If a property has a different family policy, they must state it on their Announcements page. In this case, there is no mention of a different family policy, so you can assume that a child is anyone who is 17 and under.

That being determined, the award is then limited to two adults and children stay free. However, adding any additional bedding or a third adult may add additional charges to the award booking.

I hope that helps.

Thank you for your quick response. My kids are both under 17 so it works out.

Anyone stay here recently? I was reading on the TA reviews that you can access the Mandala Beach Club but someone said they paid 200 pesos ($11) entrance fee which is used as credit toward their purchases at Mandala Beach Club and another review said Aloft gives you a free voucher to access MBC.

We are going with a family of four so I wanted to know if someone can verify how much it costs to access the Mandala Beach Club.

Also, does this hotel provide airport transfer, if so, how much? Thanks

Anyone?

What's the taxi from the airport?

The hotel quoted me $85 rt. I booked Canada Transfers and it was $65 rt. There are others but this was the cheapest I found searching on TA.

I just completed a 4 night stay at the aloft cancun. It is a non resort, non beach front property, city hotel. Connected to convention center.

I did not want to stay at a resort, plus this hotel offers great value during peak spring break time at only 3k/4K points per night.

As SPG Plat, I received an early check in, 4pm checkout. Welcome drink vouchers redeemable at lobby or pool. I chose pool. Also upgrade to top floor (10th). Corner room, with ocean views. Depending on room, you can have obstructed views or lagoon view. I had a very nice view, though windows were dirty. Free wifi, valet parking and full breakfast that included egg station and self service mimosa and bloody mary bar.

Rooms are basic, but comfortable, standard aloft decor. Mini fridge, safe, 2 large bottles of water daily. No tubs, just shower. Beds are queen, not doubles, so plenty of room. Rooms are spacious enough, but not huge.

Medium size rooftop pool. Free valet parking. It was hot but AC kept room pretty cool.

2 beaches, 2 blocks away. Caracol, on left, is small. Forum, on right, is larger (behind cocobongo). Mandala Beach club deal is still valid, but now costs 400 pesos vs 200 before currency devalued. Still ~US$20. Kids free. 9am-5pm.

There is a new, 2 year old, high end supermarket less than 100 yards from hotel. 2nd floor has eat in options, including some good ceviche, pizza, etc.

As expected, a young crowd.

All my interactions with staff were great. Housekeeping did a great job.

Wifi was slow to medium speed. Noise was not an issue despite being next to clubs.

Overall a great stay. I would recommended pairing it with the first or last day(s) of a resort stay.

Stayed here for a night before flying out after staying at Hyatt Zilara. As a hotel it was clean and nice enough for a crash pad before our flight. The problem was the guests in the room next door. I never saw them but I'm guessing it was a group of 18ish year old girls. At some point after I fell asleep they must have come back to their room and were playing loud music while having yelling conversations over it with the occasional shrieking scream. I tried to sleep through it assuming it would stop but it didn't really, and I called the front desk (at about 1:30am) and they seemed to take care of it - I think they actually left and went to another room. Of course, at this point it took me an hour to fall back asleep. Once I did, I heard them loudly come back into the room (literally screaming) before they seemingly went to sleep also. I don't think this a poor reflection on the hotel (since they took care of the issue when I asked), but possibly on the guests they attract. I only stayed one night so maybe this is an isolated incident, but these guests were bizarrely rude and ruined my stay there.

It would appear that this property has been upgraded to a category 3? A shame as it was useful for quick stops pre/post- Zilara

Yes, this happened last Feb. Their cash rates are on par with a good BRG rate at Westin Cancun, making a stay here a bit pointless.

YES! Thats my advice to everyone. I tend to fly in late on a Thursday night, stay at the Aloft, then head to the Hyatt Ziva first thing in the morning.

Just completed a 3 night stay here. Was a great little hotel in Cancun.

PROS:
- Great Location. Walk to beaches, supermarket (a really nice one) and pharmacies, some good Mexican restaurants nearby.
- Nice rooftop pool with ample seating
- Good drinks at the rooftop bar
- Friendly staff (hotel check-in/out and pool)
- Good AC, decent Aloft beds.
- Good value ($95/night++ for my dates)
- Good security.
- Not overcrowded (for my dates, anyway)
- Room had a nice ocean view (10th floor)

CONS:
- Without the AC on, walls are a bit thin. That said, I didn't hear any parties like some posters above.
- Some overbearing staff (Tours for sale as you exit the elevator, offering a Taxi as you exit daily, etc)
- Not oceanfront, or lagoon front but for the price I was ok with the short walk.
- limited shelving in rooms for unpacking clothing items (seemed less than your 'usual' Aloft).

It's been a couple of years since the last review was posted. We stayed here one night (even though we booked two) to make an appointment in Cancun and just wanted something simple. Well, I think in the two years since the last review little if any maintenance has been done to the property.

Pros: I'll agree with the above poster that the staff is great and friendly, the beds nice and comfortable, and not overcrowded.

Cons: Everything else: dirty, broken furniture (even in my "upgrade"), shower not cleaned and mildewy, towels not fully provisioned, no coffee/tea in the room, broken/rusted desk chair, and much more.

We left after one night -- it's become quite a pit.

I am planning to stay here in Cancun for the first time. What's the beach like there? Caracol vs Forum? Are the beaches nice warm and shallow with soft sand? What's the deal with Mandala Beach club? I am travelling alone so I'd like to spend a few hours on the beach without the risk of theft.

Since I had a great experience a number of years ago, I returned last November for one night stay and this place has gone downhill. So bad that I suggest you stay elsewhere. Rundown. The only change is that now they give you a wristband and it is an all you can drink hotel. (cheap drinks). Breakfast was sad. Went from a cook to order champagne breakfast to a handful of prepackaged items. Still good location for bars, shopping, etc. Before it was a points bargain with SPG, now 20K Bonvoy, what a joke. It is +$120. I did a BRG.

But to answer your question, Caracol beach is small, Forum is larger and it gets nicer if you walk NE towards Hyatt Ziva.

Theft, I don't think you will get mugged, maybe if you leave your items unattended at the beach, they may get swiped, I never take valuables (wallet or cell). I would be more concerned about being shortchanged or overcharged, that is more common.

Had a recent stay here, a lot of disappointment to echo from above. The all-you-can-drink aspect was interesting and unexpected, but I was surprised how rundown this hotel looked. Still a good option to save $ on a longer vacation with a late arrival into Cancun and stay here for one evening. Also good for cheap Marriott nights for requal. I will say they wouldn't let me check in early without a $35 early check-in fee. Full tour below!
