This thread refers to the various Marriott brands within a specific geographic area. Marriott Bonvoy hotels in XX usually have posts asking which property is better, etc. Trip reports are usually better suited in the property specific threads.

Can someone who knows list the names of the hotels here in this long thread? Here are the names, addresses, email contact, commonly used abbreviations and some basic info about each hotel. (Location information, CL and breakfast information, UG experiences reported within the thread, typical room layout and frequently mentioned basic advice for different properties.) Keep in mind most posts indicate these are all great hotels. Hope this helps. CJK
  • JW Marriott Hotel Bangkok (JW) 4 Sukhumvit Road, Soi 2, Bangkok 10110, Thailand between the Phloen Chit and Nana BTS Stations. There is a pretty large CL. Elites mostly report having complimentary breakfast offered only at the CL and not in a restaurant. Some are bothered by the hotel's proximity to the Nana district and think the hotel may get some associated business while others (myself) have not really noticed this unless looking hard to see it. The hotel was recently renovated and there are a few posts showing pictures. UGs are usually to the club level regular room where the bathrooms are interior (no outside glass wall) and feature rather small showers but great soaking tubs. Unlike the other hotels listed here, the toilets are not in enclosures.
  • Renaissance Bangkok Ratchaprasong Hotel (Ren) 518/8 Ploenchit Road Khwaeng Lumphini, Khet Pathum Wan, Bangkok almost attached to the Chit Lom BTS Station and the SkyWalk. One can reach the platform without having to walk on public sidewalks and by using escalators/elevators in the building next door, so most feel this is the property with the fastest and easiest access to BTS. The CL is smaller than the JW's and sometimes gets full. Some elites report having a choice of the complimentary breakfast in the restaurant (which is quite good and huge) while others report having that request denied. Latest reports indicate the restaurant breakfast is offered as of April 2018. The hotel does not have many suites so UGs are usually to corner rooms which often have seating and/or dressing areas as well as larger bathrooms with full glass walls. IMO this is the best/most convenient hotel for a first timer looking to do typical touristy things in Bangkok.
  • Courtyard by Marriott Bangkok (CY) 155/1 Soi Mahadlekluang 1 Ratchadamri Road Bangkok is about a five minute walk to either the Ratchadamri or Chit Lom BTS Stations. The hotel operates tuk-tuks to/from the BTS Station. The hotel has a CL and consistently offers elites a choice of breakfast there or in the restaurant. The CL is on the top floor of the hotel and has outdoor seating. Having stayed at the hotel several times as a P, PP and LTP I have never been given an UG, so if there are others who can chime in on that please do. The regular room has a small interior only bathroom with a window overlooking the room and no tub, only a walk-in shower. IMO the price can makes this a great choice, as it is convenient to many places a visitor will go. Sometimes it can be half the price of other Marriott options and they often run double points promotions. (Call the hotel to ask, it cannot hurt.)
  • Bangkok Marriott Marquis Queen’s Park (Sukhumvit Soi 22) 199 ถนน สุขุมวิท ซอย 22 Khwaeng Khlong Tan, Khet Khlong Toei, กรุงเทพมหานคร 10110, Thailand is about an eight minute walk to the Emporium Mall and Phrom Phong BTS Station either down the Soi sidewalk or through Queen's Park. The hotel operates a regular shuttle to the BTS Station although some have reported trouble catching it back to the hotel. The CL is large, with an outdoor deck, and most people report not being given a choice for the complimentary breakfast in the restaurant. Most Plats report getting UG to a suite, with the M Suite seeming to be most common. It has a living room, bedroom and single large interior bathroom with separate walk-in showers and tubs. This is the largest hotel in Bangkok.
  • Bangkok Marriott Hotel Sukhumvit (Sukhumvit Soi 57) 2 ถนน สุขุมวิท 57 Phra Khanong, Khlong Toei, กรุงเทพมหานคร 10110, Thailand ([email protected]) is a two minute walk to the Thong Lo BTS Station. Getting to the station involves crossing Thong Lo intersection which can be daunting. The hotel is about a ten minute BTS ride to the central malls, the Ren, etc. The area is a little quieter and more "Thai" than the more touristy/business area where the JW, Ren and CY are located. Some people report being able to have complimentary breakfast in the restaurant while others report lounge only. The CL is about the same size as the Ren's and can get crowded in the early evening. The hotel is on the higher floors of a 40+ story building and the CL is located on one of the top floors, offering stunning views of Bangkok. There is a rooftop bar on the top of the building with great views, too. Elites are often given a coupon for a free drink on the roof. Plats report mostly getting UGs to a two room suite with an extra half bath. The main bath includes an enclosed toilet, a single large walk-in shower and a large soaking tub that can easily seat two. (While the tub is large, the JW, Marquis and Ren tubs are more comfortable for a single person looking to lean back and relax.) IMO this is the quietest of the hotels listed here.
  • Bangkok Marriott Hotel The Surawongse 262 Thanon Surawong, Khwaeng Si Phraya, Khet Bang Rak, Krung Thep Maha Nakhon 10500, Thailand is the newest hotel. As of April 2018 there are not many posts from users who have stayed, nor is there an abbreviation being commonly used on this forum. The hotel is not attached/close to a BTS or MRT station but is near the Silom business area and some more popular adult entertainment establishments.

