I hope it hasn't been delayed to September; I hold a reservation for late August.

Well as far as I am informed, the property is scheduled to open on April 6th. Now I have been to Langkawi and it is definitely an edifying and memorable experience.

So let me share the property's SOP and welcome you to explore this resort at the southern tip of Langkawi.

I'm a little confused about the room types here. It appears that the room type awards book into, Premier Rainforest, is only available for award (points/C&P/free night) bookings, but not revenue bookings. For the latter, the lowest type seems to be St Regis Suite. Did this hotel create a separate room category specifically for awards?

Based on the labels for the room pictures, it appears the "standard room" is the Premier, with either forest or sea facing variants.

jpdx, you're right - it also seems that they have not uploaded any revenue rates for the these standard rooms, by intention or otherwise.

Phew, for a moment I thought that the base rate was USD500 and up!

Perhaps those rooms aren't ready yet? Might that mean that upcoming award bookings will end up in a suite (regardless of status)?

In any case, I'm glad that this property doesn't seem to be playing games along the lines of IC Thalasso's "Family Suites" (which for a while were a separate room category created for awards only -- converted staff quarters used for award stays, even though the resort is an all-OWB property).

Exactly what I was telling my wife and why we didn't want to book the award! Odd...

Looks like this hotel is now a Category 7 (up from Cat 6?) I'm surprised, as this hotel was NOT one of the ones scheduled for the March 1 Category Changes. Not very impressed with this unannounced category change!

Noticed this last night too. I was also surprised it wasn't an announced increase given the high room rates. I have an award reservation for next spring at the cat 6 rates. Looks like I'll have to make those dates work or kiss it goodbye...

It probably didn't make the cut off date for the announcements.

Then it should have waited until next year's category adjustments, no?
It was my understanding that hotels only adjust their categories once a year - and for this year, that was 3/1 (with an advanced notice of about 10 days this year).

Like any program in the world, T&Cs can change anytime.

If i need to pay for any (spg) hotel at the rate of 1000$+++ a night.

That hotel would be st. Regis bora bora or al maha in dubai.

Property is open

Seems the lowest price shown for this place is just under US$500.

Not sure why it's pricing in USD instead of local MYR as compared to the other Starwood properties. There's also complimentary airport transfer between LGK and the resort supposedly in a Bentley.

We are pleased to offer complimentary transfers to and from Langkawi International Airport upon request. In addition, local transfers can be arranged for a fee. A maximum of four guests can be accommodated.
