A more affordable option in Paris?
Considering the stratospheric prices in Paris, I was wondering whether anyone can recommend a Courtyard (or someplace else) in Paris or the suburbs? Easy access to a Metro or train station as well as good wi-fi are essential for me, however. Suggestions gratefully accepted.

Recently Stayed 3 nights at the La Defance Renaissance property. Great lounge, great room, AC was so-so. Overall, great property, not that far a walk to the metro.

There also are some good restaurants and sights to see in the area around the hotel.
The hotel is quite new - the exterior is traditional but the interior is very modern. Rooms are small but very functional and stylish. When we stayed there in April (and booked fairly far ahead), we got a rate of about 125 euros (not including breakfast - but there are lots of breakfast options nearby). Staff were friendly and professional.
There is also an Orange (telecom) store right beside the hotel, if you want to pick up a sim card or a pay-as-you-go phone.

I have just returned from a 50th wedding anniversary trip to Europe with my husband, which included 5 nights at the Marriott Renaissance Vendome property, using points, + cash to upgrade to a junior suite.
The big plus with this hotel is its location. We walked everywhere we intended to go (which wasn't all that far afield) and truly enjoyed sitting in the Tuileries gardens as well as riding the giant ferris wheel for the view one evening. We also walked to the Musee D'Orsay, the Galleries Lafayette for shopping, plus a stroll over to the 6e for dinner one evening. Our choice for a dinner boat ride on the Seine was also within walking distance. Truly, the location was a big plus for us old fogies.
A minus is the fact that even a junior suite was very small! It felt crowded. But we spent very little time in the room, so not a huge deal. Another minus is that the hotel lacks an executive lounge. But, breakfast was included, and the buffet was well-enough stocked with eggs, meat, cheeses, breads, yogurt, coffee, fruit, etc. We easily got filled and were good to go until an early dinner time each day.
We arrived by train (Gare du Nord) from Amsterdam (just 2 days before the same train that had a terrorist whose attempts to kill people were foiled by three Americans) and left by train (Gare de Lyon) to Zurich.
I would definitely return to this Paris Renaissance hotel, but probably would not spend the euros to upgrade! A small room would be adequate. The bed was very comfortable! I have no doubts in my mind that I saved a lot of $$ by using points for the basic stay of 5 nights. I'd do this again!

I'm looking at booking a stay in Paris in March 2016 for myself and family. 2 adults, 2 kids (age 7 and 5). When I search it seems like virtually all the hotels don't actually allow 4 people in a room unless you get large multi-bedroom suite. Is this normal in Paris? Plenty of rooms have 2 double beds which would work fine for us, but they are only occupancy 2. This is what we normally book for hotels in North America, but it just doesn't seem to exist in Paris. Just wondering if anyone has had similar difficulties and has any suggestions. Is this just the way it is there?

Just wanted to echo everything sim510 posted regarding the Renaissance Vendome. Location and hotel were perfect for us for 5 nts - we walked just about everywhere, and when we didn't we were close enough to 3-4 metro options too.
Also can't say enough about the staff - truly awesome. Attentive, friendly, smiling and really, really good in every single interaction. Took care of a couple special requests in seconds. I know it sounds like excessive praise, but the more I look back on it the more I appreciate it.
Booked points + 50 EUR/nt for a superior room (1 level up from base) and was told there was a technical issue at check in so got a Prestige (next level up). Still small in comparison to other cities, but more than big enough for us.

Where would you stay for 3 nights if points weren't an option, you're celebrating a honeymoon, and it's your first time in Paris? We will be spending 5 nights in London, then flying out of CDG. I want to be close to all the touristy, must-see places.

Recently stayed at Marriott Paris Rive Gauche. Reserved 1King or 2single/double. Got 1 King. No perceived upgrade as platinum. I got a higher floor than my no status colleague but same room.
Excellent lounge breakfast and evening food. Lounge is large but got pretty full in the evening. Two hot dishes and charcuterie, cheese, raw vegetables and bread. They kept replacing the hot dishes very promptly. Complimentary Beer, wine and bottled soft drinks/water.

No problem walking around day or night near the hotel.
There was a 1 day housekeeping strike during my stay. No notification in advance that there was a labor dispute. My associate's wife said they were marching in front of the hotel for a couple hours banging pans but they were gone when I returned to my uncleaned room. I got some clean towels and no big deal since I was checking out the following morning. Lounge was unaffected.

So I am planning a "budget" trip to Paris. Have several nights booked at the Rive Gauche which I know I like (see earlier posts in this thread)
But I will have two Cat 5 stay certificates and was thinking that the way to use them would be at one of the Courtyards in Paris
Options are
Aruceil
St. Denis
La Defense
I am leaning towards St. Denis if I decide to go this route, but wondered if anyone had other thoughts.
(I honestly may just pay at the Rive Gauche, but... considering my options!)

"Used one at the Courtyard St. Denis Paris a few weeks ago, a little bit out of central Paris but would have cost about $175 for the night IIRC."
So you might want to PM him/her & get some further input.
Cheers.

We stayed at the Arcueil this time last year and it was perfectly good. About 5-10 minutes walk to a Metro station (about 15 minutes to central Paris). Rooms were more than acceptable and a shopping mall just over the road, containing a supermarket and some great macarons. We used a Cat 5 certificate. Didn't eat so can't speak to the food.

Ren Vendome is the obvious choice. One block off world-famous designer shopping avenue Rue Saint-Honore, and walking distance to most major attractions. A romantic, boutique-like property done in tasteful contemporary fashion. But, room prices are likely to be higher than some of the other Marriott/Renaissance properties, and you will very likely be assigned to a nicely equipped, but smallish room--unless you pay for a significant upgrade. But on a honeymoon and only staying for 3 nights, I can't think of a better choice.