Yes, it was pro-actively offered at check-in during my last stay in November (as a Gold).

Welp, that's a bummer. Planning to stay there in June so hope whatever work they are doing is done by then.

The soi57 is the only Marriott in BAngkok that I would never stayed again. Not much recognized for status, very impersonal service( even the huge marquis provides better service), layout makes a super tiny room, also very small pool, standard business hotel atmosphere.

I would pick Ren , Marquis , JW or even the CY if price is considered.

Sorry you didn't have an experience that met your expectations, but in dozens of stays of mostly five to seven days I have never not gotten an UG to a high floor two room suite with an extra half bath and a huge bath off the master. The service has always been excellent, although I don't want/need to be fawned over. The bellman always recognize me, the Concierge remembers me and the manager always greets me. Towels show up quickly when requested, having the room serviced later in the day is never an issue and the one time I got a flu while there the staff was very helpful. The hotel is always clean, the common areas in top shape and front desk staff accommodating.

This is a long thread with many opinions over many stays. Each property will inevitably have a guest or two with a stay he/she didn't find up to par. Anyone researching hotels should read through the thread and ask questions from the many regular guests who post here.

Yes, that's exactly the reason why I posted my different opinions here about this hotel, especially there are many other options of Marriott in BKK.

Anyone stayed at the JW Marriott since construction has started? I was about to book, but there was a notice that said:

"Please note - Hotel transformation in progress with expected completion September 2018. Work may be noticeable. For the comfort of hotel guests, noise limited to 10am-12noon and 2pm-5pm daily."
Note: Bold is my emphasis.

Just wondering how "noticeable" it is?

I have read the last 10 pages of this thread to start getting familiar with the Marriott hotels in Bangkok. I have never stayed at any of them. After August 1stI will consider it because my Marriott status will “upgrade” on Aug 1stfrom Plat to PPlat100AMB so perhaps my odds of suite upgrades would be better post August 1st. We’ll see.

In general I like having a variety of hotels so I am not a regular at any Bangkok hotel but I have been to more than a dozen so far, multiple times each. No single hotel gets more than 25% of my business because I like to mix things up. Obviously there are some hotels I like more than others, but I usually find that no place is perfect and they each have their own strengths and weaknesses.

Generally speaking, I am looking for good value for the money. That means good chances for a suite upgrade, the presence of a club lounge, choice of breakfast in the restaurant or lounge, nice clean & modern rooms, etc. Because I have been several times to BKK, unlike occasional travelers I am fairly agnostic about location. I get more out of a fantastic hotel out of the way than a subpar hotel in a great location. I have not been shopping around Marriott hotels for long enough to have a good feeling for what is the normal price range at each hotel; for the moment I only rely on a few data points for dates of future trips that I am looking at, so my conclusions about the price range of each hotel might not be correct yet. Feel free to correct me as necessary to provide a more accurate picture to all readers.

