This thread refers to the various Marriott brands within a specific geographic area. Marriott Bonvoy hotels in XX usually have posts asking which property is better, etc. Trip reports are usually better suited in the property specific threads.

Can someone who knows list the names of the hotels here in this long thread? Here are the names, addresses, email contact, commonly used abbreviations and some basic info about each hotel. (Location information, CL and breakfast information, UG experiences reported within the thread, typical room layout and frequently mentioned basic advice for different properties.) Keep in mind most posts indicate these are all great hotels. Hope this helps. CJK
  • JW Marriott Hotel Bangkok (JW) 4 Sukhumvit Road, Soi 2, Bangkok 10110, Thailand between the Phloen Chit and Nana BTS Stations. There is a pretty large CL. Elites mostly report having complimentary breakfast offered only at the CL and not in a restaurant. Some are bothered by the hotel's proximity to the Nana district and think the hotel may get some associated business while others (myself) have not really noticed this unless looking hard to see it. The hotel was recently renovated and there are a few posts showing pictures. UGs are usually to the club level regular room where the bathrooms are interior (no outside glass wall) and feature rather small showers but great soaking tubs. Unlike the other hotels listed here, the toilets are not in enclosures.
  • Renaissance Bangkok Ratchaprasong Hotel (Ren) 518/8 Ploenchit Road Khwaeng Lumphini, Khet Pathum Wan, Bangkok almost attached to the Chit Lom BTS Station and the SkyWalk. One can reach the platform without having to walk on public sidewalks and by using escalators/elevators in the building next door, so most feel this is the property with the fastest and easiest access to BTS. The CL is smaller than the JW's and sometimes gets full. Some elites report having a choice of the complimentary breakfast in the restaurant (which is quite good and huge) while others report having that request denied. Latest reports indicate the restaurant breakfast is offered as of April 2018. The hotel does not have many suites so UGs are usually to corner rooms which often have seating and/or dressing areas as well as larger bathrooms with full glass walls. IMO this is the best/most convenient hotel for a first timer looking to do typical touristy things in Bangkok.
  • Courtyard by Marriott Bangkok (CY) 155/1 Soi Mahadlekluang 1 Ratchadamri Road Bangkok is about a five minute walk to either the Ratchadamri or Chit Lom BTS Stations. The hotel operates tuk-tuks to/from the BTS Station. The hotel has a CL and consistently offers elites a choice of breakfast there or in the restaurant. The CL is on the top floor of the hotel and has outdoor seating. Having stayed at the hotel several times as a P, PP and LTP I have never been given an UG, so if there are others who can chime in on that please do. The regular room has a small interior only bathroom with a window overlooking the room and no tub, only a walk-in shower. IMO the price can makes this a great choice, as it is convenient to many places a visitor will go. Sometimes it can be half the price of other Marriott options and they often run double points promotions. (Call the hotel to ask, it cannot hurt.)
  • Bangkok Marriott Marquis Queen’s Park (Sukhumvit Soi 22) 199 ถนน สุขุมวิท ซอย 22 Khwaeng Khlong Tan, Khet Khlong Toei, กรุงเทพมหานคร 10110, Thailand is about an eight minute walk to the Emporium Mall and Phrom Phong BTS Station either down the Soi sidewalk or through Queen's Park. The hotel operates a regular shuttle to the BTS Station although some have reported trouble catching it back to the hotel. The CL is large, with an outdoor deck, and most people report not being given a choice for the complimentary breakfast in the restaurant. Most Plats report getting UG to a suite, with the M Suite seeming to be most common. It has a living room, bedroom and single large interior bathroom with separate walk-in showers and tubs. This is the largest hotel in Bangkok.
  • Bangkok Marriott Hotel Sukhumvit (Sukhumvit Soi 57) 2 ถนน สุขุมวิท 57 Phra Khanong, Khlong Toei, กรุงเทพมหานคร 10110, Thailand ([email protected]) is a two minute walk to the Thong Lo BTS Station. Getting to the station involves crossing Thong Lo intersection which can be daunting. The hotel is about a ten minute BTS ride to the central malls, the Ren, etc. The area is a little quieter and more "Thai" than the more touristy/business area where the JW, Ren and CY are located. Some people report being able to have complimentary breakfast in the restaurant while others report lounge only. The CL is about the same size as the Ren's and can get crowded in the early evening. The hotel is on the higher floors of a 40+ story building and the CL is located on one of the top floors, offering stunning views of Bangkok. There is a rooftop bar on the top of the building with great views, too. Elites are often given a coupon for a free drink on the roof. Plats report mostly getting UGs to a two room suite with an extra half bath. The main bath includes an enclosed toilet, a single large walk-in shower and a large soaking tub that can easily seat two. (While the tub is large, the JW, Marquis and Ren tubs are more comfortable for a single person looking to lean back and relax.) IMO this is the quietest of the hotels listed here.
  • Bangkok Marriott Hotel The Surawongse 262 Thanon Surawong, Khwaeng Si Phraya, Khet Bang Rak, Krung Thep Maha Nakhon 10500, Thailand is the newest hotel. As of April 2018 there are not many posts from users who have stayed, nor is there an abbreviation being commonly used on this forum. The hotel is not attached/close to a BTS or MRT station but is near the Silom business area and some more popular adult entertainment establishments.

