This thread refers to the various Marriott brands within a specific geographic area. Marriott Bonvoy hotels in XX usually have posts asking which property is better, etc. Trip reports are usually better suited in the property specific threads.
Can someone who knows list the names of the hotels here in this long thread? Here are the names, addresses, email contact, commonly used abbreviations and some basic info about each hotel. (Location information, CL and breakfast information, UG experiences reported within the thread, typical room layout and frequently mentioned basic advice for different properties.) Keep in mind most posts indicate these are all great hotels. Hope this helps. CJK

(Location information, CL and breakfast information, UG experiences reported within the thread, typical room layout and frequently mentioned basic advice for different properties.) - JW Marriott Hotel Bangkok (JW) 4 Sukhumvit Road, Soi 2, Bangkok 10110, Thailand between the Phloen Chit and Nana BTS Stations. There is a pretty large CL. Elites mostly report having complimentary breakfast offered only at the CL and not in a restaurant. Some are bothered by the hotel's proximity to the Nana district and think the hotel may get some associated business while others (myself) have not really noticed this unless looking hard to see it. The hotel was recently renovated and there are a few posts showing pictures. UGs are usually to the club level regular room where the bathrooms are interior (no outside glass wall) and feature rather small showers but great soaking tubs. Unlike the other hotels listed here, the toilets are not in enclosures.
- Renaissance Bangkok Ratchaprasong Hotel (Ren) 518/8 Ploenchit Road Khwaeng Lumphini, Khet Pathum Wan, Bangkok almost attached to the Chit Lom BTS Station and the SkyWalk. One can reach the platform without having to walk on public sidewalks and by using escalators/elevators in the building next door, so most feel this is the property with the fastest and easiest access to BTS. The CL is smaller than the JW's and sometimes gets full. Some elites report having a choice of the complimentary breakfast in the restaurant (which is quite good and huge) while others report having that request denied. Latest reports indicate the restaurant breakfast is offered as of April 2018. The hotel does not have many suites so UGs are usually to corner rooms which often have seating and/or dressing areas as well as larger bathrooms with full glass walls. IMO this is the best/most convenient hotel for a first timer looking to do typical touristy things in Bangkok.
- Courtyard by Marriott Bangkok (CY) 155/1 Soi Mahadlekluang 1 Ratchadamri Road Bangkok is about a five minute walk to either the Ratchadamri or Chit Lom BTS Stations. The hotel operates tuk-tuks to/from the BTS Station. The hotel has a CL and consistently offers elites a choice of breakfast there or in the restaurant. The CL is on the top floor of the hotel and has outdoor seating. Having stayed at the hotel several times as a P, PP and LTP I have never been given an UG, so if there are others who can chime in on that please do. The regular room has a small interior only bathroom with a window overlooking the room and no tub, only a walk-in shower. IMO the price can makes this a great choice, as it is convenient to many places a visitor will go. Sometimes it can be half the price of other Marriott options and they often run double points promotions. (Call the hotel to ask, it cannot hurt.)
- Bangkok Marriott Marquis Queen’s Park (Sukhumvit Soi 22) 199 ถนน สุขุมวิท ซอย 22 Khwaeng Khlong Tan, Khet Khlong Toei, กรุงเทพมหานคร 10110, Thailand is about an eight minute walk to the Emporium Mall and Phrom Phong BTS Station either down the Soi sidewalk or through Queen's Park. The hotel operates a regular shuttle to the BTS Station although some have reported trouble catching it back to the hotel. The CL is large, with an outdoor deck, and most people report not being given a choice for the complimentary breakfast in the restaurant. Most Plats report getting UG to a suite, with the M Suite seeming to be most common. It has a living room, bedroom and single large interior bathroom with separate walk-in showers and tubs. This is the largest hotel in Bangkok.
- Bangkok Marriott Hotel Sukhumvit (Sukhumvit Soi 57) 2 ถนน สุขุมวิท 57 Phra Khanong, Khlong Toei, กรุงเทพมหานคร 10110, Thailand ([email protected]) is a two minute walk to the Thong Lo BTS Station. Getting to the station involves crossing Thong Lo intersection which can be daunting. The hotel is about a ten minute BTS ride to the central malls, the Ren, etc. The area is a little quieter and more "Thai" than the more touristy/business area where the JW, Ren and CY are located. Some people report being able to have complimentary breakfast in the restaurant while others report lounge only. The CL is about the same size as the Ren's and can get crowded in the early evening. The hotel is on the higher floors of a 40+ story building and the CL is located on one of the top floors, offering stunning views of Bangkok. There is a rooftop bar on the top of the building with great views, too. Elites are often given a coupon for a free drink on the roof. Plats report mostly getting UGs to a two room suite with an extra half bath. The main bath includes an enclosed toilet, a single large walk-in shower and a large soaking tub that can easily seat two. (While the tub is large, the JW, Marquis and Ren tubs are more comfortable for a single person looking to lean back and relax.) IMO this is the quietest of the hotels listed here.
- Bangkok Marriott Hotel The Surawongse 262 Thanon Surawong, Khwaeng Si Phraya, Khet Bang Rak, Krung Thep Maha Nakhon 10500, Thailand is the newest hotel. As of April 2018 there are not many posts from users who have stayed, nor is there an abbreviation being commonly used on this forum. The hotel is not attached/close to a BTS or MRT station but is near the Silom business area and some more popular adult entertainment establishments.

As of 1130 am, there is no running water. They are providing bottled water and shuttling people to the Sukhumvit 24 apartments for showers -- about 30 minute drive, and who knows what the wait is.
Stuff happens, fine... but what really gets me is that the alarm didn't sound throughout the building. They had to send staff around, who gave a quick knock at each door to wake everyone up. I could see from the parking lot during the incident that people were still in the hotel, looking out the windows, wondering what was going on.