With the comments above in mind, please let me know if my comparisons are accurate (knowing that I only rely on written reports for Marriott hotels, not based on what I have seen myself):
- CY: good price, probably cheapest Marriott option. Having a lounge makes it good value for the money. However lounge is small, evening food spread limited, and suite upgrades are rare. If I compare with Starwood, ignoring Aloft and 4P as the “cheap” alternatives without a lounge, the closest match might be Royal Orchid Sheraton. At ROS I get suite upgrades almost all the time and the club lounge seems nicer than what I read in comments from CY. Price sometimes below 3k at ROS so if CY is good value for the money, then ROS is even more so. My takeaway is that if I want to be in this price range, ROS is a better choice than CY? For sure some people will pick CY over ROS due to location, but for my purposes I ignore location.
- Ren: points required 30k per night which is higher than 25k pts per night for Marquis, M57, and Surawong, which I find puzzling because cash rates seem a bit lower at Ren than others? Anyway I will assume that the Ren is the 2ndcheapest after CY. Breakfast seems allowed in the restaurant since the beginning of the year, which is a plus. The lounge is more drink-oriented and the food quality not the best, with a number of fried stuff options. They upgrade to suites but it’s more like a large room. Upgrades to exec suites difficult. Possibly the best match on Starwood’s side is Westin. Sounds like the lounge at Westin is better. Even though room upgrades are not the best at Ren, they seem better than Westin which is even worse. And Westin’s room are older and not as nice as Ren. Both similar price. Ren beats Westin it seems.
- Marriott Soi 57: generous upgrades, real suites and 1.5 bath. Hotel new and modern. Is breakfast allowed in the restaurant or only in the lounge? I missed this earlier in the thread. Lounge is perhaps too crowded, but food better than at Ren. In terms of hotels with a lounge, sounds like M57 is a notch above Ren + Westin, but below JW + Athenee. Clearly if Ren beats Westin then M57 beats Westin too and price not that much more than Westin. M57 most likely below Athenee because the Athenee lounge is fantastic, but I am 0/4 on suites upgrades at Athenee, and M57 is cheaper than Athenee so sounds like M57 is an attractive choice value-wise depending on whether one cares more about a suite or about a lounge.
- Marriott Marquis: seems generally more expensive than M57 but not always. Excellent lounge in the evening. Breakfast now allowed in the restaurant as of May 2018 based on one report. In addition they have lunch in the lounge. Rooms are nicer and newer than CY, but that would be expected given the price tag. Suites not as nice as M57 but upgrades equally generous like M57. Are they real suites or just larger room like upgrades at Ren? So higher price than M57 in light of a better lounge than M57, moving it closer to the quality of the Athenee lounge, better odds of suite upgrade than Athenee, but overall still a notch below Luxury Collection level on Starwood’s side? All in all, MM seems a good choice to go along Athenee once in a while given the lower price and more likely suites.
- JW: the most expensive Marriott option. Rooms recently renovated but bathrooms remain subpar. Suite upgrades difficult. Probably the closest match to Athenee, but seems more expensive, and I doubt the lounge is better than Athenee. Both have difficult upgrades. The edge goes to Athenee over JW on better price and better lounge?
- Surawongse: not much info yet so hard to assess the likelihood of suite upgrades. Not sure how the lounge is. The only thing I see is price, and it does not look to be much below Athenee which makes me doubt it’s a good value proposition; I doubt Surawongse is at a Luxury Collection level.

Two Starwood hotels not mentioned above which I like are Sheraton Grande Sukhumvit and Meridien. Both do not have a lounge which is why they do not have a natural comparison with Marriott. Because I prefer hotels with lounges, that’s a knock on both SGS and LM but I like SGS due to great happy hour in three choices of locations including Bar Su, and I like LM because of the good suite upgrades. So I stay in both once in a while. Like I said, no hotel is perfect buy I enjoy my occasional stays there.

I have not been to W or St.Regis because of spotty Plat treatment and no lounge. Price does not seem to stand out as good value but I have never been there so perhaps I am wrong.

I have not been to Aloft or 4P. They are usually no more than 1000 THB cheaper than ROS and if I can get a lounge and a suite for only 1000 THB more, then I do not see Aloft and 4P as good choices for me. If I want a select service hotel, might as well go to Hyatt Place than Aloft or 4P because HP is more recent and it has suites.