Staying with family I'd say that Mar57, WGS, SGS, Athenee, Courtyard and Renaissance would all be good choices. They are all relatively quick walks to the BTS without a lot of clutter between you and the BTS. The Marriott Marquis is great so long as the park is open to walk to the BTS. Otherwise a slog the long way around.
Hopefully on my next trip I will be able to explore other parts of Thailand. Your pictures are wonderful and your post is even better.

If good transportation is your thing, I'd stay at the SGS which has a direct access to Asok BTS Station (BTS is Bangkok's elevated light monorail). St.R also has a direct access to a BTS station at Ratchdamri. Both properties deservedly expensive. Here are your other options:

WGS is also adjacent to Asok BTS but no direct connection.
The Renaissance (as mentioned above) is about 5 minutes walk to Chitlom BTS Station
Marriott Sukhumvit 57 is about 5 minutes walk to Thong Lo BTS Station
Marriott Marquis QP is about 12 minutes walk from Phrom Phong BTS Station
JW Marriott is between Nana and Phloen Chit BTS stations and around 10 minutes walks to either.
W is about 5 minutes walk to Chong Nonsi BTS Station.

Currently, there is no mass transport (MRT or BTS) that connects directly from Silom/Sukhumvit/Sathorn tourist areas (where the major hotels are) to the Temple/Palaces area. But as mentioned by post #1147 there's a way to get there rather than taking a Taxi or a Tuk Tuk. Generate a google map of Bangkok and study the city interesting areas in relations to distances and mass transport systems.

If sightseeing and getting there is my thing, I'd stay be the river. If you want a suite with executive privileges, pay for one as GOLD status won't get you much nowadays (but you never know for certain)! It will still be a bargain in comparison to London, Tokyo, NYC, SFO or even LA.

Sheraton Grande Sukhumvit (SGS) direct skywalk from lobby to Asok BTS Station.
Very nice summary. Thank you.

LeM gets great reviews from Platinums like myself because of the near-certainty of a suite upgrade, great service, the breakfast with sparkling wine, great location for walking home at 4am, and the inventive cocktails during the two-hours of Platinum "creative hour". I stay there every time in Bangkok (approx 6-8 times a year).

However, others would criticise its small pool, canapes rather than a meal during creative hour and its location because it doesn't suit their purpose.

As a Gold with a family, I would stay elsewhere.

Like where, which under cat 4 Marriott property do you recommend then?
I was going to pick one from the four below, but I am open to suggestions since I am using the certificate so the price won't be a factor as long as it is 4 or under.

Bangkok Marriott Hotel The Surawongse

Le Méridien Bangkok

W Bangkok

JW Marriott Hotel Bangkok

With a family I'd likely not select any of these as a Gold.

