Aloft Manhattan Financial District, New York [Master Thread]

Did a search and couldn't find anything on this hotel in the forum - a search for NYC hotels notes that there's an Aloft opening in the Financial District of Manhattan on August 28. Hotel website is up at https://www.starwoodhotels.com/prefe...ropertyID=3647. It appears to be across the street from the J train and a block away from the A/C/2/3. It doesn't appear to be taking reservations as of yet.

There are a bunch of hotels opening in NYC and elsewhere...the list is here:

Sounds like a great option, between the Alofts in Harlem (where I've stayed often, near the A/B/C/D) and Brooklyn. Looking forward to its opening.

Warning about Manhattan Aloft

I made a reservation for the Manhattan Aloft in March. I bought airline tickets, made dinner reservations, and promised my son a special vacation exploring NYC. Today, less than 48 hours before check in, I received an email saying that construction was months behind schedule and the hotel wasn't open. When I called the platnum consierege, Charlie offered to rebook me at the W, but only if I was willing to may the additional ~$300 per night in additional cost. Thanks, Starwood, for only charging me ~$1,000 to fix the your mistake.

That sounds wrong. I'd not accept that and call again

SOP in these situation si to offer you a stay elsewhere at the same price and possibly a free night upon opening.

Sounds similar to Hyatt and Baha Mar property. SOL was their response.

Just to be clear, this is the Aloft Manhattan Downtown - Financial District which has had its opening pushed back month after month for almost a year now.

I was thinking the same thing.

As a reminder to the forum, changes are to be expected and when booking a new build [and potentially with a renovated/partially closed] property.

When researching, it should be a given, there could be issues, beyond Starwood/SPGs control, that cause delays with an opening and the person booking should have a backup plan.

This is one of those "FlyerTalk 101" things I learned many years ago.

Hopefully, all will work out for the OP.

That may be true, but I think a hotel needs to be more proactive than 48 hours advance notice and providing alternative accommodations at a comparable rate (which is not $300/nt more).

Agree that hopefully SLIII and team can resolve the matter.

The hotel should not be scheduling bookings it likely will not be able to keep. I think a comp stay during this time at any of the other Starwood properties in NYC would be the right thing here, and to not allow more bookings until a firmer opening date is set.

I totally agree. I'm not in construction, but I would think the developers would know, what's going on and communicate that to the owner and the owner to Starwood/SPG.

I'm shocking they told the OP, they would need to fork over additional money. Hopefully the lurkers will work this out and they'll probably end up in a better location.

I don't agree. All hotels set "target" opening dates and the majority move. Which is why people should have a back up.

I don't think the OP deserves a comp stay, just a relocation to another SPG property at the same rate.

Perhaps SPG throws in a room upgrade, or maybe SPG comps a meal, due to the lack of communication and added travel related stress.

Whilst construction may take longer than expected there was no need to take reservations u til confidence in the schedule was high enough to compensate those inconvenienced by a delayed opening.
