You have lots of great options 5 weeks out. What is your date?

Check the UK & Ireland forum for restaurant suggestions. They have a few threads on the topic.

Cheers.

Saturday 25th June. We'll have a 6 year old and a 4 year old with us, which restricts us a bit...

For fine dining with kids, hotel locations are often a good idea because they are used to adapting to the needs of a varied clientele. In London, there are lots of excellent chefs with restaurants in hotels. Though I would avoid Ramsey's hotel locations and only do the flagship Royal Hospital Road location, you might consider Theo Randall at the Intercontinental or Roux at the Landau. Berner's Tavern at the London Edition is very good, though I don't think that the food is extremely special. It would, however, be fine with kids. Though it is a bit late for a family, there is a spot for four at Dinner by Heston Blumenthal at 21:30.

I also recommend calling The Ledbury and asking to be placed on a wait list in case a table opens up, as it would be my first choice for an anniversary.

It's pain to get to (in Wandsworth), but Chez Bruce is excellent and very well priced. I think they'd be fine for kids. Definitely took our son there when he was young. If you don't mind hopping on the train, I recommend it highly.

Other well thought of spots with tables for four include Quilon, Rasoi or Veeraswamy for luxe Indian. There are also tables at Hedone.

If you let me know a bit more about the type of food you like/dislike and the sort of atmosphere you are seeking, I can be more precise in my suggestions.

So we stayed at St Ermin's last night. We had a family room booked and were upgraded to a suite. All 4 of us (2 adults, 2 kids) got free breakfast and we got a bottle of prosecco and some truffles for our 10th wedding anniversary. Managed to get an extra hour as late checkout. Lovely hotel, great room, great breakfast (apart from out-of-date yoghurts), great location, great treatment as Marriott Gold. Definitely considering keeping my points to stay here again next time we go to the theatre. Would recommend to those looking for a room for 4 in central London.

The only 2 minor negative points were that the room windows are all "whited" out, so the only natural light is if you open them. Also, I dealt with 3 receptionists and all seemed to be non-native English speakers and I struggled a little bit to understand them. I think front-of-house is important in high quality hotels. I felt the reception staff had patchy English and this didn't give the same level of experience the rest of the hotel seemed to be trying and managing to give.

Staying at St. Ermin's now. All the staff is very caring and no problems with language. Our windows face the front and are clear, as are all the windows I can see.

Our "premium queen" room is "big city" small, but very well appointed and comfortable. The location is great, close to lots of things, but on a quiet side street. The free buffet breakfast is top quality. Having fun in London!

Glad the trip went well! Where did you end up dining on the 25th?

We ate at Ichi Riki (http://www.ichi-riki.net/main3.htm) as the kids love sushi/sashimi and it was 5 minutes' walk from St Ermin's. It was nice, if a little less special than I'd hoped for.

Thanks for your previous suggestions. I did read them all, just been busy so opted for close and low-risk since had young kids in tow.

Just stayed at St ermine's AGAIN!! Never a disappointment! If you do not eat at the Sanctuary house pub, you should be committed! It had been consistent the past two years in ambience, FOOD and service. I love this place and book my hotel based on them!

For what it's worth I'd suggest a London taxi service my nephew who lives in London recommended. Ph. 011 44 20 8838 3299. They will meet you at and take you to the airport for what I thought was more reasonably priced than others I've used. Haven't been for almost two years so hope they're still around. Enjoy.

Question Five-night stay

Would you recommned this property for first time London visitors?

(Their other choices are St. Pancras and Marble Arch.)