I'd look at:
  • The Athenee - Cat 4 - big rooms, big pool, ok walk to the BTS
  • Renaissance - Cat 4 - Good location, ok walk to the BTS, not sure about rooms or pool
  • Maybe Westin - Cat 4 - Smaller rooms, best location of these three (across from Terminal 21, on top of department store and supermarket, escalator across the street to the BTS), ok pool

Well, from your requirements I would focus on what's important: access to transport and a pool. Gold, as you know, is largely irrelevant.

From your list, that rules out the LeM and the Marriott Surawongse. The W has a good pool area and inventive rooms if you can take the W style. I've not stayed at the JW and don't covet that location but many would.

I'd look at the pictures of the pool area and choose from that.

The JW pool is very small. The Marriott Suk57 might be the best bet - right by a SkyTrain station and with a killer pool.

Thanks, guys. I didn't know Westin is WGS. LOL, it seems Westin is an attractive option for now. I am still working on my Platinum status, hopefully, I can get it before December. If I can get Platinum, any recommendations?

Oh dear. Now you've asked. Platinum makes a completely different experience and everyone will have their opinions and their view on the best lavish treatment in Bangkok. It would help if you prioritised your Platinum preferences to overlay on the pool and transport preferences: chance of suite upgrade, sparkling wine at breakfast, lounge breakfast or regular hotel buffet breakfast (ie better than lounge breakfast), happy hour evening cocktails or beer/wine/spirits (ie proper hotel cocktails made by bartender or mix your own G&T), snacks or full evening meal during happy hour. Until you give some indication as to what you value then you won't get a helpful answer. You will just get people's favourite hotel in Bangkok. Mine is Le Meridien but as I stated above I don't think that will suit a family wanting a family-style pool.

Thanks. I love a good breakfast. Don't care about suit upgrade. We don't really drink, occasionally a cocktail is fine. Full evening meal during the happy hour would be fantastic. But there should be lots of cheap and good options of food in BKK, so it is not a deal breaker. Still like BTS or MTR nearby, because I heard the traffic in BKK could be terrible.

You know, you should look at the Sheraton Royal Orchid. It's a lower category than the others but if you're paying cash for any nights then it's a good deal in Bangkok. The location on the river gives great views. Probably the best two pools of all the hotels mentioned. High chance of a suite upgrade. Breakfast can be taken in the main buffet as well as the lounge (note that they change policy on this for Platinums at times so check with them if it's the deal-breaker though lounge breakfast is fine). Proper food in the lounge in the evening for an evening meal. Convenient location for the river bus to the Grand Palace and to Asiatique for an evening out. People will complain that it's (a) older and (b) less convenient for public transport. Both true. But convenient for the Grand Palace by river (fun!) and great value if you're paying compared to Aloft / Four Points properties that don't have lounges.

Also note that across the river they are opening a massive mall, IconSiam, on Nov 9. Should be lots of interesting food and whatnot to explore there.

Thank you for the info. We are using the Cat 4 certificate, so no cash. We are still considering Le Meridian since we are a couple with an adult child.

Best family-friendly hotel in Bangkok?

Planning to have our first visit to Bangkok in late January and would like to have your thoughts about the most family-friendly Marriott hotel. We are going to stay for three nights and I am planning to redeem points for this stay, maximum 25k/night. I am traveling with my wife and our 3 year old. I am Marriott Platinum.
Looking for a hotel where we will be able to have convenient access to touristy stuff (have no idea about what that would be in Bangkok but will figure that out later), and also be able to relax/play by a pool at the hotel (preferably outside).

I am still in doubts whether to pick Marriott Marquis, Surawongse or JW to use a certificate there. Any advise from those having stayed in all three?

Location is irrelevant in my question (i.e. I know Bangkok pretty well and understand what is better for my preferences), I care about lounge quality (both offerings and ambience), room design (something more unique is definitely preferred to a typical 5* business hotel), views from rooms and lounge and likeliness of suite upgrade. Breakfast and pool are absolutely irrelevant for me.

Maybe Ren should be added to comparison, though from photos it seems rooms there aren't great. I'd consider Athenee, but I guess I cannot apply legacy cert to an ex-SPG property.

Marriott Marquis Queen Park, always have a suite upgrade here and definitely one of the best lounge in the Marriott group of hotels in Bangkok.