I have been to Grand Hyatt and I like the hotel but I think it’s a bit overpriced relative to other options in Starwood or Hilton. Reading reports on M57 and Marriott Marquis makes it even less likely I will stay at GH soon. Park Hyatt is even more overpriced that GH is, and it does not have a lounge. I am looking forward to try the Hyatt Regency which should open later this year.

I like Millenium Hilton. I think it’s a notch above ROS, and the base room is at a similar price level than ROS. However if you want a suite you need to pay for it, special offer 1100 THB for Hilton Diamonds whereas I get it for free at ROS almost all the time. The basic rooms at MH are not very nice so I always pay extra for a suite. I can find rates as low as 2700 THB at MH then add 1100 THB for a suite so 3800 THB guaranteed in a suite, with lounge and great breakfast in the restaurant. This is a good deal. Currently MH is cheaper than M57 and MM but rooms not as nice at MH so it seems fair. Note that MH is are currently renovating their rooms so it will become more of a competitor to Marriott + Starwood, but they will increase their prices as a result too… We’ll see by how much. Conrad and Hilton Sukhumvit are ok but I am not a big fan so possibly the Marriott options are better. Waldorf Astoria will open soon, probably more in the league of St.Regis than JW. WA won’t have a lounge and price point most likely quite high so I might try it once in a while but I doubt I will be a regular.

Some people like Sofitel So which would be in a category similar to JW and Athenee. But from reports in the Accor thread, they seem to nickel & dime Platinum clients recently, in addition to issues with unclean rooms or bed sheets with holes which is unexpected for a hotel of that caliber. I am more tempted to try Marriott choices like M57 or MM than Sofitel So.

Forgot to mention, it would be useful to get comments about the ease of getting Look No Further or Best Rate Guarantee in various Marriott hotels in Bangkok. I have had decent success on the Starwood side.

While you accurately describe the lounge at the CY, one thing many people seem to overlook is that breakfast is provided in the restaurant (for Gold and above). It's an excellent buffet offer, with Thai, Western, Chinese and Indian options, as well as a made to order omelet station. Not nearly as crowded as lounges tend to be at breakfast time. While there last November, I split my time between the CY and Marquis (Queen's Park), and while both have their pros and cons, I'd probably stay at the CY again for 2/3 of the price of QP. It's also on a quieter side soi, if that matters at all. I found it pleasant to walk the last couple blocks back to my hotel without the crowds and noise.

Breakfast is now allowed in the restaurant at MM for Plats based on what I read, which was not the case when you stayed there. So I think the advantage of CY for breakfast might have disappeared (it used to be that CY restaurant > MM lounge).

Did you get upgraded to a suite at CY and/or MM? I gather than suite upgrades are very difficult at CY but quite frequent at MM.

So yes you pay maybe 30-35% more at MM, but the cash price of a suite there might be close to double what a standard room at CY is. So if those values are accurate, when I think about value for the money (without having seen any of CY or MM), would I pay 30-35% more and get something worth 100% more? I think so. Of course the suite is not guaranteed so I would temper my expectations but I base this mostly on the fact that several people reported getting suites frequently at MM.

And also I think a good comparison is CY vs Royal Orchid Sheraton. For someone who does not care much about location, I suspect ROS wins if you are Plat due to the lounge and suite upgrades. ROS now gives breakfast in the restaurant as well for Plats. It was not the case a few months ago.

I'm surprised that Plats are given breakfast in the restaurant, other than as an occasional exception. The lounge breakfast was fairly extensive. But if true, I'd agree that it would be at least on par or better than the CY. It would also make me think that perhaps the lounge breakfast would be somewhat smaller now.

I was not upgraded to a suite at either hotel. That's not unusual for Marriott Gold though. I was given a club level room at the Marquis.

If the Marquis is allowing Plats breakfast downstairs, my guess is that it's because the lounge is crowded now that hotel operates at full capacity or nearly so.

I was there not long after the refurb started and didn't notice anything.

Hmm, I have been getting free breakfast in restaurants as Marriott Gold, every time (in JW and Autograph Collection hotels in several countries). Not in Bangkok though, haven't yet stayed at Marriotts there.

By there way, can anyone directly compare Maquis to Surawongse? Thinking where to use a free night cert.
And btw, aside from lounge, how do they compare to Indigo (Indigo has no lounge)?
