Le Méridien Suvarnabhumi Golf Resort & Spa, Bangkok, Thailand [Master Thread]

I'm here now. Flew in on the redeye from HND. Arrived 0530 local time. Taxi costs about 160 baht plus 50 baht airport surcharge. Best to have the address written out in Thai plus have the cabbie call the hotel to confirm directions.

The area around the resort looks industrial and very not built up. There is some signage; be sure to follow the arrows. The area outside the hotel/golf resort is not developed a whole lot.

Once you get here...

Excellent platinum recognition. Got the choices and took the points. Staff was very chipper at dark o'clock in the morning (closer to 0600).

As of today, the hotel has been open for three weeks. Basically, their soft opening. One tower is open and the other two are under construction. No lounge or spa yet. Compensated with beverages and cocktail hour at the lobby bar. And as usual with a soft opening, there was some hiccups. First room I was assigned, was recently occupied. Looks like they did the early check out (probably to catch an early flight). Second room had no power. Eep. Third room on the 6th floor at the end of the hotel was fine.

Room has new hotel smell and AC that works great. New beds! ^

Since I was up ANYWAY, I decided to hit the breakfast buffet. This is the earliest I've been up for breakfast. They had western and Japanese breakfast and a very complete bread area with vegemite, different kinds of honey and toppings. The waffles and pancakes were fine with the usual toppings. ^^

Keep in mind that the fare to the airport should be the same as coming from the airport. The hotel called a taxi for pickup at 0600. He had no meter and tried to ask for 300 baht. I told him that the fare should be 150 and gave him such along with the 20 baht call surcharge.

Photos forthcoming...

Thanks for the report abraxis! Look forward to the pics!

At THB 160 on the meter, it would seem this is pretty far from the airport. About 25 mins away?

schoflyer Dec 7, 2014 12:29 am

Spg.com says 15 min, 13km, 150THB estimate taxi fare.

Review - November 2014

I stayed here last week so I will throw in my 2 cents worth. If you are planning on staying here I would highly suggest that you get the address of the hotel and location written down in Thai. Once you have that I would also recommend that BEFORE you get in a taxi that you have the driver call the hotel so he knows where to go as this hotel is really new. The cost for me to get to the hotel from BKK was 177 THB (127 THB + 50 THB (airport surcharge)). There is not much signage for the hotel which I brought up to them and I was told they are working on it. I had a 4pm flight from BKK and since I was traveling in First I wanted to arrive early to enjoy the lounge. The hotel is not along the main road so it is difficult to get taxis unless you call for one or unless someone is dropping off at the hotel or adjacent golf course. I was able to get one due to someone being dropped off. The driver refused to use the meter saying premium taxi and no meter, but clearly there was a meter that was covered with a towel. I was charged 150 THB for the ride back to the airport which took between 12-15 minutes. I don't know why but I really despise the taxi mafia in BKK after so many bad experiences trying to get to the airport.

As for the hotel it is a really nice property and ideal for a transit or quick overnight in BKK if you don't feel like going all the way to town. As I was here on a weekend the property was 3000 Starpoints or 2000 Starpoints + $35. From what I was told only 2 of the 5 buildings are open and certain amenities (spa/lounge) aren't open yet, but they are expecting to open in Q1 2015. I was assigned room 531 and was escorted to the room by one of the staff. Overall the room was very spacious and had a large bathroom and a small, but usable living area. There was also a balcony with a large sofa outside should you wanted to sit outside and enjoy the view of the golf course. Wifi worked well from my room and the speed was good.

Breakfast was offered in the restaurant but due to a late arrival I was really jet lagged and decided to pass on breakfast. Drinks were also offered in the bar area which you will pass on your way to the guest rooms. If I am not mistaken they are offered throughout the day. I didn't see what was being offered, but maybe abraxis or skywalkerLAX can chime in on this. The infinity pool was of decent size and at the time there was only 1 person enjoying it. The view from the pool was towards the golf course. Overall a pleasant stay other than the taxi issues.

Hotel shuttle to BTS schedule

skywalkerLAX Dec 7, 2014 5:01 am

Yep I stayed there as well since I like in the city and wanted to try it out.

