crparadise.com is a good company to arrange transport to/from hotel, as well as tours. Hat tip to VickiSoCal (12/12/20 Update: I just called the number on their website and the phone number is disconnected. I used https://liberiaairportshuttle.com/ instead and was very happy with their communication/service/professionalism.)

Sunset cocktail is actually not served every day but only Wed and Sun. The funny part is they have list prices - Sunset cocktail is 40 USD pp etc
So why do they show the "prices" if these activities are all included in the resort fee? Presumably solely in order to justify said fee

Many hotels offer activities to non-guests.

Yeah I'm sure they've got hordes of non-guests lining up for JW Guanacaste's sunset cocktail at $40 a pop

You said "activities", not that specific one.
There is a resort fee. Unlike other properties that charge resort fees, this is a resort, and there are actual resort activities. A guest (or family member of a guest) made the mistaken assumption that every activity was offered every day or on demand. I'm not sure there is much else to be said.

Not a single pop but you can order as much as you want during approx 90 min duration until actual sunset into the dark. I've never seen anyone actually pay though.

I think we've narrowed down our stay in Costa Rica to this property for 5 nights.

How well does this hotel do in terms of SNA upgrades?

Also in terms of the location, can we walk into town like at the W or will we need some sort of transportation.

Tamarindo isn’t nothing, but it’s fairly minimal.

When I first visited Tamarindo in the late 80’s, it was an arduous trip from San Jose on seemingly endless dirt roads to get to it.

Tamarindo is certainly a town. But it is a 30 minute drive away from this hotel.

Hence why I said there was no town to walk to from this hotel.

Are taxis readily available at the hotel to head into town?

Tours with pickup/drop off hotel?

So it's pretty isolated , I get it, What about seeing wildlife and natural sights without a car?
Are there half day or day tour operators? How long a drive would they need to drive you just to get to their "starting point o sights?
