Hi,

I have a booking for one night here before an early morning flight the next day. Would be nice if I can get some info on

- Plat benefits? (should I leave BKK early to enjoy the surroundnig/place or just arrive and sleep?)

- Coming from the city (am leaning to using the BTS) - is the shuttle from the mall frequent to the hotel?

- the 200 THB shuttle fees, is that one way? Need transportation to the airport at around 4 am

Cheers!

Had a stay here between June 6th and 8th, stayed around the same period last year. Quick overview:
  • Like my stay last year, I was upgraded from a Grande Deluxe Room to a Grande Suite with a living room, separate bedroom, walk-in closet, huge bathroom and two balconies.
  • At check-in, you choose one option between breakfast, points or local amenity [cool flip-flops printed with images of the hotel, LM-branded on the bands].
  • No lounge at the hotel. Last year, Plat benefits included two alcoholic beverages at the Latitude Bar in the lobby and a platter of hors d'oeuvres per guest. While the two drink policy still stands, the food offering has now been upgraded to include a small buffet consisting of cheeses, salads, hot nibbles and desserts. Non-alcoholic beverages are offered all day at the bar at no charge.
  • Further Plat perks include discounts at the Italian restaurant and spa, as well as laundry of two items.
  • Breakfast is an extensive spread and worth the points trade-off. Do note that there is a skew towards Chinese offerings with lots of rice, congee and other related accoutrements as the hotel gets a lot of Chinese guests who are there for the golf course.

All in all, I loved my stay. This is a beautiful, quiet resort on lovely grounds with stellar staff. While a full lounge is always appreciated, Plat treatment is excellent considering resorts don't traditionally offer lounge settings, the food offering was upgraded and the staff do their best to make you feel special. I'd easily go back.

We stayed there for 3 nights in November 17 and agree with everything that khabah noted. The only negative was how many taxi drivers had problems finding it. The drinks and platter of hors d'oeuvress we got ( no buffet in November) more than replaced any lounge. Free coffee, cappuccinos and soft drinks etc in the bar in the afternoon was also elcome. We felt it was a great resort and were very happy we used those days there to get our body clocks adjusted to local time.

Unlimited non-alcoholic beverages at the bar is a pretty good benefit if you ask me. Only other place I have heard of doing that is the Sheraton Mirage Gold Coast.

Just completed a thoroughly enjoyable 2-night stay at this property. Would definitely return again.

Was upgraded to a 1 bedroom suite with double balcony and view of the golf course. The golf course is outstanding and bordered by many large mansions - I assume this must be a well-to-do residential area nearby.

Platinum members get 20% off dining and 15% off at the spa. As others have indicated there is free flow non-alcoholic drinks all day at Latitude Bar, with the evening "club" service in the bar including 2x alcoholic drinks per person and a small buffet of pastries, ham, cheese and other appetisers. Friendly service throughout. Quality of breakfast and lunch in the main restaurant was very good, and the Italian restaurant is very authentic. Highly recommended.

Le Meridien Suvarnabhumi Bangkok Golf Resort = More than Airport Hotel

Le Meridien Suvarnabhumi Bangkok Golf Resort = More than Airport Hotel (5 Photos)

Le Meridien Suvarnabhumi, Bangkok Golf Resort & Spa

I had a 1-night airport layover in BKK and I have never been a fan of the overpriced and aging Novotel so I tried Le Meridien this time.  The points redemption has decreased to 12.5k pts per night in August making this hotel a decent use of points unlike the previous 21k point level (7k Starpoints).

Location

There is a shuttle bus from the airport but you need to pay 250 THB each way for it for a single traveller, and they quoted me 400 THB each way for a couple.  They gave me a fixed pick-up time based on my flight arrival time and I was informed that they could not wait more than 5 minutes due to airport regulations.  I thought if we get our suitcases early we’ll have to wait needlessly and if our flight is delayed we just miss the shuttle? Not the most customer-friendly shuttle. I did not want to worry about timing, so we took the taxi instead, which cost 200 THB.  The hotel is actually not that close to the airport – it took about 15 minutes.  I guess this is why the Novotel costs more: you are right by the airport and there is a free shuttle.

Room

The hotel and the hotel grounds are very nice, as obviously this is more of a golf resort rather than an airport hotel.  As a Plat+AMB I was upgraded to a very nice suite without asking, and interestingly they noted in my welcome letter my AMB status. As far as I know my Ambassador did not contact them ahead of time so it’s good to see hotels being aware of the distinction between Plat75 and Plat100 which was not always the case before. I don’t recall ever having such a nice room in any airport hotel in the past, and I did not want to check out after only one night!  I am not a golfer, but if I was I would think this is a great place to be.  The room is very large and has a separate living room from the bedroom so it’s a proper suite.  The bathroom is very large including a big round bathtub and a large shower area.  There is also a terrace in front of both the living room and bedroom with views of the golf course.  Everything is in good condition and the room is built to a high standard – I was quite impressed.

Dining

There is a Platinum happy hour where we get two free drinks but I arrived too late and missed it.  I also chose the points and skipped breakfast so I cannot comment, but I stopped by to take a look and I could see that they have an excellent spread and food presentation was attractive.

Overall

Overall it’s a great hotel for golfing, but for an airport layover it is a bit unusual.  If you arrive in BKK at a time where there is not much traffic you could be in the city in 30 minutes, so not much longer than to reach LM near the airport. Also some hotels are cheaper in the city and many have a Club Lounge, although you will pay more for taxi.  The Novotel is often 1k-2k THB more than LM and is not a nice property overall.  Some folks who want a true airport hotel for the convenience and only a hotel bed might not mind paying extra for Novotel but personally I think whether it takes 5 minutes or 15 minutes to reach the hotel it’s not a big deal. In the future for a layover I would consider returning to LM.

We may have been two ships in the night - I was there October 24th to 27th. Love the property - stellar staff, high-quality rooms, a generous upgrade to a garden-access suite on the first floor and the usual Plat benefits of 20 percent off F&B, 15 percent off spa, evening buffet and two free drinks makes this place such a belter. Bangkok itself might be exciting to be in, but the nature and solitude of this place incites no FOMO.

Indeed we were there at the same time, too bad I missed out meeting one of the most informative FT contributors such as yourself!

Stayed at this hotel twice recently: on arrival to Thailand, and the night before early BKK departure.

Very nice hotel, tucked away on some golf course.

Decent and well maintained property with a nice [seawater?] pool.

Good food in their restaurant (forget the name....not the overpriced Italian one), and very friendly staff.

For some reason, on both stays, there was no coffee in the room.

Would stay there again, for sure.

Some pics:

Side note: using OFFLINE MAPS my phone erroneously took us to this neat place very close to the hotel when approaching the property from the South:
