This thread refers to the various Marriott brands within a specific geographic area. Marriott Bonvoy hotels in XX usually have posts asking which property is better, etc. Trip reports are usually better suited in the property specific threads.
Can someone who knows list the names of the hotels here in this long thread? Here are the names, addresses, email contact, commonly used abbreviations and some basic info about each hotel. (Location information, CL and breakfast information, UG experiences reported within the thread, typical room layout and frequently mentioned basic advice for different properties.) - JW Marriott Hotel Bangkok (JW) 4 Sukhumvit Road, Soi 2, Bangkok 10110, Thailand between the Phloen Chit and Nana BTS Stations. There is a pretty large CL. Elites mostly report having complimentary breakfast offered only at the CL and not in a restaurant. Some are bothered by the hotel's proximity to the Nana district and think the hotel may get some associated business while others (myself) have not really noticed this unless looking hard to see it. The hotel was recently renovated and there are a few posts showing pictures. UGs are usually to the club level regular room where the bathrooms are interior (no outside glass wall) and feature rather small showers but great soaking tubs. Unlike the other hotels listed here, the toilets are not in enclosures.
- Renaissance Bangkok Ratchaprasong Hotel (Ren) 518/8 Ploenchit Road Khwaeng Lumphini, Khet Pathum Wan, Bangkok almost attached to the Chit Lom BTS Station and the SkyWalk. One can reach the platform without having to walk on public sidewalks and by using escalators/elevators in the building next door, so most feel this is the property with the fastest and easiest access to BTS. The CL is smaller than the JW's and sometimes gets full. Some elites report having a choice of the complimentary breakfast in the restaurant (which is quite good and huge) while others report having that request denied. Latest reports indicate the restaurant breakfast is offered as of April 2018. The hotel does not have many suites so UGs are usually to corner rooms which often have seating and/or dressing areas as well as larger bathrooms with full glass walls. IMO this is the best/most convenient hotel for a first timer looking to do typical touristy things in Bangkok.
- Courtyard by Marriott Bangkok (CY) 155/1 Soi Mahadlekluang 1 Ratchadamri Road Bangkok is about a five minute walk to either the Ratchadamri or Chit Lom BTS Stations. The hotel operates tuk-tuks to/from the BTS Station. The hotel has a CL and consistently offers elites a choice of breakfast there or in the restaurant. The CL is on the top floor of the hotel and has outdoor seating. Having stayed at the hotel several times as a P, PP and LTP I have never been given an UG, so if there are others who can chime in on that please do. The regular room has a small interior only bathroom with a window overlooking the room and no tub, only a walk-in shower. IMO the price can makes this a great choice, as it is convenient to many places a visitor will go. Sometimes it can be half the price of other Marriott options and they often run double points promotions. (Call the hotel to ask, it cannot hurt.)
- Bangkok Marriott Marquis Queen’s Park (Sukhumvit Soi 22) 199 ถนน สุขุมวิท ซอย 22 Khwaeng Khlong Tan, Khet Khlong Toei, กรุงเทพมหานคร 10110, Thailand is about an eight minute walk to the Emporium Mall and Phrom Phong BTS Station either down the Soi sidewalk or through Queen's Park. The hotel operates a regular shuttle to the BTS Station although some have reported trouble catching it back to the hotel. The CL is large, with an outdoor deck, and most people report not being given a choice for the complimentary breakfast in the restaurant. Most Plats report getting UG to a suite, with the M Suite seeming to be most common. It has a living room, bedroom and single large interior bathroom with separate walk-in showers and tubs. This is the largest hotel in Bangkok.
- Bangkok Marriott Hotel Sukhumvit (Sukhumvit Soi 57) 2 ถนน สุขุมวิท 57 Phra Khanong, Khlong Toei, กรุงเทพมหานคร 10110, Thailand ([email protected]) is a two minute walk to the Thong Lo BTS Station. Getting to the station involves crossing Thong Lo intersection which can be daunting. The hotel is about a ten minute BTS ride to the central malls, the Ren, etc. The area is a little quieter and more "Thai" than the more touristy/business area where the JW, Ren and CY are located. Some people report being able to have complimentary breakfast in the restaurant while others report lounge only. The CL is about the same size as the Ren's and can get crowded in the early evening. The hotel is on the higher floors of a 40+ story building and the CL is located on one of the top floors, offering stunning views of Bangkok. There is a rooftop bar on the top of the building with great views, too. Elites are often given a coupon for a free drink on the roof. Plats report mostly getting UGs to a two room suite with an extra half bath. The main bath includes an enclosed toilet, a single large walk-in shower and a large soaking tub that can easily seat two. (While the tub is large, the JW, Marquis and Ren tubs are more comfortable for a single person looking to lean back and relax.) IMO this is the quietest of the hotels listed here.
- Bangkok Marriott Hotel The Surawongse 262 Thanon Surawong, Khwaeng Si Phraya, Khet Bang Rak, Krung Thep Maha Nakhon 10500, Thailand is the newest hotel. As of April 2018 there are not many posts from users who have stayed, nor is there an abbreviation being commonly used on this forum. The hotel is not attached/close to a BTS or MRT station but is near the Silom business area and some more popular adult entertainment establishments.

Planning to have our first visit to Bangkok in late January and would like to have your thoughts about the most family-friendly Marriott hotel. We are going to stay for three nights and I am planning to redeem points for this stay, maximum 25k/night. I am traveling with my wife and our 3 year old. I am Marriott Platinum.
Looking for a hotel where we will be able to have convenient access to touristy stuff (have no idea about what that would be in Bangkok but will figure that out later), and also be able to relax/play by a pool at the hotel (preferably outside).

