott Apartments on Wireless. I think there are 6 properties total in that general area.

I find the ROS very convenient. Now, I'm not trying to tell people where to book or which hotel to like. But, I stay there a lot and want to clear up some points.
I don't like the river boats, or shuttle boats, but they are available, as discussed above.
The hotel is a 40THB taxi ride from both the MRT and the BTS.
The MRT is my preferred transit, and about 1km away at Hua Lumpong. I like it because the route there and back is relatively traffic free and they have access to Asoke without changing trains.
The closest BTS, in my opinion is at Sala Daeng, less than a km away (I do understand why some people go to Saphan Taksin).
It's not far from MBK, SIAM Square, etc. and Central World, but it's not walking distance. Now the ICON mall is across the street.
They are very close to an Expressway on ramp, but the traffic is terrible in that direction.
Taxis are a pain. It's easier to go from the ROS than it is to get to it... because the one way street that they exit onto is often jammed up. But, there is a shortcut, if you come from the train station. It requires getting out of the taxi at River City, though, about 50 meters from the hotel.
The rates at the ROS are cheaper because they have 750 rooms to sell.
Now, I don't think they are the best choice. In fact, in my stays since the merger, they seem to have gotten a bit worse. The lounge is lovely, but it's far from awesome. For me, it's the staff that make the difference!

Still no one can tell us why we need to get to the BTS or MRT! Even though I enjoy riding the BTS when I need to be somewhere, the purpose being in Thailand, at least for me, is not solely to be in a BTS/MRT/ARL as these are just modes of transportation within Bangkok.
This discussion is about the OP and his 3-day stay in Bangkok. If you're staying in a property with easy access to major sightseeing and located near shopping, entertainment, dining, etc., why would you need to be somewhere else? Just to try Bangkok transportation modes? MRT is just an underground tunnel. BTS OTOH can be fun and you can observe Bangkok skyline. Also, Jim Thompson Teak/Silk Museum is about 5-minutes walk from National Stadium BTS station.
If the neighborhood and ICONSIAM are not enough entertainment, dining, or shopping for you, then there is another venue down south called Asiatique The Riverfront (south of Saphan Taksin) which is also accessible by boat.

Perhaps because it’s so obvious that doesn’t require an elaborate theoretical base. BTS/MRT is the only fast, easy and predictable way of moving around the city. The last thing one would want on a short vacation is to be stuck for hours in Bangkok traffic in a taxi (for obvious reasons, Grab bike is not an option for a family).
There is pretty much nothing “along the river” aside from palace area. I have no idea how frequently and reliably boats go, but what I do know is that many people (including myself) suffer from motion sickness, which makes a boat journey further undesirable. But in any case, taking boat may assist transportation, but cannot take you anywhere on its own. Still connection to BTS/MRT or taxi will be required.

When the other are suggesting to stay centrally in Sukhumvit, it doesn't mean to just sit the BTS or MRT aimlessly. Because it generally easy to get around most places without knowing what OP actually have in mind.
I do think in years to come, when the charoen nakorn and charoenkrung area developed as plan. It will be an interesting option, especially when the BTS extend to those area. It will make travelling around much more easier on top of the current river taxi access.
At the end of the day OP just have to decide what is best located based on his own itinerary.

But I have to agree with the rest, the location is not "very convenient" , but of course everyone has their own definition of convenient.
I will only stay here if the price is super attractive (like below THB 3000) and I do not have much other option left

If I am comparing the following hotel around Sukhumvit area, which one has better lounge and also treatement for SPG Platinum.
- JW Marriott
- Bangkok Marriott (Thonglor)
- Sheraton Grand Sukhumvit
- Marriott Marquis?
I am looking property within walking distance to BTS (within 5 min), close enough to Soi 15 and have lounge.
