New York City EDITION [Master Thread]

Scheduled to open in May according to press release today. Marriott has sold it but will retain long-term management (seems to be doing that w/ the Editions; all of them combined have sold for $816 million).

Manhattan’s first EDITION in landmark Clock Tower Building Scheduled to Open in May

The New York EDITION sits directly across from Madison Square Park, centrally located on 24th Street and Madison Avenue. Originally built in 1909 as the headquarters for The Metropolitan Life Insurance Company, the historic 41-story clock tower is a New York landmark. The hotel’s interior, designed by world-renowned architect David Rockwell, will evoke the intimacy of a private home. The New York EDITION will feature 273 guest rooms and suites with spectacular views of the city as well as a restaurant, versatile meeting and event space, an intimate lobby bar; and a state-of-the-art fitness center and spa.

Cheers.

The above press release is over the top, just like the Miami Edition's was, and was probably written by the Schrager side. It certainly doesn't read like a typical Marriott press release.

Looks like it's officially open (or soft open?). No category yet listed on hotel's website. Rates starting at 675 according to website.

Cheers.

I am a big fan. The London and Miami hotels are extremely popular based on TripAdvisor. I have allocated more of my US travel to Marriott just so I can earn more points to redeem at the Edition hotels. It is hard to find a single W hotel that is better than the London or Miami Edition. I look forward to visiting the New York version. Marriott needs to get many more of these built.

Edition Hotel Opens in New York

I've lived to see Marriott and Studio 54 in the same article.

Cheers.

From http://www.ritzcarlton.com/en/Proper...on/Default.htm

"The New York EDITION is a Tier 5 property in The Ritz-Carlton Rewards."

Thanks for the info. That also explains the RC contact for the press release. Wonder if the other Editions are also in the RC category.

Cheers.

The "2015 Hotel Category/Tier Changes" PDF document had these changes for EDITION properties:

EDITION Istanbul -- from Category 8 to Tier RZ3
EDITION London -- from Category 9 to Tier RZ3
EDITION Miami Beach -- from Category 9 to Tier RZ5

It seems that the EDITION brand is being positioned as the hip sibling of Ritz-Carlton, with similarly high prices. I expect all future EDITION properties to be positioned in The Ritz-Carlton Rewards tiers.

Maybe some day there will be an EDITION property that's "only" at Tier 1.

The New York EDITION will be at the top (Tier 5), right from the start.

It's priced like an RC. Rack rates are $700+ and a large NY client's (located nearby) corporate rate is over $500.

i saw an OTA booking rate at mid 300s recently for NY Edition.. may try to do a weekend here in the next few months, been going to the JW Marriott Essex property recently.

I just booked this hotel with a Ritz Rewards Credit card retention certificate that was just deposited into my account.

It is a Tier 4 property

Marriott Rewards
Tier:4

Not sure when it changed - but now it is only Tier 3.

And with rooms at 220 square feet, they can keep it...

Had a great one night stay here.

The Hotel staff are great.

My room was not ready when I arrived early so they sent me to the bar and said get whatever you want on us.

I had an iced tea but wanted a muffin......they sent a staff member to a bakery and got me one since nothing was left from Breakfast.

Room was ok.....a bit small but fresh and fun.

The breakfast in the Restaurant was just so-so.

The staff there were full of attitude and minimal service was offered.
Everything had to be requested and the hostess was down right rude.
Not a great way to start the day.

Thanks for the update. Glad part of the stay was ok. Too bad about the restaurant staff.

Cheers.