Considering the Drama with BKK Taxis and I estimated what a PITA it would be to find the hotel (ok, I could have used UBER but well...) I decided to give the Shuttle a try. The instructions on how to find it which I was given by the concierge were confusing at best. I ended up waiting in front of the general shuttle stop for the Mega Bangna Bus.

The concierge also told me that Suites are available for Platinum Guests (mind you, this was before I placed my reservation) which surprised be because it contradicts the info on the website. But given that I said ok and booked it. Obviously arriving at the hotel I was told Suites were not open yet and the guy made a mistake. I said that's not my problem and they should open one up which happened short after.

The Suite on the lower floor is pretty nice and spacious, I like the arrangement. Furniture was a bit of a mix between W and Le Meridien.

The happy hour in the bar is nice and the snack dishes are actually full size meals. I really had to stuff myself because I ordered all three snacks in estimation of it being a tiny lounge dish. The drinks are ok but only provides for two mixed cocktails: Caipirinha and Mai Tai plus the usual spirits.

Overall a very solid option at the bar as long as the lounge is not operational. But sorry, the air condition is unacceptable. It's like 19 degrees with the outside being 35. You are freezing to death in there!

The restaurant breakfast was nice and plentiful. I actually like the outside seating if there is fresh air in the morning (obviously if you eat late and it goes towards 11am it's not an ideal place).

I found the staff to be friendly and helpful. At the current rates (SPG wise) a true bargain. Undoubtedly this will go up once the property established itself and gets filled up. We shall see. :)

Wow! Thanks for posting these reviews, and thanks for posting those Thai directions kluau88. I have a stay here toward the end of the month because I must overnight in BKK before my flights home. It looked closest to BKK on the map, so I figured why not. Will report back later.

schoflyer Dec 7, 2014 1:33 pm

I have 2 stays coming up.
One on the way out of BKK (08:00 departure) and on the way in (22:45 arrival). Looking forward to this property in early 2Q ;)
Weekday Stays so I chose C&P

Very useful reviews, folks. Thanks for posting them.

For historical purposes as well as relevant and recent information when this new thread was strangely started, here's the initial thread for this hotel that ran from Mar 2007 to Dec 2014:

Nice to see the hotel is finally open!

I'm back on property today. Got the same room as pictured above. Air in the room is very bad, can barely breathe. Had to get an air cleaning machine, lets see how it goes. Can always go back home if necessary as I'm just here for the stay credit anyway. But since I like the breakfast I'd actually prefer to stay till tomorrow.

Thanks for the review and great pics, kluau88. I'm very much looking forward to my stay next month.

I'm here now for a 2 night stay, checked in at 9am this morning after a red eye from CDG. Had taxi issues since I wasn't properly prepared, ended up overpaying. Definitely have the address written in Thai or their phone number at the ready. Driver was fine after speaking with them.

I've seen a total of 3-4 other groups of guests all day. Only saw one person in the pool. Have really enjoyed the Latest Recipe restaurant, the mackerel appetizer is amazing. They were also very kind to serve us pad thai at 9:30am. They seemed disappointed that we didn't want the breakfast buffet, but we had already had "breakfast" on the plane at 6am. The service is a bit overwhelming sometimes; the ratio of staff to guests is rather high as one might imagine in a new hotel.

While the spa isn't open, you can access massage for 300 baht/hour at the golf club house until 6pm. Not the best, but it's there.

Oh, and I'm in a room on the second floor. Looks exactly like the pictures above with two doubles. Although it seems our deck is missing the table.

Me as well. Want to meet for breakfast? :p

Sidenote: I'm not happy with this stay.

-Happy Hour: Staff forgot my order 4 times
-Bar Benefit: One Soda in the afternoon ended up on my account as a charge
-Room smells outrageous, even an air purifier didnt help.
-The pillows smell moldy, took on the same stench as the room. I had to put them on the balcony.
-Bathtub water brownish colored.
-Elevator right across from the room woke me up at 4am and kept me on my toes till now (it's 7am) 'Ding Ding Ding'

Was happy last time when I got the suite but these rooms and particular the one across the elevator are unacceptable locations for a PLT Room. :td:

I noticed that the doors didn't do well in soundproofing as I could hear stuff in the hallway when they were doing work outside.