For first timers to Bangkok who are Marriott Platinum, the Royal Orchid Sheraton is a nice treat.With great views and located on the river, it easy to visit the tourist sites the way people got around in a different time. For other locations, the hotel's river boat will connect you to the BTS
Royal Orchid Sheraton has improved their treatment of Marriott platinums, and my last time there, permitted taking breakfast in the restaurant, which was a nice change.

Make it three. The lounge is really great. Like the JW there is some outdoor seating which is nice. The suite upgrade during my one stay for a huge corporate event, was great. Between the three, I'd go for the Marriott Marquis.

Was looking for some help on deciding hotels. Impulse weekend getaway trip to bangkok in 2 weeks with 2 friends(total 3 people). don’t expect to be able to BRG the rate on such short notice. We just plan on lounging around, going to spa’s & eating street food.
was wondering if you guys have any suggestions on which hotel would be best for 3 people to split a room based on bed sizes, and lounge benefits? I’m plat premier but I’m don’t expect to be able to get 3 people into the lounge. (Any idea which hotel is less strict on this?)
Also, for the extra person charge, does that include a rollaway bed? Or is that another additional charge on top of the extra person.

While I liked the hotel overall and Platinum treatment is rather decent, won't agree regarding location. I think it's a very inconvenient place, especially if one plans to go out for something like sightseeing. If I stay at ROS, I wouldn't bother to set my foot out of the property premises.

Service and elite recognition at LM are amazing, but I don't think its location is family friendly (and personally I am not a fan of Silom/Sathorn area regardless). ROS has better food (since it has a proper lounge) and to my taste better suite design. I wasn't impressed by service there and its location is a pain, but at 12500 points it's a great value, perhaps the best among Marriott options in Bangkok. I would not hesitate booking it on points or in a case you can get a decent BRG. But if you consider regular cash rates, I'd book something else.
Talking purely about location, I'd go for any option along Sukhumvit that is easily accessible from BTS. Obviously, the best location is near to Asok, since it allows easy access to BTS and MRT both (it's also relatively near to Makkasan and easily accessible from Ekkamai bus terminal). Bangkok traffic is horrible, so I wouldn't rely on taxi or Grab. BTS and MRT save.

The ROS is located in a historical area of Bangkok on the river between two public piers and provides easy access to all modes of transport. The hotel offers complimentary shuttle service to/from the piers of Silom BTS Line at Saphan Taksin. Adjacent to the hotel and connected to its second floor is the RiverCity mall and tour boat docks. This RC Mall has many antique shops and restaurants in addition to its 3-Baht (less than a dime per person) ferry dock to the Millennium Hilton, Klong San Market, and ICONSIAM Megamall (called the “Mother of All Malls”) across the river. For transportation to the Grand Palace, Wat Phra Kaew, Wat Arun, Wat Po sightseeing, the Si Phraya Pier is literally next door, with designated pier number N3.
There are two pools at the ROS. One is good size offering sun lounges, towels and full service F&B located on the second floor wooden-deck overlooking the river. The second is more fun and located at the historic Portuguese Embassy garden and tennis courts next door.
Note the ROS is to the left of CAT building while the Mandrin Oriental is at bottom center of the photo. The not completely finished ICONSIAM is across the river next to the Millennium Hilton.

If you are talking about the ROS, you are mistaken my friend. This property is very convenient especially for sightseeing. First off, the OP is travelling with family and a baby, so it's prudent to keep him out of the Silom and Sukhumvit areas.

I assume that's not only my view, and it is its poor location that is reflected in its award price and usual cash prices. I have seen ROS for the same prices as Aloft. And I am sure ROS is better in everything, aside from its location.

I can't see how a necessity to take a boat or shuttle can be more convenient than direct or at least easily walkable access to BTS/MRT. There is no point to argue about tastes and preferences – if you enjoy river more that city center, that's perfectly fine, but logistically ROS is a pain. It is hard to access from either of the airports, it is hard to access from either of the main bus terminals, it is quite far from BTS and MRT lines and nearest BST/MRT stations are in the far end of respective lines. It is far from main Bangkok malls and cinemas. The only advantage from logistical point of view is relative proximity to the train station (if one plans to go to the North by train).
I assume that's not only my view, and it is its poor location that is reflected in its award price and usual cash prices. I have seen ROS for the same prices as Aloft. And I am sure ROS is better in everything, aside from its location.

I travel to BKK a couple of times a year, I can't remember when was the last time I ventured to the river area actually. Hotels along the sukhumvit line are the most convenient to me. Siam/Sukhumvit area are as central as it gets logistically in Bangkok.
At the end of the day, what defines as a good location depends on the each traveller needs and perspective.

I agree with you here. ROS is only convenient if one intend to visit the sights along the river every single day. Beside that, it's location is the worst of all Marriott options in BKK.

- The OP is interested in sightseeing: No need for the BTS/MRT as they don't reach and are very far the main attractions (the Grand Palace, Wat Phra Kaew, Wat Arun, Wat Po, Wat Saket, Barges museum, Longtail boat ride, etc.). The main terminal for escorted tours and longtail boat rentals is next door at the RC Mall, if escorted tour is desired. I personally do my own.
- The OP has 3 days in town: stay on Sukhumvit/Silom with wife and baby for what? To watch the hookers and the ladyboys???
- Shopping, entertainment, massage, restaurants are plentiful in the Bang Rak/Charoen Krung Rd. area
- Plenty of temples, historic churches, and palaces in the immediate area.(the historic East Asiatic Company, the old Bangkok custom house, Siam Commercial Bank Talad Noi, Assumption Cathedral, the 18th century Holy Rosary Church, Wat Suan Phlu, the colorful Wat Phra Si Maha Utama Devi Hindu temple, etc.). This is the magical area of late 19th-early 20th century Siam we were fascinated about when we were kids.