I'm at Marriott Marquis right now enjoying the lounge. Aside from the inordinate amount of staff on the floor and the very nice vittles and good selection of booze.... wait, I'm amazed at all of this.
The room is nothing special but at least it's one a few doors down from the lounge. The down side of that is the other tower, and parts of the lounge, have a view toward the room.
Rut Roh. We have a res for Soi 57 early next week. Guess I need to get on the ball and find out what's going on.

My only concern is alarm situation, and I was told they have engineers 'looking into it.'

Thanks again for your response. Since upgrade for Marriott gold is low, I won't hold out on the tub but it would be awfully nice! I just saw the thread from last year with the same question as mine (Ren or Suk 57) that was bumped up - I need to hone in on my searching skills. Again, really appreciate your information!

Pleasure. Your question had a unique set of circumstances. Ordinarily I'd recommend the Soi 57 or Marquis, but given the walking, leaving your mom, your sister possibly going out alone on a first visit, the Ren seems right. Those things seemed more important than the room or the lounge, which is what many of us have honed in on in earlier posts. The point: Don't feel bad about posting again to find a specific answer to your unique circumstance.
Hopefully you have checked out the Thailand thread for info on things like what to do, transportation within Bangkok (advice for taking taxis, Uber, the BTS and subway), tours and side trips. Also, if you are looking for a low impact activity with mom, cooking classes in Bangkok are cheap and fantastic. Cooking with Poo (her name) is my favorite. It includes a market tour. She is wonderful. Her story is inspiring. Her class is interactive and fun. Her recipes have proven very popular back home and are pretty easy.

Completed a four night stay at soi 57 with gold status. Was upgraded to a one bedroom suite. I've stayed at a lot of park hyatts and conrads and JWs etc. This was the nicest room I have ever had in a hotel or at least the largest. I mean people could get lost in the room. The views were good. The service was excellent. The lounge was very nice as well. I'm not sure why they do not offer waffles for breakfast though. There is a rooftop bar which is very nice but the prices for the drinks are absurd. The only problem is location. There is a sky train station nearby so for everything up to like 11:30-midnight you can easily get to areas like Nana, the weekend market, central and all the malls etc. Its pretty far to where the temples are. There isn't a ton of stuff near the hotel at night. There are more japanese restaurants than I saw in Tokyo and a couple of fast food places down the street, but in terms of nightlife you need to go elsewhere and after midnight you will need to deal with cabs. All in all its a great property and while the location isn't ideal for nightlife it could be considered a positive to be a bit away from the heavy tourist locations.

About 2 hr after checking in, and after a gym session, I went to turn the thermostat colder and it shut off. Mind you, it was tempermental upon entering the room but we got it to work. But this time it just shut down and wouldn't resume. Called down, told them about the faulty a/c and then..... crickets. NB: this was a few days after the fire from a short circuit. It's now 15 min later, no return contact, no a/c, the room is getting warm. I called again, told the front desk was busy. Placed on hold and then told someone would come up... FD never contacted us.
Moved to a nice room at least, much better than the 'closet' we had initially (smallest footprint on the floor xx06), not that that had any impetus upon desiring to move.
I also needed to experience two elevator cruises until reaching the lobby because twice my key needed to be recoded - both times the night of checkin.
We were not happy with the hotel to say the least and see no reason to return.
Oh, res in +1's name, Gold status.

There's a ton of bars and music up and down the mid-sois of Thong Lor (55) not to mention the host of restaurants.

I already mentioned the restaurants. I didn't come across many bars in the area. I didn't walk all the way down soi 55 although I walked quite a bit in the other direction as well as quite a way down the side street and all the way down the main road to the next skytrain stop. ::shrugs:: Sorry you had a poor stay. I would be annoyed too with being told the desk was busy and AC is non negotiable in the summer.
Out here, it's always summer.

BKK Marriott Sukhumvit - Review from March / June 2017
Some observations from two stays at this property (updates from July 2017 here: http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/28595075-post757.html):
Check In
Check-in was relatively quick at the Ground Floor lobby. I was given a letter stating what my Marriott Gold benefits are. I particularly appreciated the 2 x laundry per day benefit. Breakfast can be taken at the main restaurant near the lobby. I was escorted to the lift and made my own way to the room.
Room
I normally get upgraded to a Premier Deluxe Room which I think is the best room under a Suite.
Executive Lounge
The staff in the Executive Lounge are friendly and efficient with clearing plates and topping up drinks. The manager is pleasant and makes an effort to remember guests. It is a relatively small area and can get quite packed.
Afternoon tea - cakes and sandwiches rotate.
Happy Hour - food is available for 2 hours from 1730h and drinks for 4 hours. There is a 'pop up' bartender that mixes drinks / cocktails. There is one 'live' food station with a chef who makes various dishes (e.g. Japanese udon noodles, pad thai, papaya salad (see below)). All dishes seem to rotate on a daily basis. Some examples below:
Breakfast
Breakfast is extensive. The area is quite small and so there is an overflow into the main lobby area. The a la carte eggs are very decent. There is a 'create-your-own-noodle' station.
Gym
Sorry - I don't have any photos of the pool but it is surprisingly small. Anwyay, here are some photos of the gym
Overall
A great hotel and very good value for money as a Gold. Not sure what you get more as a Platinum but with the vile World of Hyatt coming in this year this is a great go-to property in Bangkok for me now.

Your pics have made me "second home" sick for the hotel. Especially for the pillows you have in one of your pics. Those are my favorite pillows anywhere.
